A friend posted a picture of some clouds the day after I saw this post. Since I don’t believe in coincidences I’m trying to figure out who’s telling me what…
@yakkoTDI OMG! I know very few people who know PWEI!!! In fact it’s how I wound up with the Englishman. I had something about PWEI in my random profile. He mistook it for EMF and asked me if anyone had ever told me I was unbelievable. I was very confused but we became instant friends. A few years later I went to visit and we wound up becoming a couple during that visit and have been together ever since. Officially 25 years in August.
@yakkoTDI that’s how I found them!!! It was the downward spiral tour. I saw them in New Orleans in May 95. First show sans parental units. Jim Rose circus, Prick, PWEI and NIN. Epic show for so many reasons.
An obscure band, but legitimately one absolute best alternative rock bands in the world for the past 40 years.
Now, I could give you probably at least 10 songs of theirs that I truthfully considered perfect or damn near close to it. Hell, I could give you a B-side of theirs that I consider close to perfect. But I’ll settle for this one:
Oddly, The Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds” - not so much for the music but for being arguably the most well-produced/obsessive-quality sound recorded in the pre-digital era.
Okay, coming in from waaaaay out in the left field of musical theater, a song from the musical A Class Act that is a perfect gem of a song - a snapshot of the dissolution of a marriage (but not angry like “Nobody Side” from Chess)
“Under Separate Cover”
@sillyheathen I actually thought I’d posted that in Pt. 1 but I guess I didn’t, so YESSSS! I’m glad you did. I loooove that. @yakkoTDI and I love Nina Simone.
Also, I’m not going to post the video since it will bog down the thread, but have you seen this beautiful version?
Well, shoot, it’s just going to show up, so here it is.
I have a lot of tracks on endless repeat in my head (mostly Queen) but I really like ditties. Whether it’s orchestral or beeps or show tunes, those tend to be my earwigs more than lyrics.
Etta James - At Last
@Kyeh
This one is perfect.
(Not almost perfect. The real deal)
@f00l
@f00l @Kyeh YAS! I love me some Etta!

@Lynnerizer That’s SO COOL! Amazing!
@Kyeh
Yeah I thought so too! And of course I shared the video pic/link with my friend that posted the clouds!
Allman Brothers - High Falls
Pop Will Eat Itself - Inject Me

@sillyheathen I am a huge fan of PWEI. I even got to see them in Orlando when they opened for Nine Inch Nails many, many moons ago.
And because Total Recall is in your brain here is a Doug Quaid reference.

I’ll give everyone an obscure band.

PS There was a part 1?
@haydesigner Kind of reminds me of Leonard Cohen
Don’t get me wrong, @macromeh, they’re a full on rock band (they actually even started more punk, back in 1983], and they still kick.
Here’s another song from the same album:
/youtube New Model Army Flying Through the Smoke
@haydesigner thank you so much for introducing me to this awesomeness!! My humble offering is anything Joe Henry. https://www.joehenrylovesyoumadly.com/watch
Happy to help, @zebazga @macromeh… I’ll give you one more, the one that most people seem to refer to as the one that made them fans:
/youtube New Model Army Vagabonds
(PS The album this is from, Thunder and Consolation, is phenomenally great… every single song is easily a 4- or 5-star song!!)

Since letting the topic get long stresses out the cell devices.

“Under Separate Cover”
And the nerdiest greatest breakup song, DoubleClicks with Jonathan Coulton, “The Big Bang”
Not obscure but one of my all time favorite songs and vocalists.
@sillyheathen I love that Verve Records included so many of her songs for their Verve Remixed series.
@sillyheathen I actually thought I’d posted that in Pt. 1 but I guess I didn’t, so YESSSS! I’m glad you did. I loooove that.

@pakopako Love that game!
Dang I have to stop playing stuff on repeat so often. I forget they’re on 11.
@pakopako Red Flags is such a great song and I have seen the movie.
Not as well known or appreciated as I think they should be so Firewater.
Not dissimilar squirrel nut zippers and cafe noir.
@zebazga Not sure how much I like this is because they are good or that I love the Peter Gunn theme song.
Worse problems to have.
Something that’s just sweet & romantic that makes me feel all kinds of ways -
