Remember David the "bubble boy" that died years ago in Houston, grandson is being treated with infusion therapy developed by boys death
20I would appreciate all prayers and best wishes for our two year old grandson. In the scheme of things, nothing else compares to having one’s health and wanting the best out of life for our children and grandchildren. Our youngest grandson, A.P., has a immune disease so he catches whatever anyone else might have whenever he is around other people (anyone recall David the “bubble boy” that died in Houston, Tx. Years ago)? This is immune disease is dangerous and a potentially lethal situation. A.P. has literally been to the Drs office (or e.r.’ s) every week since March of last year. The doctors were all puzzled why he looked so healthy yet, was sick week after week after week. Further medical testing though finally discovered that A.P. has an immune deficiency disorder.
There is a treatment for A.P.'s immune deficiency now and it was developed because of a boy, David Vetter, known commonly as David the “bubble boy”. (David Phillip Vetter (September 21, 1971 – February 22, 1984)[1] was a prominent sufferer of severe combined immunodeficiency (SCID), a hereditary disease which dramatically weakens the immune system. Individuals born with SCID are abnormally susceptible to infections, and exposure to typically innocuous pathogens can be fatal. Vetter was referred to as “David, the bubble boy” by the media. Vetter’s surname was not revealed to the general public until 10 years after his death in order to preserve his family’s privacy.)
Anyways, A.P. doesn’t have the exact same immune deficiency as David Vetter did but has a very similar one. Our daughter discovered there was an organization for parents of children with this same immune disorder A.P. has. While talking with a spokesperson at this organization, our daughter discovered after David Vetter died, his mother Carol Ann Vetter wanted other children born with an immune disease to have a chance to live a normal life. Thus, she allowed researchers to take some of her son David’s blood and researchers then developed an infusion treatment consisting of over 10,000 different people’s blood plasma, with antigens added into the plasma, to treat children like our grandson A.P. is now getting in his infusion therapy. This infusion (developed after David Vetter’s death) is given to A.P. at a Children’s hospital once a month ![enter image description here][1].
We are so grateful to this Vetter family we have never met. Through their tragedy after losing their sons life, a treatment was developed that gives our grandson a chance to , hopefully, now to live a normal life.

Anyways, as you can imagine, this infusion treatment is extremely expensive but more importantly, emotionally it’s hard on his parents as well as all of us to watch A.P. go through all of this. I am only asking for your prayers that this infusion therapy treatment will be a total success…the number the dr. looks for in his blood test did came up this month so we are hopeful that his body will one day start making the necessary antigens to go fight off infections like a normal person’s blood can. However, the dr. has told our daughter that their son A.P. might have to get these infusions for the rest of his life, if he doesn’t start making the antigens to fight off illnesses and pathogens that he will be exposed to.
We are believing and asking for a miracle for this sweet child and I ask those of you so inclined to do so to please pray for our little grandson too. Thanks to all of you who read this thread about our grandson A.P. , regarding his current medical fight to hopefully, one day live a normal life.

I hope and pray for the best for your grandson. I went to elementary school at Sally K Ride elementary in The Woodlands which is right around the corner from David Elementary; I remember hearing the stories about him but never knew about his parents continuing to search for a cure. I’m grateful that they were able to provide hope for other families, and I’ll pray that your grandson will respond to the treatment
@Moose thank you for your prayers and concerns , we appreciate them a lot!! I remember watching the made for t.v. Movie about this young child named David , never dreaming that one day his death would have an impact on our grandsons life!
We are so grateful to this family for caring about others that would face a similar oath with their children,
it’s so sad A.P. as to go through this… such a cutie your grandson is! i really hope this infusion therapy works.
your grandson is in my prayers!! i wish you and your family much strength.
@mick thank you … we appreciate your thoughts and prayers for our grandson.
@Moose actually it wasn’t the made for TV movie I had watched on t.v. but rather news reports about David, the bubble boy. I never saw the movie called Bubble boy, as it wasn’t a true to life story about the actual boy named David. Thanks again for your post of prayers and encouragement.
I’ll pray for A.P.'s successful therapy. I know you never wanted to have to learn all about the condition, but you’re doing it. We can hope that there are treatments and discoveries being researched which can cure the entire range of autoimmune disorders. The TV show ‘Pure Genius’, which had its first (and only) season last year had as one of its premises a clinic where all sorts of incurable diseases were treated, usually successfully. Escapism, but worth watching, if you haven’t seen it.
@OldCatLady no I didn’t see the show-- thanks for telling me about it and caring about and praying for AP. He really is such a great little boy and is usually so happy despite being sick and running fever most of the time.
I hope things go well… Too bad a bone marrow transplant won’t solve this. I hope it is just rotten chance rather than genetic so your daughter and her husband don’t worry about having more kids.
@Kidsandliz they also have a four year old son too so they dont plan on having more children --their oldest child is well and has no immune problems at all – they just are trying to get their youngest son well enough to play with other children ( besides his brother) and live a somewhat normal life.Of course, AP will get sick just being around his brother who has been around other children but didnt himself get sick.
i wish the best for your grandson and your entire family. hope whatever they are doing “takes”.
@f00l thanks! Please also pray for my elderly father who is almost 88 and has pneumonia. My mom cannot care for herself so dad refused to go into the hospital as there would be no one to care for her. I couldn’t help them as I have been helping son’s family out ( they have young children ) while he was working for his job out of town. We were going to celebrate sons birthday tonight, but he was so sick that he went to the dr tonight and discovered that he has the flu. I was suppose to watch AP and his brother this Thursday (while there mother had a medical procedure done ) but can’t now since I’ve been exposed to the flu and it could be deadly to AP if I come down with it!!When it rains it pours is the truth…
IT WAS THE MOOPS!!!
