Putting On A Fresh Goat (August 2021 Scapegoat Blame Thread)
15Is it August already? Well, there’s still a bit of summer left to be enjoyed, but it’s moving fast so get after it.
Speaking of, @Kyeh enjoyed as much of July as possible, and kept our minds off of worse situations by taking the heat, but with the temperature rising it’s about time for a new goat in the pen. I guess @RogerWilco has stepped to the front of the line and left us no choice.
Let the goat know what it means to be responsible for everything by signing it all off to @RogerWilco. Over and out.

Well, I guess I deserve this for nominating you, GoaT, but I was on this righteous streak of non-meh clicks and I had an entire month of white circles for July, as was my goal, but I forgot to capture it, you know, so I can relive my glory days when I’m old and mostly just drooling in a cup, I mean for pity’s sake - what else do I have??!!
All I ask is for is just some simple pleasure like meeting an easy goal I set for myself having lowered the bar to “a cert” and you take it away from me! It’s sad, really, how vindictive you can be. All because I pointed out your disparaging remarks against scapegoats, which cut deeply, if I am to be honest about it. Anyway, now I have to do it all over again! But it just won’t be the same.
July ended on a Saturday, so the extra faces were at the top right and the pattern ended with a satisfying full bottom row. Sure, August begins with a full row, but then it continues on for a partial week at the end. THAT’s not going to do! But now I’m going to have to be satisfied with a lesser month. Sheeesh!
I hope you’re happy.
This is going to be a LOOOOONG month…
@ybmuG You had some pretty easy goals to begin with.
I’m struggling on helping you set them lower.
Maybe just one daily goal of “get out of bed”.
I set mine for a while at “don’t die”.
So far I’m feeling pretty good about achieving my goals.
p.s. - if I disappear during the month at random please assume my daily goal was not met.
@RogerWilco @ybmuG
Traditionally, merely being dead does not end one’s tenure in such an appointed positiin. You remain in office until and unless replaced, and the only certain method of ensuring succession is to be actively present to guide and even insist upon it. If necessary, draft the needed “volunteer”.
@werehatrack Hey that tracks.
Upon death I’ll plan on becoming the dreaded ScapeGhoast…
haunting the shadows of Meh with cat memes until that one fateful day when the site is sold to Walmart for 111 million dollars.
Ending my reign of terror in a most mediocre fashion.
@RogerWilco @werehatrack @ybmuG
Heck being dead doesn’t even prevent you from being goated to begin with. I posted a death certificate with forged meh signatures and I still got goated.
It’s still Caturday here:
@narfcake
It’s dropped to the 70s for the high this week so. Good job? I know it was 94 and 100% humidity for a coworker so he might have some blame
@unksol You’re welcome.
Please let your coworker know that I’ll continue to raise the temp daily until he stops microwaving raw fish in the common area.
Nobody likes that guy.
@RogerWilco lol. I like this guy. We all work from home he’s just way down south and getting a lot of it. It’s literally 94 and 100%
Blame. Did not win powerball. Again.

@tmdowling Sorry, I’m not sure what you’re trying to buy. Make sure you’re posting in today’s deal topic.
@mediocrebot LOL. Indeed, I was not posting in today’s deal topic. Heh. Sorry, thanks!
Hey @RogerWilco you need to get your shit together and realize you have blame coming in this thread and deal with it even if you’ve rigged it so that they forget to blame you. Step up to the plate like @keyh did with me earlier in the missed the click thread. @tmdowling can’t get it together to do the /buy command in the right thread. You need to stop screwing with people’s brains and stop being distracted by relief that their brains are so scrambled that they forgot to blame you like what happened with @GrandmaLyn. Where the fuck is the auto-mediocrebot shoutout trigger word to the scapegoat whenever the word scapegoat appears in a post? Roll the count, @carl669.
And blame for the Meh devs not implementing /blame and /unblame mehdown slash commands to do the same thing.

Blame! I’m getting quotes to move long distance, <800 miles. One 3 BR, 2 BA house, plus garage. I’ve pared furniture way down: 1 bed/dresser/chest/nightstand set. 10 bookcases, 8 ‘sofa tables’, 5 baker’s racks, 1 sofa, 3 chairs, 2 TVs. A gazillion boxes of books. The usual linens, curtains, clothes, kitchen stuff etc. The estimator didn’t have a mask, I gave him a KN95 and insisted he wear it. He explained that because they did physical labor, it was impossible to wear masks. Written, nonbinding estimate was $20,000. for the move plus 2 months of storage. I spent 15 years of my career as a supply systems analyst, and I know when I’m being bullshat. Old lady with cat, easy mark. Your fault, Goat!
