I love Irk, I love this song. I've grown to hate Mad Ape Den. The translations are seriously stretching it these days. I think the last one I actually enjoyed was (You Gotta) Fight For Your Right (To Party.)
So... seeing the news and watching this has got me wanting to see Irk do wrecking ball in mad ape den... Also the video he should be on the wrecking ball...
Brilliant. This is one of the best. And it seems to me that Irk and the modified lyrics add a sexual rawness to it. Just listen again with a mind for sexual entendre (mine rarely shuts down) and I think you'll agree.
Of course it's disturbingly sexual and goofy as shit all at the same time. Classic Irk. Amirite, @irishbyblood?
@joelmw Hard to find something to disagree with in this well researched, intelligent and in-depth analysis @joelmw The "disturbingly sexual" is perhaps a wee bit overstated, but hey, I'm pretty disturbingly sexual myself.
@irishbyblood Yeah, for me it's implicitly disturbing to hear this sort of thing from a spokestroll puppet. Intellectually I can approve of your feelings for the troll and I'm willing to support you in your efforts, but there's still a part of me that's disturbed by it. Of course, a little bit of disturbed can be a good thing.
@joelmw I get really excited when things are explicit. Like my feelings for Irk. He's the plush equivalent of the bad boy he is trying to emulate in this video. He's got black hair and a tude, and I wish his human master would allow him to fly the bird, if only and intentionally at me. And then segue into some horseshit about the 4 horsemen riding into town to deliver the apocalypse, perhaps?
@joelmw See? That's my problem right there. I read that line and if I wasn't aware of today's song I would have no fucking clue what it was referencing. I want to read a M.A.D. and know what song it is!
@cinoclav Part of what impresses me about this particular sample is that the syllable count and rhythm match the original. And I think it's a decent translation. I started to quibble about "ow," but, in fact, this is a far better translation than most, because "ow" gets at (and, indeed, emphasizes, which is appropriate in this case), the personal sensation (as opposed to a possible more abstract reading of "burns").
@cinoclav So the other thing I need to admit (and I've probably said this elsewhere in the forum, but who the fuck has time to read all of the shit I say, right?) is that I have a probably-abnormal appreciation for interpretations that are at once mostly accurate and yet quite askew.
@matthew@JonT I know I may regret this but wasn't I supposed to get a crummy prize for you guys selecting my mediocre Mad Ape Den translation? The only reason I bring it up is because my wife asked me last night what piece of crap did Meh send me for our song.
@MontanaVike I will get you a sufficiently crummy prize soon! I even managed to send out multiple prizes last week so I'm feeling good about your chances.
@JonT After reading another forum post about a member (@jaremelz) getting his prize after waiting since August, it reminded me that I too am still waiting. Or am I? Maybe my mediocre prize is that I did not receive any useless junk for my kids to destroy. Either way, I say meh!
@barnabee Yeah, the mention of a prize just reminded me that I was promised something so completely MEH that I would be completely ambivalent about its reception.
Overall, I'm not too worried about it especially since the final Mad Ape Den translation was only about 50% of what I submitted. Irk must not like my way with words or something.
Ring of Fire - Aka Taco Bell
@lichme I don't get it, I've never had any stomach problems after eating Taco Bell.
@lichme
Do you have a stomach like a nervous Chihuahua?
Mad Ape Den: I go to meh to see.

Take it up with @MontanaVike
@matthew Hey! That's me! ;) Sorry this wasn't the best. It's hard saying everything with only 3 letters
@MontanaVike You did great. Pushing the limits is way more fun than being a slave to the rules.
@MontanaVike I think this is exceptionally good. Truly. Beautiful even. Haters gonna hate.
I had some super hot Thai for lunch. Gonna be a ring of fire tomorrow for sure.
Hey, @matthew! It's a song I've heard before! Wall of Voodoo was very popular in Footlooseton.
@SSteve
@thismyusername Classic. The face coming out of the beans has been etched in my memory for thirty years.
Something seemed different about how he was bobbing about today
@WilhelmScreamer I noticed too.
Awesome!
That off-camera look. Don't ever piss off Irk. And back-up vocals, nice touch.
This freaking song will be in my head all damn day.

@irishbyblood Well I for one can agree that this should happen. But who cares what I think?
@joelmw I care.
@joelmw See? That's my problem right there. I read that line and if I wasn't aware of today's song I would have no fucking clue what it was referencing. I want to read a M.A.D. and know what song it is!

@joelmw The ow is so visceral, and humanizes the metaphorical pain of this ring of Fire. Blazem if ya gottem.
@irishbyblood Yes. Really, it frightens me how much sense you make. ;-)

@joelmw And now I really do care. This place gets me. It really gets me.
@joelmw I do. I have time to read all of the shit you say, and I have.
@JonT This makes me feel special. Even though I know it's your job. I maybe feel a little guilty too.
@JonT Sometimes I pity you. And not just a little.
Next Mad Ape Den: RickRoll
everytime i see that still, with the black & white play button, right over irk's eye, for a split second it looks like irk has a black eye.

@MontanaVike @JonT has left the company. @Hollboll has taken over the job of sending out the prizes. Please check in over at this thread: https://meh.com/forum/topics/help-hollboll-out
@mediobarkre Dang. I knew JonT had left but I didn't really check my post that well. I just replied. Thanks for the heads up!
@MontanaVike Also, @jaremelz received a prize from another member, not from Meh.
@barnabee Yeah, the mention of a prize just reminded me that I was promised something so completely MEH that I would be completely ambivalent about its reception.
