@ceagee was a friend of mine (I’m going to use the @ in case she is listening). I met her at Deals.Woot. She drew my attention for her wit, her sense of humor, and her love of music. She really didn’t like me too much at first. She thought I was one of those smart ass Millennials. Well, she was half right. I was smart assed.
It wasn’t until Meh started that we really got to know each other. We started exchanging emails right after Irk answered her question at Ask Irk.
I think this was one of the bestest of the Ask Irk videos, @matthew. Irk really butchered her name, but after this, this is the way she pronounced her name, too.
@Ceagee was an insomniac. She never seemed to sleep. We would email late at night and talk about everything and nothing. I’ve missed this so much.
She also had a great love for all animals. Do you guys remember when she rescued the ferret? And I don’t know how many kitty cats she helped to give homes to.
Sorry if what I am saying is all messed up, but I just found out that she is gone and I am so sad.
@Barney My heart aches for your loss, and for everyone’s. I wonder if anyone has posted this over on Woot. There are some over there who never wandered over here (it took me an awfully long time, and the death of Deals dot Woot).
Well, that was a stab in the heart. She had a good heart, and she seemed very kind. Are there any details that could be made public? This just really hurts.
Despite the fact that I don’t know any of you personally, I still think of y’all as things close to friends. (I don’t keep friends due to the emotional and mental toll involved, but this is right near there).
Still, hearing about something like this (whether I actually interact with any of you directly) is still painful.
I’m sorry to hear this. When some of our active members don’t post for a while, we usually just assume they’re taking a break because of “real life”. It’s painful to find out that they aren’t coming back. I’ll be thinking of her family and those who knew her well.
I had her for the Meh Exchange last April/May. Sent her a big box of goodies, but I don’t know if she ever opened it as I don’t recall seeing a report from her.
I can’t sleep, so I thought I would share a couple of my last emails with @ceagee.
Hi. Thanks for checking on me-- Gave me much cheer. I have unfortunately been very sick. They still are trying to figure out. Today is MRI. Day. I have had quite a few tests and I see more in my future. Finally see specialist Monday. I wish I could distract myself by hanging at meh. But too hard for that right now.
I hope things are well with you and yours and purple and meh. .
If you have any extra prayers and thoughts or good wishes please send my way. Can never have too many eh?
Hey, you–
So I’ve been in a quandary – I didn’t want to email you and bother you if you are not feeling well, but I’ve also been wondering if the specialist has been able to tell you anything. So if you are feeling like emailing, drop me a line. I really hope you are doing better.
You were mentioned today in the new fantasy football thread. Yep, people miss you.
They started running tests toward the end of July. She was gone in early October.
She was such a good person and she dearly loved Meh and the people here.
@Barney It sounds like it was relatively quick, at least. It sounds callous, but I’d rather go quickly than slowly over many years - speaking as someone who helped take care of my grandma who had alzheimer’s for a decade or so.
There have been a few requests for more information. I am not comfortable posting it but if you send me an email at sammydog001 at gmail and I recognize you as a friend of ceagee’s and not a troll I will send you a link. The family requested donations to her animal volunteer charity and the address is in the obituary.
It is crazy to think about the imprint one leaves on the lives of others in an internet community. Such a small, regular activity of just checking in and saying hi can turn into life long friendships. While I didn’t have too many in depth conversations with @ceagee, from what I did know, she was a stand up person, and will be greatly missed. RIP
Sad wow… I can’t begin to imagine how many times I’ve repeated her name in Irk’s voice in my head. So many sorry’s to those that knew her, those that were fortunate enough to correspond with her and to the rest of our gang here who have been touched by her time with us on meh.
Thanks so much for that, @snapster. I wonder if her family will be notified? They would likely be gratified to know how many admired her here and on Woot.
I am so very sorry to hear this news. @ceagee was one of my first friends over on Deals. Woot. I hadn’t kept up with her much lately, but she would pop in over there on the forums from time to time and always wave hello.
I lost a dear friend to cancer this week. Cancer sucks. I don’t understand why sweet, gentle souls are taken out of this world while pieces of crap who take, take, take are left behind.
Many tears to follow tonight.
Rest in Peace my friend @ceagee.
I’m not so active on the forums here anymore, and I rarely go to Woot at all anymore, but it breaks my heart to hear about @ceagee
While I can’t pretend we were ever really close, she was a big contributor to both the Deals.woot community and here, which had a play in my participation in both communities. Her death is a shitty bit of news and it saddens me more than I can express.
For those that were close, for her family and her friends, for the stray cats in the world – I’m sorry for your loss. It’s truly sad and she will be missed
/image fuck cancer
A contribution will be made to St Jude’s in her name
I’m just going to sit here and keep on shaking my head in sad disbelief. @ceagee, I hope you wandered over the rainbow bridge and met some old friends on the other side.
We received a personal thank you message from Wendy at Volunteers For Animals / Genesee County Animal Shelter:
From: Volunteers For Animals info@vol4animals.org
Subject: Re: Notification of Donation Received