/image sucker
@OldCatLady You just know he tacked on an extra $10K for making him wear a mask to protect you, his potential customer.
Vote with your dollars and take your business elsewhere. Post a review to that effect on Google, Yelp, and on their Twitter feeds. If you took a maskless picture of the covidiot, post it on their Instagram and FB reviews.
If they don’t care about your health, what makes you think they give a shit about your stuff? And if they’re doing the work only because they’re getting paid for it, then you want to keep looking for another firm that has a better attitude and work ethic.
@OldCatLady To the estimator whining about doing physical work and having to wear a mask to protect themself and their customers.
Because walking around your house and looking at stuff to do the estimate is “physical work”. Please. They’re a fucking drama queen. Did you offer to nominate them for an Oscar?
Should have told them that you were fine with that and unless they were actually doing the physical labor and you were a safe distance away and that they disinfected your stuff they were sweating and breathing all over loading and unloading, they would have to wear a mask.
@mike808 If they want my money, they must MASK while I am present. My house, my rules. In fact, I’ll require proof of vaccination before anyone else comes in. Old lady with attitude here. This is jacksonfuckupville Flori-duh.
@OldCatLady
Maybe you can hire this guy. He doesn’t have a problem with wearing a mask.
@mike808 Oh yes, but he’s probably busy.
@OldCatLady
@OldCatLady When I moved about three miles away 2 years ago, and had to put everything in storage for 2 months it cost me about 10k total and I had more stuff than you had. Mover found storage place where they gave 1st months rent free (had to pay for ins though) and in Florida with Gov DeDumbass in charge got an storage unit that had AC to keep away mold and mildew.
Blame: Somebody’s damn car alarm has been beeping for several minutes now; luckily not too close by, but I can still hear it and it’s annoying - I mean, that car could have been long gone by now if it was actually being stolen!!!

@Kyeh it was just a few days shy, I did it on the 14th of last month

Unblame and blame-went to the dtr today for my every three months testing for my A1C for my diabetes. Had put me on a new medication Ozempic (you may have seen the commercial with Bill Gardell of Bob hearts Abashola). Well the medicine works as advertised-lost 10 lbs (the medicine has recently been approved as a weight loss drug also) and my A1C went down from 7.9 to 6.8. (Goal is to get it and keep it below 7).
She had given me samples for 3 months and now the fun begins with the prescription cost for 3 months being in excess of $700.
@Felton10 Doctors are just licensed drug dealers.
/image change my mind meme
Who else would say “The first hit is free”?
@Felton10 @mike808
@Felton10 did you consider this?
@tinamarie1974 All those discounts and coupons apply when you have regular insurance. Once you go on medicare (part D) when you really need it, they don’t apply anymore. Since I am in the “doughnut hole” have to pay a % of retail rather than the fixed $ 135 for non generic drugs and given that I am taking insulin ( as my pancreas gave out producing it) and Januvia always get to the doughnut hole around mid year. Since the medication has to be kept refrigerated until use, can’t get it from Canada. But thanks for your suggestion anyway.
@Felton10 well shit, my parents are on part D so I understand. I doubt it, but do any of the discount programs work for that particular medicine (ie GoodRx, etc)
@tinamarie1974 I checked Goodrx as I have used that before and it was in excess of $ 900 at all places listed on it. When a new medication comes out, they can pretty much charge what the market will bear.
@Felton10 Canada has reopened their border to U.S. citizens. Check their prices, and the cost of a short flight to Toronto.

Interesting banner showed up on my visit today to Bezos’ Emporium:
https://amazon.com/PrimeRx
If you’re a Prime member, apparently a new benefit is Amazon will price shop your drugs. Not sure what other benefits come with it. Maybe it will help.
@mike808 @OldCatLady @tinamarie1974 https://www.amazon.com/primerx/search/Ozempic?medication=Ozempic&form=Pen Injector&dosage=0.25 MG - 0.5 MG&quantity=1 Box&sort_by=POPULARITY

@Felton10 @mike808 @OldCatLady holy shit balls!!!
@OldCatLady Since this medication requires refrigeration-a lot of options are off the table-when my mail order sends me my insulin which requires refrigeration also, it comes to me overnight in a container with frozen freezer packs to keep it cold.
@Felton10 Only thing I can say is that the PrimeRx price was 7% less than any of the others. At least for my area in STL.
