We gave up on the show, but every time “The Day of the Doctor” comes on we’ll drop most things to watch it. That was a fun episode . Same with a number of the Christmas episodes through the years.
The recent New Year’s day special was horrible. The Doctor has been in prison for 20 years, and when she’s reunited with her human companions, they spend the rest of the episode whinging about how she “abandoned” them for 10 months.
By the end of the episode I was really hoping for some vaporizations or other grisly deaths for the whiny little gits. But that was yet another disappointment.
@blaineg@unksol It’s been awhile, but I think they worked it out in the episode that the “long way” took him billions of years to bash through the diamond wall with his fists. In contrast it seems this doctor just sat there moping around for a couple of decades talking to the cameras like they were Wilson.
@unksol Chris Chibnall was was talking up an “emotional”, “tears”, “sad” & “shocking” departure for two companions. In the end, they just walked away, and I was glad to see them go.
@blaineg I said vs. I.e. previous doctors took maybe billions of years to get to their companion. Get out… Idk what happened in this one
But in all fairness the doctors personality shifts with each “regeneration” and so does the writing. I generally like this doctor as I have all the rest.
@unksol If you have cable, it’s on BBC America. It also streams on AMC+, which you can get through Amazon or the Roku channel. No cable, no Amazon Prime, and no Roku? Then …
@blaineg I enjoyed the episode but I was waiting for a last minute, final “oh, how long was it for you?” question from the companions to the Doctor. It did make them seem quite self-centered.
I decided it was showing us the difference in time perception for humans and Time Lords.
@blaineg@dave it is pretty relative lol. We see that sometimes when the doctor is supposed to land right where they left. “I can bring you right back no one will notice you are gone” then screwsbthe landing by a few months. Or decades. Not a new thing. Been some big gaps before. That get addressed later
you want random?
you asked for it… Rule 34 of the internet…

@duodec That’s my favorite one.
Don’t turn your back, don’t look away and don’t blink!

@blaineg you mean vs the 11th doctor beating himself to death for thousands of years to save clara?

I have not seen this one but I always like some more who. We all have our favorite doctors and companions and time is relative

@unksol No, the 2021 episode with Jodie Whittaker, Revolution of the Daleks.
Heaven Sent was great.

I think Chibnall needs to go as well.

@blaineg where are you watching this anyway… HBOmax is the only US point of release? I think? No special. I is sad

@rockblossom ugh I went through the whole thing to get it in HBOmax last season. Now amazon games . Just. Wtf

@rockblossom @unksol bit comet
So who’s John Bishop? “British famous” I guess?
@blaineg
John Joseph Bishop is an English comedian, presenter, actor, and former footballer.

@earlyre But did you know that without Wikipedia?
@blaineg are you kidding?
Fuck no I didn’t.
I probably know more Brit famous comedians than your average Johnny Bumblefuck American, but, no, never heard of him…
To be quite honest, the way they threw his name up at the end, I figured that was the character’s name…