Dear Matt and friends,
Thank you for your very generous donation, in memory of Cheryl Gates, to the help the many animals at the Genesee County Animal Shelter. Because of people like you, we were able to treat and care for the hundreds of animals that come through the doors of the Shelter. We are able to provide basic vet care, vaccines, deworming, testing but most importantly spaying and neutering prior to adoption.
Cheryl was a very special person - we miss her dearly. I have many fond stories of Cheryl helping animals. I was not surprised that she wanted to continue to help the animals at the Shelter.
Thank you again for supporting the animals at the Genesee County Animal Shelter.
I’m still grieving over Cheryl’s passing, we’ve known each other for about 6 years, and were friends. I’ve taken on the user name “TheFerret” in her memory, I saw the ferret when it was caged. I am also the owner of one of the P7 LED Lenser’s (keepsake). I gave the other one away to another special person after I repaired it.
I joined meh, just to be part of the conversation.
@TheFerret Welcome to the forum! I only knew Ceagee online but miss her too. Do you play fantasy football? That was how I got to know her- stop by in the fall and join up.
@sammydog01 I really don’t play fantasy football, however, living in Western NY, and being a Buffalo Bills (17 year playoff drought) fan by virtue of proximity, I basically live in a fantasy football league, always fantasizing about the Bills making it to the playoffs. At least round #1… I remember when she was telling me about joining in the league.
@TheFerret Go Bills! I’m from Western NY too. I had never played fantasy football but got hooked here. Just don’t pick any Bills players for your team.
I don’t know how I missed this thread from January 2017 but I wondered what had happened to her on this site. She was always a kind person—now I know finally what happened to her -gone too soon
I’m just checking in after what… many many years. I want to say to Hello ! to everyone on this thread ! and… Now that the Bills, are somewhat competitive, my virtual fantasy football team hopes are a reality. I’ll get to see them in one playoff game anyway… LOL. Scroll down to the bottom of the VFA page, you can see that Winnie’s fund ( in memory of Cheryl ) is still going strong. https://www.vol4animals.org/home/help-the-animals
Last October, from cancer.
2016 hasn’t stopped robbing us of special spirits.
@KDemo
Shit. So sorry.
@f00l these were just my exact words
What? What? Now I am quite sad. I really liked ceagee
This sucks.
She liked cats. And last year she played in the beginner fantasy football league. We had a lot of fun in that league.
@sammydog01
@sammydog01 That was a pretty good league. I always liked her commentary.
@sammydog01 Did she have any friends or family that you know of?
@dashcloud I only know what the obituary said- she had sisters and was well liked. She lived in the small town in western NY where she grew up.
I always chuckled when @JonT wrote “@ceagee, @ceagee, @ceagee” - as if he were shaking his head at an errant child.
@KDemo Thanks for that- it was before my time.
@KDemo aww, that was a great Ask Irk.
@ceagee was a friend of mine (I’m going to use the @ in case she is listening). I met her at Deals.Woot. She drew my attention for her wit, her sense of humor, and her love of music. @Barney I remember the ferret. https://meh.com/forum/topics/what-was-it-
So sorry, @Barney. Didn’t she give hints and make us guess what kind of animal she rescued? She was really fun and her passing leaves an empty space.
@Shrdlu - Would you be willing to let them know at Woot? You seem to have a real connection there, and a wonderful way with words.
@KDemo It’ll be brief, and I’m going to point them to this thread. I’m also going to cry while I do it.
@Barney @ceagee Of course she’s listening, and if you hold the screen just right and look between the lines, you can see her replies.
@2many2no
Thank you, @2many2no, I’ll keep looking for her between the lines.
@Barney
Well, that was a stab in the heart. She had a good heart, and she seemed very kind. Are there any details that could be made public? This just really hurts.

@Shrdlu
Thx for doing that.
@everyone
I had forgotten about the animals.
That makes me smile a bit, but it’s not a normal happy smile.
@Shrdlu Thank you for doing this.
That’s so sad. Godspeed.
@barney @shrdlu @kdemo so sorry you have lost such a dear friend…
Aw, no.
@matthew Maybe an Irk eulogy or at least a quiet moment?
My tears are real right now …
Godspeed, @ceagee.
Very sad news, I too was first introduced to her in the woot forums.
So very sad. RIP ceagee

@mehbee Sorry, I do not have an address.
@Barney if the obituary lists a funeral home an address can be found from them.
Well, fuck.
@magic_cave Yeah.

@Barney It sounds like it was relatively quick, at least. It sounds callous, but I’d rather go quickly than slowly over many years - speaking as someone who helped take care of my grandma who had alzheimer’s for a decade or so.
I am too on the verge of tears. I didn’t know her except here, but she was more real than all the celebrities we list here who died.
@looseneck So true. And so, so sad.
Sad news. Thoughts for her family and friends.
That’s sad. RIP @ceagee

Thanks so much for that, @snapster. I wonder if her family will be notified? They would likely be gratified to know how many admired her here and on Woot.
@snapster
Thank you. Intend to do likewise.
@snapster I’m sure she would be pleased that you helped her furry friends.
@snapster This is a very nice thing for you to do. Thank you.
@snapster Thank you for doing this.
@snapster Thank you for being a caring CEO.
@snapster thanks for the link. donation made.
Since you broke the news @KDemo, my mind has gone into preservation mode and tried to keep me in a cheerful mood.
Unfortunately, it’s fighting a losing battle and it keeps on going through my mind about @ceagee.
Sigh
This is saddening.
@PlacidPenguin -
@sammydog01 and @Barney uncovered the sad facts over here.
@KDemo @sammydog01 @Barney
Oh. I was gone for almost all of January, so I didn’t see that thread.
@PlacidPenguin
The sad news came out about the same time you reappeared.

@TheFerret Good to have you here.

@PooltoyWolf She really was the best.

Oh, forgot to mention, I have since adopted a rescue cat, Frisco… Ok, so this wasn’t his best photo…
@TheFerret Love the photo
Hello neighbor! Did you get buried in snow like the Bills game? I got about 5 feet down in PA near the lake. Expecting another 8-10 this week
@TheFerret
That is an excellent photo!
Wow ! 5 feet ! Nothing major here, maybe 6 to 8 inches. Hopefully Buffalo doesn’t get the 8-10 you mentioned.