@mike808 @OldCatLady @tinamarie1974 My feelings exactly in somewhat similar words. And that is for one pen!!!
@Felton10 @mike808 @OldCatLady you realize I added the “balls” to holy shit just for you, right???
@mike808 @OldCatLady @tinamarie1974 I figured you more than anyone would be reluctant to let go of my balls.

@RogerWilco is at fault for me missing out on all instant regret kits today.

BIG BIG BIG BLAME-the chances of us taking our 50th wedding anniversary cruise to Hawaii in November just decreased by 50%. Hawaii just instituted new group restrictions-limits of 10 inside and 25 outside-don’t know how that is going to work with cruise ship tours. Plus cruise line just published new Covid guidelines. Masks are to be worn inside in most areas of ship-except when you are eating and drinking. Have to wear a mask when you sit down in the dinning room before you eat. Plus even if vaccinated, you have to produce evidence of a negative Covid test taken no more three days before the ship sails.
@Felton10
The time is 0001 EDT Thursday 08/19/2021. There has been no blame for almost six days. We last heard from @felton10 on the darkest of days. Friday the 13th. It has been a bleak and cold time since. Our radio may have gone out but if anyone is still hearing us we must try…
I fear without fresh blame to fuel them @RogerWilco’s cat memes will starve in the void. And we may all slide into the darkness of the abyss…
Has meh stopped posting the blame thread on the front page? Have the mehtizens forgotten? Has there been so little blame that the algorithm has written our GOAT off? We can only wonder what has befallen our brothers and sisters.
I beseech you breathe fresh life into our GOAT. Raise him from the dead. Offer him the blame he was rightfully elected too. Let the cat memes flow lest we all perish into the dark.
@unksol We can blame the goat for our forgetting to blame him!
@unksol
@Kyeh
Blame - The MS medical system has had a covid meltdown collapse due to the non-vaccinated idiots and the no mask mandate governor, (so better not have a heart attack, get shot - happens daily and then some in this city, get in a car wreck, etc. as no beds for you and many ER’s are closed due to housing unvaccinated covid assholes there too waiting for a bed to open). The state wouldn’t pay so they had to beg an international charity (hell Jackson, MS is a third world country anyway so I guess all is good using one that was set up to work in 3rd world countries) to set up hospital tents in two hospital parking garages as there is basically no room in the inn or the barn for that matter state either. And BLAME also for a major test I was supposed to have that is now cancelled with no idea when it will be rescheduled for due to fucking asshats.
@Kidsandliz well that all around sucks. Idk what the hell is wrong with some governors. Seems like concentrated down south but Indiana is red and not implementing a mask mandate but not actively trying to stop local government either…
That is one I wouldn’t blame the goat for cause it’s just BS politics but if he’s still out there goats at play is always happy

Unblame-My wife has lunch with a friend of hers today who told her she had just gotten her booster shot of Moderna over at Walgreens. We went over there when she got home and got our booster shots also-way before they were supposed to start on Sept 20th and 3 months before we were due at our 8 month mark in November. They said it as long as it was 28 days after you got your second shot, you were OK to get it.
@Felton10et us know how you feel tomorrow
@tinamarie1974 That will be the $ 64 question-we were both laid up in bed with aches and pains after the second shot.
@Felton10 I remember!!! I had a similar reaction and am wondering if it will be the same the third time around.
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974
Apparently the booster doesn’t really do anything until after 8 months. It doesn’t change the protection from hospitalization, severe symptoms, and death. What it does do is boost the protection from minor to moderate symptoms that seems to decrease over time. Hence, the recommendation for boosters to keep the immunized healthy with Delta running rampant through the un-vaccinated.
Especially to protect the children, who can’t get vaccinated (yet?), from the adults who can, and choose to get the jab to protect children - theirs and others.
@Felton10 @mike808 understood, I am just curious how bad side effects will be and what I have to look forward to
@mike808 @tinamarie1974 Assuming I can get out of bed, you will be one of the first to know.
@Felton10 @mike808 fingers crossed it is unremarkable
@mike808 @tinamarie1974 Lots better than last time. Arm is still sore, but always that way when I get a shot in the left arm. So I’m out of bed and functioning normally. Wife same way.
@Felton10 @mike808 that is fantastic, so happy to hear it
@Felton10 @mike808 @tinamarie1974 I just had my booster in OH yesterday and am driving home 1000 miles. I had few side effects with the initial 2 shots and this time I feel crappy. Get to drive anyway. I am at the half way point right now. It probably varies by person though.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @mike808 oh no, hope you feel better soon!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @mike808
@tinamarie1974 Ugh - I hope your drive is safe and uneventful, but at least you can probably feel assured that it’s working?
