@Targaryen Not sure about Venom. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s so all the previous superheroes are familiar to me. I’ve never heard of Venom so I don’t know what to expect. Cannot remember reading any comics about him growing up. Maybe I missed a couple issues. I sure wish I still had my old comics today as they could be worth a fortune.
Finished watching Spider-man Homecoming last night and thought it was Meh. Don’t like many things: A different actor playing Spiderman. Marisa Tormei seemed too young to play Aunt May. Peter calls her “May” instead of “Aunt May” in the movie and that’s disturbing. His new suit has a lot of technology in it and the comic books and previous movies doesn’t support that (as far as I can remember anyway). It seemed like he couldn’t spray his webbing without a special device which is different than any other version where he could do it without any technical assistance. Very strange and I didn’t like that.
@cengland0 it depends on the universe, but some of the alternates did use technology in the suit. I wish they were a bit more clear on what part of his powers are his and what part is his suit’s so maybe we’ll get a prequel. A new actor playing Spiderman isn’t all bad imo, but Tobey “Tugboat” Maguire seems to have lost his shit.
Definitely agree with the weird casting for Aunt May; they’re definitely aware of it and there doesn’t seem to be a single supporting reason for it.
@DarkestLite I was thinking the same. One nice thing is that even though it only has a remote, once you get it set up how you want most of what you would do (i.e. volume control) would be through your computer anyway… gonna have to sit on this for a while and think about it. Currently I generally use a pair of decent headphones when I need to hear anything, but then, I don’t stream much on my computer so I don’t have to wear them for extended periods (like now for instance!).
@craigthom maybe so, but the variety of little Tang Band subs have very good reputations among builders. You don’t expect a Ranger to do F550 work but they’re both definitely trucks.
@mehshark I’d go for 3.0 unless your .1 is actually a subwoofer. Center channel makes a big difference. But I’d use speakers with real woofers for the left and right.
I bought the last tv sound base meh offered----put it under my laptop, it’s wonderful. (It just died two weeks ago, which is quite co-incidental). Anyway…Buy this! You’ll love me for it
I scoured the interwebs for several long and grueling seconds (or roughly the equivalent of two of Liz Taylor’s marriages) and found that while most liked this sound base the most common complaint was that this sub is heavy on the bass all the time, drowning out everything else and also that there is no volume control for the subwoofer. I’m thinking, no, even at this low price.
@thismyusername got a couple of the Maxells and loved them, but I’ve transitioned away from having TVs sit on things. The one I gave my mom is going strong.
And I hated episode 7 before it was cool to hate episode 7. You finished that episode and thought, “hey, I could write TV shows” . .kinda how I feel after every episode of Two Broke Girls.
Hey guys, I’m confused, maybe someone can help me out. The description says it’s “This is both a soundbar and subwoofer in 1,” which implies I am buying a single piece of hardware, but then the specs list separate dimensions and weight so for the sound bar and subwoofer. So… Which is it, one of two things that I’m buying?
@craigthom That’s kind of what I’m figuring, I just want to know the actual dimensions so I know whether it’s going on my night stand, or if I need start coming up with arguments to convince my wife it’ll be okay in the kitchen… @thumperchick, any insight? Neither spec matches what’s shown on Amazon
@smigit2002 I’ll just reply to myself! Alright, the link to the Amazon page calls it model “FWSA205E.” Googling THAT takes you to this Sanyo page, which lists the same confusing specs. Amusingly, it lists both weights, AND a weight with packaging, which is less than both weights combined.
Anyways, digging even deeper on that page, under downloads, I found the manual, which lists the following:
• Dimensions (WxHxD): 600 x 100 x 360 mm
• Weight: 5.6 kg
For those interested in Freedom units, that comes out to:
• Dimensions (WxHxD): 23.62 x 3.93 x 14.17 inches
• Weight: 12.34 lb
So it looks like the “Soundbar Dimensions” and weight listed above are correct, and the subwoofer information is… irrelevant?
This has been 2am detective work with Pat, hope y’all have a great “Cyber Monday,” I’m sure there are deals to be had, but are they really “deals” and can they be “had?”
