This is a 2012 Chromebook, and not really a great one a that. Needs to be impulse-buy price for this to be worth it. $50-70 or so. A $100 C720 would run circles around this.
I bought one of these new when it came out. A year later and the track pad wouldn’t depress (no easy clicking) and the hinge broke through the bottom of the screen (I had to use epoxy to get it to open and close properly).
While I had one and enjoyed using it (took it with me to overseas trip, which it handled like a champ, if a bit sluggishly), $100 for a Chromebook from 2012… I don’t know.
We have Chromebooks, all refurbs: 1 larger HP, 1 smaller Hisense a 2 Samsungs. 1 Samsung lid hinge broke after a year and 1 power supply failed. The other brands are fine.
@fury you are right about shot 3 losing the ports. Good catch. Whadaboudit, Meh?
Question for anyone: what’s the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports, and specifically for “my flip phone is fine” people like me, can I harm something by plugging in something that needs a 2.0 into the 3.0 port or vice versa?
@fury Look closer at 1, including the side view. The rear of the case curves out, with the ports being on the lower half of the curve and their indicators being on the upper half of the curve. Picture 3 is a straight down view. The port indicators are visible, but the ports are where the panel curves under, out of sight.
@mollama USB is backwards compatible, but the speed is limited by the oldest version involved. If your hard drive is 2.0 and the port is 3.0 you get 2.0 speed.
@rpstrong USB 3.0 devices (thumb drives, etc.) work fastest in the 3.0 port. 2.0 devices will not and 3,0 devices plugged into the 2,0 port will work at 2.0 speed.
Potential buyers keep in mind that the Chrome OS is not compatible with Windows or Mac software or even apps and games from Google’s own Play Store. Instead, users are largely limited to the Google Chrome Web Store, which can be either hit or miss in terms of content and options. And you need internet to use it, there is no such thing currently as working offline with a chromebook.
@dtwsportsfan That’s not true, chromebooks do support working offline with Google docs and friends, if you install the supporting extension. (That might just happen by default by now.) You can also watch videos from the SSD with no internet connection.
These are some of the worst quality CBs on the market. They are flimsy and break easily. The hinge design is poor and it stinks to have to stick your peripherals in the hinge, where they get knocked out easily just from moving the device around. I do not even know that these are worth $94, and I’ve had a lot of personal experience with them. Hundreds of them. This exact model. They do not hold up to normal wear and tear for longer than 2 year, and will most likely give you less than that. #justsayin
It’s almost 5 years old and the only thing they re-furbish is the skin and stickers on the front, just like the Re-furbished pinto I have for sale on scamlist. nice new brown paint job with a shinny new pinto wording, that burned of in a small fire.
Their not even offering to give any free cloud based storage, like other are doing, (100GB) heck not even a cd/dvd drive to watch a movie, you would think if there offering up items from half a decade ago, it should be able to play disc from that era of tech.
I think we were trying to tell you folks at Meh that we’d be interested in that Toshiba CB if it were under $100. Not this piece of shit Samsung CB for under $100.
My kids leapfrog epic has just as much memory, it’s also wi-fi connected, (but not required to play games) and comes with a 1 year warranty. and you can get it at Walmart for $59.50 Re-furbished of course or $99.00 new.
When I picked up this Chromebook new four years ago, it was super quick and worked wonderfully for the tasks I needed. Well four years later, the tasks haven’t changed much, but it’s SO MUCH SLOWER.
If I took a shit, flattened it out and installed the chrome OS on it, it would be an improvement over today’s Chromebook. If anyone is interested, I’m taking orders. Texture is extra, let me know and I’ll add peanuts or corn to my diet. And just an FYI, I eat plenty of fucking gluten, so my piece of shit will be much sturdier than today’s Samsung piece of shit. I love me some gluten bitches.
There are still plenty of thinkpads on ebay for prices less than or equal to this chromebook, and those thinkpads will run circles around this nonsense computer.
“Deal paused until 8 a.m.” been seeing this a lot lately. There are people in the world who leave for work before 8 a.m. and can’t shop meh.com at work. Just gonna throw that out there. I’ve missed several deals because of this. I say, let the “morning crowd” get out of bed if they want a good deal.