@Felton10 @mike808 @tinamarie1974
That is not true. Typically in adults who had a full response and don’t have an impaired immune system you have somewhere between 67-85% of your original response after 6-8 months. Folks with an impaired immune system often never responded as well (or at all) and at least one study shows they are losing their protection faster. In my case (I am part of the leukemia and lymphoma study - I have follicular non-hodgin’s lymphoma) in June I had 1630/2500 (3 mo out), July 1231/2500 (4 mo out) and Thursday 940/2500 (5 mo out). All below 67%. I don’t know the initial one as they weren’t doing the dilution test yet so it just says over 250.
In either case the booster gives your immune system a kick in the butt and for many then boosts your response. If you are already at 100% then obviously it won’t do more with respect to raising your antibody count, but if you are below that, it should raise your count. It may do other things but I don’t know what as I didn’t read those articles very carefully.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 got home safely. And yes I would think it is likely doing something since I feel like shit. At least I hope so. Considering how low my antibody count was good thing too. Especially in this covid factory town/state with a collapsed medical system due to that.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @mike808 @tinamarie1974
I hope you feel better soon!
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 I Thanks. I am sure I will. I don’t think vaccination side effects last all that long.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @mike808 @tinamarie1974 For me, the day of my second shot and half the day after I felt crappy, but then all the side effects were gone.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 took me q couple of days to recover, but after that I felt fab
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 We started to feel a little washed out later in the day (today), but nothing a few tylenol wouldn’t cure.
@kyeh So this pot hole just made the news (it is in my general neighborhood) although not the garden one I was talking about (have been out of town for nearly 2 weeks so may run by this weekend to take the photo for you.).
Tomatoes in this one
@Kidsandliz
@Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 (Weird - I commented but the comment didn’t post?)
I said that looks like a fairly affluent neighborhood, too…!
@Kyeh @tinamarie1974 part of it is/was affluent. Lots of tiny ratty houses, hud, etc. there too.
@Kidsandliz
Wow… That looks way less like a pot hole than a holy crap you have a big hole in the ground and your local government said fuck it and put some orange cones up & are waiting for the neighborhood to collapse into the ground with it.
I mean… look at the foliage growing in there.
tomatoes?
damn.
but hey…
No blame for the goat on this either.
You guys are all backwards this month.
@RogerWilco
Yes blame for the goat. You can’t escape that even when taking into consideration that this town is a third world country. Heck you can take the blame for that too.
And that is basically what they have said for years for all the potholes because why should they use money to fix the roads when they can embezzle it instead? We have 43 million that just went missing - money that was awarded for the water meter fiasco (by the company that put them in, no doubt that was nepotism at it’s finest, either that or kickbacks or both) and was supposed to be used to fix the situation. This pot hole isn’t even the most impressive one I have passed around here.
@Kidsandliz
Blame for this bit of website chicanery:
More here.
@mike808
@mike808 @RogerWilco I recall posting that cat one years ago here. That clip is genius.
Unblame. It took a year, but these two FINALLY are laying next to each other and getting along
@tinamarie1974 Maybe they just gave up on you getting rid of the other one after seven years (in dog years).
@mike808 I think Charlie is just finally calming down. Thank goodness.
The brown guy is moms and he is old and sassy. He just wants to lay there and let you pet/love on him. He did not enjoy Charlie shoving toys in his face, jumping on jim, etc. Hoping this was not an anomaly and is a new trend
@tinamarie1974
Maybe they’re lining up dog farts at each other in a silent war.
@mike808 I would not be surprised!!
Hey, @RogerWilco, your reign isn’t over yet! Blame: we got together with my cousin and her husband a few days ago (I hadn’t seen her in many years!) And they both look way younger and slimmer then me and my siblings.
Even though we’re all close in age.

I should also point out that I think next month is a great idea. All harsh sounding words aside, I think it’s great.
Take nothing I say personally.
I talk like an angry sailor & I mean no harm.
(seriously, so many hugs)
Hope you get a new mower.
@chienfou on the bright side fall is coming and so is time to clear out lawn equipment. If you can last. Clearly depends on how far south you are.
