Shelley Duvall, the beloved star who played Jack Nicholson’s wife in The Shining, has died, aged 75.
News of her death was announced by Dan Giloy, her partner since 1989. Gilroy told The Hollywood Reporter that she died in her sleep of complications from diabetes.

@mossygreen Love this. He was really amazing. He’s already been missed for quite some time while he more or less went into seclusion over the years. He’ll certainly be missed more now.
Damn. First Buffett, now this. The ending to the “Newhart” series was brilliant. Loved him as Professor Proton. And all the others…RIP and thanks for all the laughter.
@katbyter Really sucks how he got screwed out of his company and his name by shyster investors. I never tasted the original recipe but he had said the mass market version was not the same as what he made.
James Darren, a teen idol who helped ignite the 1960s surfing craze as a charismatic beach boy paired off with Sandra Dee in the hit film “Gidget,” died Monday at 88.
@macromeh MOONDOGGIE.
I’ve been fascinated by him since I realized that NOT ONLY was he Pepper’s love interest on Police Woman and on TJ Hooker, but he was also a pop singer on The Donna Reed Show whose character was the subject of Johnny Angel. And on top of that, he was on The Time Tunnel AND Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and had a movie career, and a singing career, and IT’S INSANE. Such a varied resume.
He said he had a stutter as a child and didn’t speak from ages 8 to 14, but when a high school teacher discovered he wrote poetry, they found he didn’t stutter when reading his work in front of the class. The seed of an amazing career, an iconic voice and a tribute to all the dedicated teachers out there! RIP, Mufasa.
@ircon96 Just watched Field of Dreams again, where he played Terrence Mann, the author who was invited ‘into the corn’. And not that long ago saw the original Conan movie (the only decent one of them all) where he played Thulsa Doom. He really grew into the Darth Vader role over time (the original episode he sounded stilted), but I would take the first two above as my favorite of his roles.
@llangley@Kyeh Sad. He portrayed Billy The Kid in the movie Pat Garret And Billy The Kid.