I’m pretty sure I’m fixing to buy it, but I’ve said that before &,they sold out while my ass was here talking about it. It’ll probably be nice because I have nothing to compare it to. My left TV speaker has been out for some time, so just so happens, I’ve been looking for a sound bar, hoping it would get rid of that problem. I was just looking at a Bose brand that cost $119.99, so I’ll buy this & save $84.99.Thanks!! If it ain’t no good, Thank You, anyway because $35 is nothing, but it IS over 3 x(s) less than I was about to spend, so Thanks 3x(s)!!
I’d buy this, but I always get my meh stuff “transhipped” by hand 'cause I’m in Canada and with this weight and size, my shipper (who is my daughter when she visits) would kill me.
I bought one of these new last summer at Wally World for $25 new (actually bought 2 of them). I also had the Maxell one Meh sold a while ago. I prefer this one because it is a flat box without the curves the Maxell one had on the ends, and the Maxell one always sounded like the woofer was bottoming out with a thud on any loud, bass heavy sounds. This is big and fairly heavy. I have one on a tv stand and one on top of a dresser with a 43 inch tv on top of it. It senses the input nicely and sounds ok with bluetooth from my mp3 player. It is quite bass heavy and certainly not audiophile quality, but it gets the job done and has decent volume. The multiple input selection is nice too, via 1/8, bluetooth or optical. This wouldn’t make any sense for a wall mounted tv, but if you have one on a stand that’s big enough this would work. It has a tiny remote.
I wish Sanyo still made microwave ovens. I have one that’s pushing 20 years old and works like a champ. Brought it in to work when I bought a newer, more powerful model from Sharp for home. The new one died within a year, the old Sanyo just keeps going. If it’s any sign of Sanyo quality, I’d expect this sound base to outlive any of us.
@darkzrobe I considered a Panasonic but got a really good deal on a Magic Chef that had outstanding reviews. One reason I hesitated on the Panasonic is the known issue how the Inverter can interfere with your wifi signal. Been super happy with the Magic Chef so far. At least it doesn’t randomly start on it’s own like the pos Sharp. Nothing like having to remember to unplug the microwave every time you use it in fear of it burning down your house.
“For whatever reason, internal TV speakers have always been and will always be crap.”
Not so. For many years, before our televisions went all flat on us, TV manufacturers actually put a decent amount of effort into making them sound good. Back when we actually had room inside a TV cabinet for a proper sound system, many sets sounded as good as a decent stereo, doubtless better than the sound bars being sold today. Most big CRT-based rear projection TVs had large multi-way speaker systems in them with woofers and tweeters. Sony even hung a magnetically shielded subwoofer in its own custom form-fitted twin port cabinet over the back of the picture tube in some of their higher-end HD CRT TVs. Sound quality is the one area in television development where we have backtracked…that, and arguably overall build quality!
Maybe stooped but I’m using it to replace the Maxell unit I bought here awhile ago. Remote stopped working. These reviews sound better.
/giphy rad-unqualified-month
@Stumpy91 got it and the remote has not worked from day one. And of course, you can’t make it do jack diddly squat without the remote, so I got a soundbar that won’t do anything. Not happy.
@jericho60 I’m reading Sanyo is replacing the remotes under warranty. It’s worth the effort to try. My remotes just needed fresh batteries, but others have posted success with getting Sanyo to replace bad remotes.
I have 5.1 surround in the living room and always wanted a sound bar and sub in the bedroom, but it’s one of those things that I never wanted to spend a whole lot on. $35 is low enough to at least try this out. We will see how it goes. Looks kinda meh.
@spacetuna8@katylava I experienced the same issue. I used my multimeter to check the battery, and it read a little under 3.3V, which sounds about right.
I also pointed the remote at my phone’s camera and pressed a button, and saw it pulsing as I would expect, so… I’m not really sure what to think.
Just for giggles, I tossed in a fresh battery and still had the same experience: flashing IR shown by my phone’s camera, but no response from the sound bar.