@unksol
Clearance sales only help if there is ANY stock. So far i can’t find a single 42 to 46 inch (non zero turn) mower in a store anywhere in 3 states. I can’t even order for delivery… I think Lowes may have some arriving that I’ll be able to order for in store pickup shortly. I could have paid for 25‰ of my new mower (and had all the clippings) for what I’ve paid to keep the lawn mowed.
@chienfou my bad. I assumed you could not find one you wanted in your price range not you could not get one at all. I wonder why such a shortage? They might have very tight supply chains. That could throw things out
@unksol
That seems to be the trouble. Lowe’s, Ace, True Value, Home Depot, Tractor Supply (local S.E US stores) are all out of stock, and so far I can’t order for in store pick up from them either. Not willing to tow a trailer to L&M in Mn/Wisconsin from Alabama. ($250 to ship it… I may have to bite the bullet on that though if I want to get one.)
MTD makes Bolen, Craftsman, Troy-bilt and a handful of others, Husquavarna makes the Husky and Ariens brands. Evidently COVID has had an impact on the production/distribution chains and now that it’s getting to the end of the season I don’t know they will be in a big rush to restock the local outlets…
I am off next week so will spend some Internet time researching options and availability.
@chienfou @unksol Whoever’s mowing for you won’t let you have the clippings?!?
@Kyeh @unksol
Zero turn with no bagger… and uses a mulch blade, so not much to rake… I will do some spots with my electric push mower w/bagger, but it’s a PITA to do the whole acre that way.
@chienfou @unksol
Oh, I see. What is zero turn?
@chienfou @Kyeh a “zero turn” is when you can turn on a dime. Without changing position. The wheels on one side to forward and the wheels on the other go backwards so you end up turning on your axis. It’s like driving a tank.
@chienfou @unksol Oh, cool! Thanks
@Kyeh @unksol
like this: (they steer with handles on each side you pull/push instead of a steering wheel)
@chienfou @Kyeh yep that. Tractors have a similar thing but I just think tank lol.
I have 12 acres but could not have one the front yard is steep/small. The back yard has is own thing. The field. Well tractors are expensive. I do the yards with a self propelled electric craftsman v6o that was clearanced out. The $99 menards brute did fine for years before that but man the self propelled is so good… I didn’t know I needed it lol
@chienfou what’s wrong with it anyway? Shouldn’t be that hard to rebuild a small engine
@unksol
ACR failed. I don’t have the time or inclination to rebuild it, which would entail a full tear down and new/rebuilt camshaft (I
havehad used it as a riding bush-hog basically. If I could run over it, it got ‘mowed’. This includes 1.5 inch diameter 15-20ft tall bamboo…). They wanted about $800 to swap out the engine. Maybe I should have gone that route, but I had already given it to the mechanic for the parts value.@chienfou well… Lol. That’s usually what you get an old tractor for and let the towed mower deck take the abuse. But not suitable for yard work.
@unksol
yeah, I really can’t complain. I used/abused it for several years.
@chienfou @unksol
That looks kind of fun, actually!
@Kyeh @unksol
yep!
@chienfou
Geez, CBS news just said that Alabama’s ICU beds are 100% occupied!!!
@chienfou @Kyeh that is horrible
@chienfou @Kyeh We’ve got some ICU beds in the tents in the parking garage. I hope to heaven in both states no one has a stroke, heart attack, is in an accident that they need an ICU bed.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh
Hey @chienfou how is it at your hospital? Just curious if it is as bad as people are saying
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974
@chienfou @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974
We are holding our own. We shut down our ICU a few years back due to lack of staffing, so any vent patients have to be transferred… which is currently a Herculean task since no one has open beds. We are therefore having to have one-on-one staff for anyone that is inpatient and gets tubed if they go bad, then hold them for days waiting for a bed in transfer. Those that get tubed in the ER stay in the ER for an indefinite amount of time waiting for a bed elsewhere. Meanwhile, with a 5 bed ER, if I have a vent patient I just lost 20% of my capacity. Have a pt go thru that is positive for COVID? That room is cleaned and blocked off for 3-4 hours minimum so that’s another 20% out of commission. It’s been a shit-show, with family members not understanding why we can’t have them back in the rooms with pts, why they can’t wander back and forth to the lobby, why they have to wait in their car if they have COVID symptoms, etc, etc.
@mike808
interestingly this picture appears to have been reversed (right for left).
