What is the approximate circumference of the world? (You must explain how you arrive at your answer)
@Mehrocco_Mole Approximately 22,400 miles according to the math based on the info given (and pretending both cities were on the equator).
There are 24 time zones. There’s a 3-hour difference in time between the 2 cities. 24 ÷ 3 = 8. 8 × 2800 (aka the distance between the 2 cities) = 22,400 miles.
@Mehrocco_Mole Approx. 24.8k miles, because I learned that in an elementary school geography class. (24 time zones X 1035 miles wide at the equator.)
You didn’t say that your city times had to figure into the answer.
@msklzannie You are first and correct. The word approximate was used intentionally because according to Wikipedia, "Earth’s circumference measured around the poles is 24,817.971 mi. Measured around the equator, it is 24,901.461 mi.
@rockblossom The cities are there only to help establish time zones. The particular cities were chosen to get as close to 3000 miles as possible.