This leads me to believe that either: the remotes are the wrong model for our sound bars, or the sound bars are simply shit. Do yours show a red power light?
@katylava Mine too. Battery was dead. Also, the audio cable that came with it was not working properly. Luckily, I had another and now it sounds great.
@katylava I bought one of these, and I too have a non-working remote. I’ve tried brand new CR2016, CR2025 (as specified on the remote), and CR2032 batteries in it, none work. Interestingly, it came with a working CR2032 jammed inside.
I found an identical remote on amazon, but according to the reviews, there’s a similar failure rate… Good luck.
@smigit2002
I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE!
Of course I’ve a stash of every other button cell known to man in the house, except CR2025. But just like you my multimeter comes back at 3V.
For those that have not yet called Sanyo customer service…FYI THEY ARE THE WORST
Has anyone figured out if it’s possible to pair this with a universal remote? None of the Sanyo codes I’ve found online have worked with my Inteset remote. The soundbar has no buttons, so if the remote somehow breaks or gets lost, we’re SOL if we can’t get another remote working with it.
@harveydanger i have been able to pair it to my Harmony 350. took a little work because it didn’t have the model number, or so i thought. i had to pair each button. seems to work well. volume is a little weird, but it works. after the fact, i realized that the model number on meh.com reflects that it is refurbished (i assume) and the actual model number FWSA205E did come up on my choices. i like my button choices, so i’m just going to leave it.
I purchased this unit but after hooking it up per the instructions,I couldn’t get the remote to turn it on. I purchased another set of batteries but it still doesn’t turn on.
Now what? How can I get a new remote?
My remote works luckily. I have a Maxell Sound Base I bought from Meh and the remote died on that. That’s on reason I bought this Sanyo. Hopefully this one lasts longer. I’m not too sure about these mini (cheap) remotes.
Remote turns the thing on (after replacing the battery), but now the base is stuck flashing all its lights in sequence, over and over again. Does nothing else. Anyone else experience this?
@KapmK My LEDs sequence from left to right when I increase volume and sequence from right to left when I lower volume. But Ihaven’t seen any rhyme or reason in how the LEDs blink or sequence.
Just got off the phone with tech support. They have no idea what the problem is, and can only offer to refer me to a repair center where I’d almost certainly pay more than I spent on the thing for even a chance at getting it fixed. Looks like the thing is just a writeoff.
I wonder if some users issues might be resolved by resetting the unit back to factory settings being this unit is refurbished. To do this:
On your remote control, press LINE INPUT button.
Press MUSIC, VOL- and NEWS on remote control within 3 seconds to perform factory default settings. » when the factory setting restore is complete, the system shuts down into standby mode and restart.
Bad Remote, trying to get refund or replacement Meh says contact Sanyo, Sanyo says to contact Meh, what a hassle, We purchased it from Meh they should be taking care of this not us.
So far so great! I got it for my Dad’s TV. His setup doesn’t have the width for a normal soundbar, so putting the TV on the sound base is a good compromise.
I bought two of these to go with my two 24" Black Friday Samsung TV’s. Like everybody else, my remotes were DOA. A couple of new CR2025’s and they were up and running.
One of them has a fairly serious ding on a back bottom corner, but it doesn’t appear to affect the operation of the unit.
More concerning is the STRONG SWAMPY SMELL wafting off of the units. Yuck. I’m hoping it dissipates. It just about knocked me over unwrapping these from the plastic. If we get a sunny day I might set these outside to air out.
Anybody have any suggestions on how to get these to stop stinking?
@therealjrn Fortunately, the swampy smell doesn’t hang around. I guess this is one reason manufacturers put little bags of desiccant in things.
I’m enjoying these so much more than those tinny-sounding speakers that are on the TVs. They are a little strong on the bass but I don’t notice that any more.
I might go for a couple more for the other TVs if they were to come up again.
Our unit has an inoperative AUX input. It worked for an hour or so, now won’t take audio from the rca inputs. The toslink (optical) & headphone input still work, but not AUX, which is the input that we need to work.
Worse than that: Meh tells us to seek help with the manufacturer- but the manufacturer won’t answer our emails.