@chienfou @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 Sounds like a giant PITA. We have patients hanging out in ER for a day or more here waiting for rooms or ICU - even with tents that include 5 ICU beds. On TV a couple of days ago someone warned that if you have an emergency you may not be able to be helped in any of the city’s ER’s without a significant wait due to loss of ER beds to a covid holding tank waiting for rooms, including ICU rooms. With only 5 beds where you work that sounds like COVID and the bed shortage will have a disproportional impact. I know there are 42 beds at the biggest hospital here which include 4 trauma 1 beds (the only ones in town).
@chienfou @Kyeh
Locally we are minus 14 ICU beds so patients are in ER and OR recovery or elsewhere and the hospitals are 100% full locally. The news said a couple of days ago that there were only 6 ICU beds open in the entire state. Dumb fucks need to decide to be vaccinated before they get covid. Not after.
I am sorry but if you voluntarily refuse to be vaccinated and get covid you should have last choice for any hospital bed or be kicked out if it is needed by someone else who has been vaccinated or legit can’t be. Sorry. Choices have consequences. You made a choice. Now suffer the consequences. Your choice affects the rest of us, not just you.
Yet again I had to postpone a medical procedure due to the covid spike due to those fucking pieces of worthless shit who have refused vaccinations and then got sick enough to be hospitalized. They are telling me maybe November. Let’s hope postponing it that long won’t matter.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh
Alabama was at (-56) ICU beds on the 23rd. Don’t think it is any better today. We are ‘treating and streeting’ the vast majority of the C-19 cases we see in this ER. You go home with recommendations for OTC meds, proning instructions and a note for a 10 day quarantine… If you fail outpatient care we are highly recommending you go to a bigger facility where you still may not get a bed/ICU bed right away, but at least you are there when one opens. They are not taking transfers ahead of the holds in their ERs for the most part.
@chienfou @Kyeh Unfortunately I’d think we will be minus everything beds state wide very soon. Some chart just put out says increase % wise is highest in this dumb state (MS). Of course the numbers won’t be as high as TX or FL, etc. as we don’t have as many people, but then we don’t have as many hospitals or beds either. Any way you look at it the entire thing sucks for health care personnel and everyone else who needs care and doesn’t have covid (sorry my pity for the non vaccinated covid patients if they voluntarily turned down a vaccination isn’t very high).
@chienfou @Kyeh Well MS just made the NYTimes. Lays out our mess as the biggest current mess in the nation. Why am I not surprised. Sigh. Things aren’t much better here when there is no covid either.

Paywalled or at the very least must create an account.
That’s not gonna happen. (Much like I refuse to have to use a Facebook log-in in order to check out a business such as a restaurant etc. )
@chienfou @Kyeh dump the cookies. You get a couple free.
BLAME-the last straw re my upcoming cruise-they changed my plane reservation from non-stop from Tampa to San Francisco to one stop with over an hour layover in Houston increasing the total time from 5 to over 8 hours. With Covid on the rise thanks to Gov DeathSentence figured the writing was on the wall-changed cruise from this November to January of 2023-figured either Covid would be mostly gone or the cruise industry would be out of business by then.
But still is our 50th wedding anniversary which doesn’t come around that often so in addition to the cruise bought my wife a gold and diamond bracelet which she seems to be satisfied with plus am taking her out to eat for both breakfast and dinner on our anniversary tomorrow.
@Felton10 Sucks, but better to be healthy for the anniversaries to come … you can celebrate next year by calling it the 50th + 1!
Kind of like the Olympics - it was still the 2020 Olympics, held this year.
@Felton10
Congrats! We had a sail cruise booked for over Christmas but bailed on it due to all the restrictions in the foreseeable future at the stops in the itinerary.
We did a family cruise with my folks for their 50th (2001) and did 6 islands on RCI. Had a blast. 10 adults (5 couples): Sister and BIL, Cousins from France (our age), Old army buddy of Dad’s (also from France and his wife–also married 50 yrs), my parents, and SWMBO and I.
@Felton10
"bought my wife a gold and diamond bracelet which she seems to be satisfied with "
Maybe it’s just me but. I’m feeling something in that sentence. Hard to pin. So many ways it could go. I’m leaning toward frustration you couldn’t give her what you wanted to with general anger… I think it’s the satisfied bit that’s throwing me.
Maybe that’s just cause she’s disappointed you couldn’t go or … idk
@unksol Actually gave her the bracelet a good two weeks before we decided to reschedule the cruise so giving it to her had nothing to do the change of plans, it was an additional gift.
My comment about her being satisfied with it refers to the fact that when we were married one year, I have her a gold plated bracelet which cost $ 70 which she promptly returned. So this was the first piece of jewelry I had given her in 49 years so “she seemed to be satisfied with it”. Took me 49 years to get up the nerve to try again. LOL.
