@Ignorant
Does Brazil stand in its own or do I need to watch Time Bandits first?
The other weekend I showed my wife and kids The Princess Bride for the first time and they all loved it! I Googled movies similar to The Princess Bride and Time Bandits was highly recommended. I have not seen Time Bandits or Brazil.
@ilovecincinnati Brazil is a stand alone movie.
If you are going to watch with the wife and kids I’d go with Time Bandits since that’s more of a fun adventure movie where Brazil is more dark and dystopian.
@stolicat Personal opinion: Serenity is inferior to the worst episode of Firefly.
Unless you’re talking about the Matthew McConaughey movie. I can’t speak about that.
@OnionSoup C’mon…Leah Thompson (Minnesota girl!!) made the movie worth watching, if nothing else! The fact that she got paid for l’amour with a duck??? Now you might have an argument why it was not a very good movie.

Fine then. If you didn’t think Snakes on a Plane was worthy, then there’s this gem:

In Smell-O-Rama.
@MrMikenIkes I thought the “Clue” gimmick of having multiple endings and the notion of getting a random one at your particularly showing was genius, but I’m not sure it really worked like they thought it would. I don’t remember anyone I knew going to see it multiple times.
I heard rumblings as recently as last year regarding a reboot with Jason Bateman.
This was difficult. These are the movies that I will turn on when I see them on the channel guide (at any point in movie). In alphabetical order:
A Christmas Story
Fifth Element
Galaxy Quest
Groundhog Day
Notting Hill
Princess Bride
“Rewatchability” counts a lot for me in labeling something a favorite:
Original Star Wars (I don’t call it “A New Hope”)
Princess Bride
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Like many fans, I think “Empire” is the best movie of the Star Wars franchise. But I went into a auditorium back in in 1977 not really knowing anything about the movie I was about to see. It was an experience that is virtually impossible these days, and the fact that I encountered it thru the eyes of a 12 year old makes it an all-time favorite.
@DrWorm I too considered SW, but then ESB was just much better as a movie overall and I couldn’t pick just one over the other, so neither got a spot on my list. As it was, I had to choose between Fifth Element and Galaxy Quest, and in retrospect, I should have given Galaxy Quest the spot.
@mike808 Have you seen “Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary”? Highly recommended. It starts with a quote from David Mamet that “There are four perfect movies. The Godfather, A Place in the Sun, Dodsworth and Galaxy Quest”
Brazil
The City of Lost Children
From Justin to Kelly
@Ignorant Oh! Oh! Oh! From Justin to Kelly is one of my faves! It might even be number one on my list.

Just 3 is tough, especially after 3 months of movie viewing and re-viewing, but for right now I’d have to say
Cocteau’s Beauty and the Beast
The Two Towers
Before Sunrise
Honorable mention to Jojimbo and Serenity.
I’m sure someone will mention one that I’ll wish I had included.

@Limewater i agree, but firefly wasn’t a movie, or I would’ve had it on the list.
Howard The Duck…
… Errm I don’t know. I don’t have a fave. Just pick any three movies which aren’t Howard The Duck.

@OnionSoup OK then
Plan 9 from Outer Space
Soul Plane
Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
@OnionSoup @rtjhnstn No love for Snakes on a Plane?
@rtjhnstn never seen any of them.
@mike808 @rtjhnstn I’ve not seen snakes on a plane either.
Is it better than Howard the Duck?

@OnionSoup Are you okay with “Guardians of the Galaxy”? (Howard the Duck makes an appearance in it)

Saving Private Ryan

How does one pick just three?
Ghostbusters
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

@DrWorm I have.
Have you watched Galaxy Quest in the native Thermian? It loses so much in comparison to the English dubbed version.
Based on frequency of re-watching:
Blade Runner
Terminator 2: Judgement Day
Aliens
@macromeh Game over, man, game over!
Bill Paxton, known for this line, passed away in 2017. I’m sure it’s on his tombstone. Or will be…
3 of my top movies!!
Forrest Gump!
Otis and Milo!
Toy Story!
@PocketBrain

John Sayles “Lone Star”

A Clockwork Orange
Too many to be able to select only three