@Dabidoh I’ve been emailing Sanyo at Sanyo@funaisupport.com after filling out this form on their website. They’ve been reasonably responsive, but I must say that I had to resend the “receipt” I had from Meh three times before they would finally actually read it and accept it. They kept saying that “there is No Date of Purchase” shown…
Anyways, now that they’ve accepted the receipt, I’m waiting to hear back about what their repair/replacement plan is. Unfortunately, my remote SEEMS to work (I can see it flashing when I point it at my camera), so I’m betting Sanyo will want me to send the entire unit in, which ain’t going to be cheap.
Best of luck, and yeah, it sucks that we’re getting the run around.
@Dengue@esedragon You need a remote to do anything. Contact meh customer service first and they’ll point you in the right direction. I received a replacement remote that way.
I got two. One of the remotes didn’t work (the good remote worked on both but they will be in different houses, so THAT won’t work. LOL Meh.com told me to contact Sanyo. I did. They needed the serial # of the unit with the bad remote. I sent it.
That was 3 weeks ago. Nothing…
So now I have this great paperweight and Meh.com has one less (prolific) customer.

@jsh139 I was hoping there would not be a Mehrathon.
I’ve been trying to find a good sound setup for my desktop. Would this work out well?
@DarkestLite
/8ball Would this work out well?
Reply hazy try again
@DarkestLite I was thinking the same. One nice thing is that even though it only has a remote, once you get it set up how you want most of what you would do (i.e. volume control) would be through your computer anyway… gonna have to sit on this for a while and think about it. Garbage. Nothing with a 5 1/4" woofer could ever be called a “subwoofer.”
@jgoldshlag A 5.25" midrange shouldn’t be called a woofer.
@jgoldshlag https://www.parts-express.com/tang-band-w5-1138sm-5-1-4-neodymium-subwoofer--264-831
@geaugafletcher He didn’t say people don’t call little drivers “subwoofers”, just that they shouldn’t. And they shouldn’t.
That one lists a frequency range but not a tolerance, so that’s a worthless spec.
@craigthom maybe so, but the variety of little Tang Band subs have very good reputations among builders. You don’t expect a Ranger to do F550 work but they’re both definitely trucks.
Seems like a traditional 2.1 setup would be better, right? $35 is attractive but a decent 2.1 setup isn’t much more expensive.

@smigit2002, I was trying to figure out how the woofer @ 6.5" deep fit in a box that is only 4"

@cinoclav I do what I can!
I bought one of these new last summer at Wally World for $25 new (actually bought 2 of them). I also had the Maxell one Meh sold a while ago. The new one died within a year, the old Sanyo just keeps going. If it’s any sign of Sanyo quality, I’d expect this sound base to outlive any of us.
@cinoclav May I suggest a Panasonic? They are one of the few ones that have “Inverter Technology”
Stupid marketing for a special power supply that actually lets the microwave run at 50% power should you choose instead of cycling on and off.
This is the only microwave I have used to make a hot pocket cook evenly.
Also have had mine for like 10 years.
@darkzrobe I got a Panasonic with the inverter thing, which is nice, but my favorite part is that I finally got a big one. I like the size.
I also like the sensor reheat for pizza.
@cinoclav Microwaves operate in the 2.4Ghz spectrum so they all mess with 2.4Ghz wifi.
@darkzrobe I’m aware of that, but for some reason the Panasonics have a much worse reputation for it.
Am I the only one picturing that television vibrating right off the sound base?
@wickhameh Yeah. Maybe you and @shadow7118
I expected more from Meh on Cyber Monday… but then I expected something from Meh, so I am bound to be disappointed. Oh well… Meh…
been waiting for another sound bar. bought.
How big TV base could this soundbar handle without giving in?
My TV is 55” and I’m worried if it could handle the weight.
It’s a pretty sturdy MDF box just under 13" deep and 23 3/4" wide-the size of the tv base/legs may be more of an issue than the weight.
Off topic, but does anyone know of a good cyber monday sale for micro sd cards (32gb or 64gb)?