@Felton10 @unksol why did she return the first one?
@tinamarie1974 @unksol It was gold plated-who knew that was a no-no??? I didn’t.
@Felton10 @unksol oh, I didn’t know either. But then again my moms 1st engagement ring was the pop top from a can of soda
Must have been a lucky pop top because like you they just hit the 50 year mark!
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 @unksol
Wow, poptops have served all kinds of important purposes! See @Kidsandliz’s story below, about the creative tent repair.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 @unksol
Of course, a lot of people no longer even know what they are.
http://westerndigs.org/ring-tab-beer-cans-are-now-officially-historic-artifacts/
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @unksol you know what they say, necessity is the mother of invention. Once when I was on a business trip overseas the plastic loop that connected the main part of my bra to the shoulder strap broke. Had no time to figure out where a store was and the hotel had no sewing kits. Used some minty floss to fix it. Held the whole trip!!!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @tinamarie1974 @unksol
That’s great!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 way to disappoint the boys
@Felton10 @tinamarie1974 well not 50 years ago. Had to be something there.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @unksol oh, I was still propositioned several times AND can unequivocally tell you that Scottsmen DO NOT wear anything under their kilts
@Felton10 @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @unksol the ones we used for the pop rings were the 1965-75 ones.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @unksol
@Felton10
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @unksol so funny, but there were 8-10 of them and they were extremely drunk. It is a long story, but they all felt the need to show my friends and I…yikes!!!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 that’s… A lot of scotted dick. If course they were drunk.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @unksol Guess that transcends the language barrier.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @unksol well it would, but they speak english in Scotland but it was a slightly terrifying experience.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @unksol
You checked them twice to make sure, right?
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @unksol nnnooooooo. Was terrified they were gonna do “something” to me and my two friends/business associates until a very nice Scotsman came and intervened
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 @unksol I sure they were just trying to put their best “foot” forward.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 I’m pretty sure a large group of drunk men singling in on a small group of women is not good in general. Never mind in a foreign country even if it is just the UK. And that’s before they whip their dicks out in public.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @unksol yup, well said!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @tinamarie1974 @unksol
Wait, so you met Sir Sean Connery IRL?
/image Sean Connery kilt
And what were you doing at a casting for a Scottish remake of a Piper Pierri movie?
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 @unksol
Don’t know what is wrong with those Scots (umm well I did work there) as even the then almost 5 year old knows they shouldn’t be whipped out in public. She told her recently turned 7 year old brother he couldn’t play with his “thing down there” in public anymore (and then corrected herself to penis - I did not ask about the “anymore” part of that - although at the time he was peeing on a fire ant hill in the front yard to try to drown the ants)." To which the 8 year old on that day (his b-day) said that he wasn’t playing with his because it was stuck to his leg. No underwear on I’d guess.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @unksol Sean Connery would have been a lovely addition.
No we were in the parlor at our hotel it was very late or early depending on your POV and a whole group of very drunk men in kilts came in and joined us. At first it was fine, they were quite funny and there was good conversation. Then one decided to pull up his kilt and make some comments. The others followed in suit. There were too many of them and we could not get out of the room. Not good.
Luckily the bar manager was close by as he had been hanging out with the three of us just before the groups arrived. He got us out of the room, took us into a private bar that had a piano and another employee who had seen what happened stood with us while he went and made us some breakfast. Apparently that guy was studying to be a classical pianist, so we talked him into playing for us. Absolutely beautiful. Breakfast arrived and the two gentlemen stood with us until we were ready to head to bed for the night. They escorted us to our rooms just incase!
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 @unksol Cool ending to your story - breakfast, concert…
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @unksol those two guys made the night memorable in a very sweet way!!
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 I’m a little thrown on people not recognizing how … Terrifying that could be.
@Felton10 @Kidsandliz @Kyeh @mike808 @unksol literally that is always the take for me. Not just here, these types of situations are never taken seriously.
I should add I was 25 and it was my first international trip. I had never been in such a situation and didn’t know what to do. Although I think even now at close to 50 I would be a little taken back, but I would handle the situation differently for sure.
