I’m all about it, as long as it’s something that I might use in the future. My brother used to gift me Red Lobster gift cards…I’m allergic to most seafood, so they really didn’t do me much good. No ill will meant from him…He’s no longer with us (RIP Bro!) so I wish I could still get those from him.
If the specific restaurant is chosen specifically because of the recipient, then that’s fine. My boss once got me a gift card to the Melting Pot because he knows I love fondue and that was a great gift. I have had multiple random restaurant gift cards given to me that I ended up giving to other people (not as a gift) so that they would get used.
@somf69 Similar for Sam’s Club cards. A lot are cheaper than refills offered at the restaurants themselves, so … who’s shooting themselves in the foot here?
Depends on the cost of the meal after the GC is used. $25 to a place that’s going to cost me 100+ /plate is more like a taunt than a gift. Here’s $25 to a place you’ll never be able to/want to afford … Now you can just sit with the guilt that you’re wasting my money by not wasting yours.
Some people give out GCs for a restaurant that they like and they get personal GCs for their purchase.
Example: buy four $25 GCs, get a free $25 E-card.
I had a friend who did this last year and wound up with a lot of credit to his favorite restaurant, but he didn’t realize until it was almost to late, that the E-credits had a 30day expiration date. So he wound up eating there 5 days in a row before they expired!

Not a fan myself due to various food allergies here.

The people in my life know where and how we like to eat so its always welcome.
Nope, unless it’s someplace fancy like Cracker Barrel…
Costco gift cards are the best for this. $100 gift cards for usually 75 bucks.

As long as it’s one I’ve asked for.

@lonocat I wonder if he still liked it as much after that?