@danieleidson consider yourself fortunate you missed this “deal”. If it wouldn’t have been paused you might have actually purchased this piece of shit. You should be thankful that Meh’s policy dicked you over before you made a stupid purchase. This is good fucking karma, take it and run with it- stop bitching because you won!
I don’t think, imo this is a good deal, it was ok-good when it was new in 2012 but now it’s like really meh, like reverse the price and it’ll be ok for 49 dollars meh, you can get these used off of ebay for around that price.
For a minute, I thought this was April Fools day. The display, the storage, the ram, the CPU… I don’t think you can get worse specs than this on Chromebook. You can do much better, and for around the same price, on any day of the week. Terrible offering from Meh.
Got this for my Mom back in 2012. It was slow and crappy then. Now it’s even slower and crappiierer. Cheap plastic shell that creeeeeks.
If you’re getting this, make sure it’s for a kid or 60+ year old parent. Or a 60+ year old person you wish was your parent and you want to buy them a gift they would be infuriated with.
This is a 2012 model that translates to something like 80 dog years old. Dog years you say? Yes, because when it came out it was a dog and even more so now 4 years later!
This is the Chromebook model I bought in 2012! It’s still usable, but needs more RAM and must be pretty slow compared to the new ones. That said, it’s well made and durable, and all anyone needs who just surfs the net.
I have this one. I love it. It was my first meh purchase.
The battery life is phenomenal, I can sit outside under a tree and internet all day.
If I wasn’t going to be at work at 1pm pacific time today, I’d get another.
Just picked up a new Dell Inspirion 3000 11 inch for $ 99 (reg $ 199) on their pre- black friday sale. 2 gigs of ram 64 bit 36 SSD. Much better deal than this. Went on sale at 11:00 AM. Was sold out in less than 2 minutes. Got all my training in buying something quick from my Fuko purchases.
Close, but no cigar. I’m looking for a touchscreen laptop that I can upgrade or has at least 64 GB memory and 4 GB Ram. Not digging this “has to be online” mentality for chromebooks and inability to use a DVD drive.
Have you looked up how fast the processor is? It’s a tripod dog with a crippled leg and one blind eye! lol
Seriously, people actually use this slow of crap…meh!
I bought one of these at full price. Leaned on it while it was closed – and bent it enough to crack the glass from the screen through the flimsy plastic case.
I remember the repair was expensive – on the order of $200 or so – because they had to replace the whole top half of the Chromebook.
There were also various things that wouldn’t run on it because it was an ARM Chromebook instead of an Intel one.
It’s not exactly an amazing laptop, but if you’re on a tight budget, it’s possible to make it work. Meh, indeed.
Bought one New for $209 from Newegg in 2014 ; It’s a mediocre machine, pretty slow, but my wife stopped using her other laptop in favor of it.
It’s cheap plastic, has a cheap, weak screen, weak keyboard and touchpad, and the SD card (if used) sticks out quite a bit. That said, it’s lightweight, and the battery life is incredible.
I was considering putting a lightweight flavor of Linux on it (16GB is more than reasonable), but never had the energy to polish that turd (too many other turds that need polishing first).
$94 is just too much. If it was $75, I might have bought one or two more and put Linux on all of them (including my Wife’s)
Got this for my mom for Christmas. Doubt my mom will complain about the specs. Psyched that I got in on one of the hold-over things today in the afternoon.
Yeah, the device that put Chromebooks on the map! I still have mine, it’s now the living room internet device for the teenagers who come over for tutoring.
This CB is terrible. Very upset with myself for this purchase. Never had buyer’s remorse from anything on Meh; I can now cross that off my bucket list. Very underwhelmed.
Agree 100% with the comment from Brknes above. Most money I’ve ever spent on Meh and the only time I’ve ever been disappointed. I only bought this thing to stream to my Chromecast so I didn’t have to use up my PC monitor or kill my phone battery, but it struggles to stream anything so much that it’s not worth the trouble. I just ended up going back to my pc.
Got this for my dad. Embarrassed to give it to him, the thing looks like it’s been used heavily, scratches all over the outside. Came in a bubble wrap in shipping box with power cord. Nothing else. I could have gotten a used laptop from work in better condition for less $$. Agree with above, first time buyers remorse on Meh!