@werekong Not exactly what you’re asking for, but Wirecutter called out this deal on the 128GB of their pick for best SD card: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWZWYVP
@dave @werekong It’s a good deal on the 64GB too.

It must be so great that it doesn’t need frequency response listed in the specs.

@smigit2002 yeah i have the red power light. man i’m bummed. i already ordered a new battery.
Although, i didn’t know about the phone camera trick. I don’t see anything when i try that with mine.
@katylava Mine too. Battery was dead. Also, the audio cable that came with it was not working properly. Luckily, I had another and now it sounds great.
@katylava maybe you’re lucky and it’s just a dead battery! Though I can also say it won’t work with ALL cameras, some will have an IR filter.
Hope you get yours working!
@katylava you are lucky. Mine didn’t even come with a remote.
@bridgetannc i didn’t find mine at first because the instructions were wrapped around it
@katylava mine didn’t come with instructions either. Just the base. No cables, no remote, no instructions.
@katylava I had this issue and tried a new battery with no luck. Once I put the original battery back into the remote, it suddenly worked. Go figure.
Update: new battery makes it work, yay!
Related: My dog is totally freaked out by the sound.
@smigit2002
I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE!
Of course I’ve a stash of every other button cell known to man in the house, except CR2025. But just like you my multimeter comes back at 3V.
For those that have not yet called Sanyo customer service…FYI THEY ARE THE WORST
@katylava Just bought a new battery for $6, and it does not do anything. I also tried a universal remote with auto-search code find and nothing.
@harveydanger According to Logitech, their Harmony remote will work with it.
@Marassi1 Set of batteries? There is one, right?
@KapmK I’ve reached out to Meh, we’ll see what their response is
My unit came with a Quick Start Guide. Here’s a link to the Owners Manual.
@Stumpy91 That was super helpful! Thanks buddy!
I wonder if some users issues might be resolved by resetting the unit back to factory settings being this unit is refurbished. To do this:
My remote doesn’t work either. Factory reset didn’t help, I’ll try a new battery tomorrow, argh.
welp I bought a new battery and it still doesn’t work…guess we were just sold broken crap.
@PoopasaurusRex Yeah, my remote works MOST of the time, but not ALL of the time.
@PoopasaurusRex Sanyo should replace that remote under warranty.
Bad Remote, trying to get refund or replacement Meh says contact Sanyo, Sanyo says to contact Meh, what a hassle, We purchased it from Meh they should be taking care of this not us.
@jfak I contacted Sanyo, emailed them a PDF of my Meh receipt, and they are sending me out a new remote, that is covered under warranty.
@jfak Our last response to you was on 12/13 - if you haven’t seen that, please check your spam folder.
@Thumperchick Received the new remote from Sanyo and the unit is now working!
@ioBuddha woo-hoo!!
WTF Meh?
@smigit2002 Agreed: it’s a runaround where the buck should stop at Meh.
Meh: if you read these posts, plz DO something! You’re going to lose my wife & I as customers.
I never got a remote
@esedragon And? Are you going to call Sanyo?
@esedragon Me neither. Was it supposed to come with one? I just plugged mine in (optical cable) and it doesn’t seem to be doing anything…
@Dengue @esedragon You need a remote to do anything. Contact meh customer service first and they’ll point you in the right direction. I received a replacement remote that way.
@esedragon @Stumpy91 I got the ball rolling with Sanyo. Thanks for the info!
I got two. One of the remotes didn’t work (the good remote worked on both but they will be in different houses, so THAT won’t work. LOL
Meh.com told me to contact Sanyo. I did. They needed the serial # of the unit with the bad remote. I sent it.
That was 3 weeks ago. Nothing…
So now I have this great paperweight and Meh.com has one less (prolific) customer.
@Edword These are covered by Sanyo under their warranty. Meh was right to send you to them.
Neither one of my remotes worked until I replaced the batteries. It was much more expedient for me to try new batteries than wrangle with Sanyo.
Have you tried a fresh battery in your remote?
I just gave away one of my pair of these today, July 19 2023. It was still doing great.
