Setting Gimbal Yaw Limits?
0is it possible? I'm tired of my p.1.1.1 wide legs getting into the shot. I'm running with the Walkera 3D gimbal.
Separately, I haven't flown in over a month, and my new Lectron 2700mAh (1st use) bought me 8 minutes of flight before blinking red. Not bad compared to my stock 2400mAh that runs about 6 minutes.

@sportykev, I don't think yaw limit is possible. I know you can set pitch limits, but limiting yaw would minimize the ability of the gimbal to compensate for yaw movements. Heck, I have a Walkera 2D gimbal I'll trade you. That'll limit your yaw. ;-)
Seriously though, wider landing skids will help. There are tons of third-party options out there for the Phantom.
@ruouttaurmind I guess it negates some benefits of the 3D. And I do use wide/taller landing gears. Still gets in the shot! I guess one thing to try is to shift the gimbal forward at least an inch, but that'd make the drone front heavy(ier) !
@sportykev How about retractable gear? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__76262__Retractable_Landing_Gear_Skid_for_DJI_Phantom.html. It'll probably limit your flight time even more...
@fultonmartin I totally thought about this, and also running dual battery. Got to the point where... it's like flying a Honda Civic with a loud exhaust and underbody glow lights, and high spoiler, and a turbo kit. In the end, it's still a p1.1.1. I might as well get a p3 at a minimum!
The retractable legs are a great idea to make my p1 into a poor-man's Inspire :(
@fultonmartin With that said, I still might do it, not the dual battery, but retractable leg kit. Just how far will I go.... :) Thanks for the input!
@fultonmartin do you know where else I could mount the compass?
@sportykev This kit moves it up to the landing gear support, and they note that you need to keep the orientation the same. You want to keep it as far away as possible from other 'noisy' electronics, which is why the CX-20/Nova has it in that pod. Can't tell from the pictures where HK moves it. I think you should spend the $50 and let the rest of us know. :-)
@fultonmartin +1 for @sportykev the guinea pig.
Face it Kev, you're getting off cheap compared to my Solo experiment...
@sportykev How do you like the walkera 3d gimbal. I haven't installed mine yet and haven't flown the P1.1.1 in over 6 months :(. I want to do it soon though. I have the wider legs so i'll benefit from that, but the legs are not as stable as the oem legs.
@sportykev That's why I'm thinking of getting a P3. I like the souped up civic analogy.
@sportykev I have the dual battery setup which I haven't installed yet. I have so many plans but no time.
@fultonmartin @garyhgaryh this is a cool kit! It seems a bit unstable, but no more than my Amazon taller landing gear kit. $50... do I want to spend $50..... ?
It seems like the p3 gear is slightly biased towards the rear, and the field of view is narrower on the camera to not capture the props. Maybe I need to lose the GoPro.
@ruouttaurmind I think I need an upgrade soon. When people ask what drone I have, I'm almost embarrassed to say p1 :(
@fultonmartin it appears this kit is $250, not $50! And it's sold out on the site linked in the descrip. Seems overkill, while also very cool.
@sportykev Huh. Shows as "In stock" / $46.93 when I'm logged in. Lemme try another browser...shows there "In stock" / $50.54: https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewitem.asp?idproduct=76262. Oh, you're talking about the one in the video. Yah, never considered that one, because of the price. Never mind.
@fultonmartin though, I did find what looks to be similar on wish.com
I can guinea pig $24...
wish link, let y'all know in.... a month
@garyhgaryh I don't have a ton of experience with many gimbals, but comparing the Walkera to the Eachine 2-axis, works like a dream. The BGC just never worked right but I can probably attribute some of the issues I had to my configuration abilities. The Walkera just, worked. I didn't have to, but I hooked up the wire for pitch control but aside from that, mostly plug n play.

I'm ordering this one. They even have a solution to keep the compass locked in the right position.
But, it looks like they are using the lever that I use for camera/gimbal pitch, to control the landing gear. I'd need help to stuff in additional lever!
@sportykev The last 'Assembly Instruction' picture there notes that the pitch lever controls the gear at the two extremes, and the gimbal pitch in between.
@fultonmartin I don't get it. isn't the pitch lever = gimbal pitch lever?
@sportykev Yes. Having no personal experience with that landing gear, I don't know how well it works, but that's what the instruction sheet on BG's site says. (Scroll almost all the way to the bottom--the last picture is of the wiring, and notes.)
While it's relatively cheap for this kit, I'm going to hold off for now:
1) I don't know how to control it since I'm using the X1 pot for gimbal pitch control,
2) I don't trust myself. I've been crashing frequently, and without the leg's down to protect my GoPro and gimbal, I see pain.