Meh computer –
Haha, these are the same ultra-crap Chromebooks my high school had. Meh.
@mdszy They’re probably the same ones.
mehbe at $50

“Part of Samsung’s popular “Does Not Explode” line”
Well, that kills the deal for me…
Wish you would sell a tablet this size with a detachable keyboard
You just said a Exynos Chromebook was fast???
The Toshiba Chromebook 2 runs laps around this thing (and is no barn burner itself.)
@madmaxmedia Yeah, the real reason the Exynos Chromebook was great is the 7 hour battery life and silent, cool operation.
I am tearing up the house looking for $94. I love me a Chromebook, I am one right now and it does everything I need.
@conandlibrarian I knew you were a robot.
@thismyusername does not compute.
/giphy not a robot
@conandlibrarian Clearly it fails in the area of grammar.
@dtwsportsfan Yous dont like the way me talks?
@conandlibrarian Don’t! These things break just from looking at them. I’ve dealt with hundreds of them. #justsayNO
@conandlibrarian some day I want to talk pretty too.
If this was new for that price, I would say good deal, but I have that Toshiba you sold months ago so no thanks.

Does it do Windows 95 though?
“Part of Samsung’s popular “Does Not Explode” line”
So basically, it’s useless as an IED? Thanks, but no thanks!
@gsrivast think positive- the best thing about Samsung batteries catching fire is that finally people get a backlit keyboard, and it’s even heated now
While I had one and enjoyed using it (took it with me to overseas trip, which it handled like a champ, if a bit sluggishly), $100 for a Chromebook from 2012… I don’t know.
By the way, (tentatively) Google will stop supporting it in October of 2017, it seems: https://support.google.com/chrome/a/answer/6220366?hl=en
We have Chromebooks, all refurbs: 1 larger HP, 1 smaller Hisense a 2 Samsungs. 1 Samsung lid hinge broke after a year and 1 power supply failed. The other brands are fine.
Pictures 1, 3 and 5 seem to be telling different stories about the ports on this thing.
@fury you are right about shot 3 losing the ports. Good catch. Whadaboudit, Meh?

@mollama You won’t notice any difference. You just won’t get the faster USB 3.0 speeds unless everything matches.
@fury Look closer at 1, including the side view. The rear of the case curves out, with the ports being on the lower half of the curve and their indicators being on the upper half of the curve. Picture 3 is a straight down view. The port indicators are visible, but the ports are where the panel curves under, out of sight.

How about a knife? I lost my cool Asset knife, and my Funxion knife is too bulky. Any more Assets in the warehouse?
How about something less than $100 and not built by thieves?
@grmeyer explain

Unless google changes their policy, these will reach “end of life” in less than a year. That will mean no more updates for chrome, so you may need to switch to linux, which might be painfully slow on this hardware.
http://ausdroid.net/2014/05/17/google-updates-chromebook-end-life-dates-asus-chromeboxes-now-added/
I’d be all over it if it cost less than $77
I can’t believe people are buying this crap.
@Froggy They did, they have. Humanity is way more fucked up thank you give them credit for.

@etheridge shame because this CB is awful
@wyk3d I JUST CANCELLED MY FIRST MEH PURCHASE. WHAT DO I WIN
@etheridge You won your $99 dollars back, now go get a cheap hooker and put that money to good use.

It’s refurbished for a reason, folks. No one wants it.
Nope. But if those laser badminton racquets ever come up for sale again, I’m in for three.
I’d buy it if it was less than $50. I would then give it away.
