¡Sea Monkey Miracle!
23This time, my laziness saved lives. See, after checking the sea monkeys and not seeing any signs of life I was pretty bummed (plus we got a little busy) so I decided to wait on emptying the monkey tank. I took a look today expecting to see gross water but what I saw was:
There's probably about 10-20 of those little critters happily swimming around in there.

I've never seen a Sea Monkey in real life. They look weird as hell.
They're like super tiny facehuggers:

@JonT Scariest vagina I've ever seen.
@irtravis come hang out with me in Waco... i can take you places
Great Job! They Live! Now, when they grow to an appropriate size set them loose in the Men's bathroom.

@mfladd how big to they get?
@katylava For @Denboy I would like to say shrimp size...

But for reality sake what you see is what you get - a little bigger.
Here is an FAQ if problems arise:

@mfladd
Damn, now I can't hold this against you.
Oh no, this makes several jokes in Irk's Breakfast Quest now make no sense... actually, that would bring them in line with the rest of the jokes in Irk's Breakfast Quest. Carry on!
@Starblind - No, just makes these particular jokes more esoteric. Everyone here gets it. Carry on!
There's no greater joy than the joy of birth, @hollboll. Congrats to you and yours.
@editorkid Okay. That comment made my day! ROTFLOLPIMP!!!
@hollboll rememermove your head to the tank not the tank to your head!
@chellemonkey rememer'd!
@hollboll hahaha woops. It's funnier this way though
P.S.
SEA MONKEY PERISCOPE PLZKTHXBAI
@editorkid I have a feeling it would pretty much be exactly the same as the YouTube clip up there.
That's the big secret about Sea Monkeys…they don't really do anything.
What he means is they have to have time to grow, before training them. They are just wee pups at that moment.
@JonT
Hope you have sea monkey food... What do they eat?
@Kidsandliz Purina sea monkey chow
@sammydog01 LOL
@Kidsandliz I do! About half a packet left.
They do, he doesn't. R.I.P.
Ironically, I had much the same adventure today - but am in a bit of a quandary as to how to handle the inadvertent results. Suffice to say, I am one of the worlds quantum softies - I am "that person" who rescues the lizards & frogs & daddy-longlegs & such, transporting them safely back outside. Laughable, I know - but it is what it is. Long story short ...... too late ...... but we have had a LOT of rain here lately, and I hadn't been out to the garden all week to empty out anything that had filled up. Much to my surprise this morning, I found a plastic container with what looks to be about ( honestly, no shit ) 1,000 tiny little baby tadpoles merrily swimming around in it. Now, I ask you - what the heck do I do with them? Do I dump them out to dry up & die - or leave them be and end up with the neighborhood bumper crop of some unknown type of frog in my garden. Thoughts, anyone?
@scfd0766 I am the same way. I save everything. My wife says come get it or I am going to kill it. I always save it and let it loose. You know in your heart you can not let them become Tadpole Jerky.
@mfladd - Currently they are about the size of a BB, and so yes, very cute. They haven't yet reached that awkward teenage stage, where they still have a tail, but have also sprouted legs. However, I bow to your most excellent synopsis of my personality - I really don't think I can dump all the little squirmers out in the grass to die. Good thing I live on 3 acres, huh? At least the birds will probably be really happy with me in a couple of weeks - and they are eating any mosquito larvae that happen to get deposited in the same container.
@scfd0766 - If you're worried about having 1000 frogs in your yard, can you take the tadpoles to a lake or river?
@scfd0766 ahhh the tadpole convention is in your back yard this year. Congrats. Wait until all those frogs start croaking. Hope you don't sleep with the windows open.
@KDemo @scfd0766 but they might not be lake or river frogs maybe they a tree frog tadpoles or maybe even toads. They live in gardens but have to grow up in puddles of water or whatever is handy.
I look forward to seeing what they grow into. Pictures please !!
@scfd0766 I'm the saver of creatures, much to my husband's dismay. He's become accustomed, though. Do you have anything larger to put them in and perhaps more of the same water? Once they start getting tails, and those tails start absorbing, add some rocks from around the garden. If you've any areas that stay damp, or that always have puddles, put them in shorter - sided containers there.
Or, heck, just leave them there and let nature do her thing!
@scfd0766 I had the same problem in a kiddie pool. We used a bucket to catch as many as possible, and took a road trip to a nearby pond. I could not be a mass murderer.
@scfd0766 My whole family is the same way. We would definitely save the tadpoles. You know you can buy a mosquito dunk tablet to add to the water. Kills mosquitoes buy not tadpoles and the like. It's organic and all that shit, so it's safe for everybody but the skeeters.
@scfd0766 those aren't tadpoles... they're mosquito fry. dump that shit sucka
Most of the little buggers are swimming around at the bottom, but some of the more adventurous ones are up and about this morning. Oh, and - in the moving of this bucket to try and get a better picture - yeah, I found yet another bucket even more full of them underneath the grill. Yup; it's definitely gonna be a froggie filled summer down here on our property!
@scfd0766 Please provide future pics of their progress. A vid might be nice too :) I think you should start a thread of this!
@scfd0766 I freakin' love tadpoles. Thanks for sharing!
@scfd0766 Oh man, gotta to love those little guys! Earlier this year we had tiny toads up the wazoo. And I mean tiny. I'm stumped as to where they all came from. Had a wet spring and actually had 2 waves of tiny frogs and toads. Should have seen me tip toeing around to avoid stepping on any.
@scfd0766 I had a gray tree frog lay eggs in my turtle's baby pool this summer. I raised them in a 10 gallon aquarium. It was a mess and I let all but around 40 go in the creek in my backyard. Most of those made it to baby frogs. I'll post a photo when I get back to civilization. I fed them frozen leaf lettuce, and they seemed to like that.
In addition to @denboy, tadpoles and frogs also like sea monkeys :)
@scfd0766 Find a nearby French restaurant and sell them on the potential future frogs legs...
@duodec I dunno... is that bucket organic?
@thismyusername Meaning they're a yummy snack? Yay, more protein drinks.
@sammydog01

lots of tadpoles
big tadpole with tiny feet
baby frogs
I was flipping through my "Stuff You Missed in History Class" podcast and found one on "The Dark Legacy of Sea Monkeys". Hmmm...