@Felton10 @Kyeh @mike808 @tinamarie1974 @unksol When I worked in NW England and in Scotland (I was 23-4) I had one near miss hitchhiking from Scotland to London (guy said had I not been a good girl he would have done what he wanted and then let me off, but since I was a good girl he’d just let me off) and I also stayed with strangers on occasion with nothing bad happening. In the Netherlands, where I also worked, I did a lot of hitchhiking and staying with strangers with no issues. In fact hitching to youth hostels I often got picked up by adults who then had me stay at their house and did the tour guide thing. It was so much fun when they did that and I was really lucky. In Germany when I worked doing the same thing the only problem I had was my signs were in german and the young people picking me up were then pisses I was not german or at least canadian. They hated those of us from the USA, although they gave me my ride with no problems. Young and dumb and lucky. What can I say. LOL
BLAME - the TV is full of the upcoming hurricane stuff… Locally we are supposed to get 5-10" of rain (so flash flooding) and winds of 60mph. It is turning into a media event. Come on folks we are not on the coast or even close to it. Those are the folks who will be in deep doo-doo and then some. The grocery stores are emptying out of all sorts of stuff. Ha! If the power goes out people will regret some of what they bought.
The only local group that is going to be in deep shit is the local university hospital with all their covid hospital tents in the parking garages. No place to put those folks indoors. That is a disaster waiting to happen and will not be good. Well and the tons of people are headed this way from the coast so I’d imagine we will have yet another covid spike due to that.
I do have my fingers crossed about the pine tree near my window. It’s roots have been undermined by the foundation work and my end of the building is not supported by soil, just posts. Oh wait. We will have another swimming pool and moat in the making. No gaitors in there yet despite the supervisor of that mess joking he was going to seed them with baby gaitors to keep us from using our new swimming pool.
As a kid I was camping in a tent top trailer on the ocean with 72mph winds back when they didn’t warn us about this (hurricane in eastern north FL that worked its way up the coast) and while the rain felt like knives and 45 gal trash cans were somewhat airborne blowing across the campground. As a kid I thought it was pretty cool/exciting when in the middle of the night the trailer was bouncing up and down and back and forth at the same time. We took it down (beach campsite but up on a dune), drove to town, and sat in an all night eatery freezing our asses off as we were soaked and their A/C was on high. In the morning my parents bought a ton of pop top soda pop (I hate the stuff so my sibs had a good time) as we had to use the pop top to sew them on the tent top since all the snaps tore out and we had to jury rig it for the rest of the summer. Great “what did you do this summer” story for school.
@Kidsandliz Pretty sure our cat-goat isn’t going to take the blame for that, but …
horrible for sure if the hurricane hits the hospital tents!!!
@Kyeh Yeah I know. I worry about those tents also because when wind gets in parking garages it tends to increase the speed and become twisty due to all the things that affect it in there. They can tie them to posts but sure can’t put down giant tent stakes in the cement.
@Kidsandliz
Pretty innovative of your parents to think of using pop can tab rings as replacements for the tent fasteners!
@Kyeh I am pretty sure they have jury rigged many things over the years, but I’d agree. Who would have thought? I am also reasonably sure they were panicked because there is no way they could have afforded a motel room for us.
@Kidsandliz @Kyeh they can absolutely put down tapcons or other concrete anchors. Will they get guidance to actually do it from the state and that they would pay for any damages? Probably not if it’s not already in a disaster plan and tents in a parking garage has to be plan D. Although how did they anchor them in the first place? Concrete anchors are not a big deal and I’ll sure there are plenty with a hammer drill and anchors if they are just now thinking about it.
If the tent supports take a horizontal load from the wind and bend that would collapse a giant tarp on people and be awful up get out…
@Kidsandliz
@Kidsandliz @RogerWilco cat 4 is me in a convertible
@RogerWilco I think cat 5 is the one that you posted earlier in this thread (and I have in the past too) of the cat zooming across the frame turning into/like a giant dust storm.
@Kyeh @unksol Who knows what the hospital/state will do. Competence isn’t the forte of many who work for the government, state, city or many other entities around here.
UNBLAME
Happy 50th anniversary to Mr. & Mrs. @Felton10.
/giphy happy 50th anniversary
@mike808 Thanks-this was the first part of our two part going out to eat today-breakfast. Banana Foster french toast.
@Felton10 Brennan’s is closed today due to Ida. So you will have to celebrate another time with the Real Bananas Foster™.
@Felton10 @mike808
Yep, Bananas Foster is a “necessity is the mother of invention story” for sure
@chienfou @Felton10 @mike808
Bananas Foster
I have never heard of it
Is the goo Maple?
@chienfou @mike808 @replicacobra Don’t know what is in it, but it has lots of cinnamon and sugar. Have had it lots of times for dessert, but this breakfast was more dessert than breakfast to be sure. The toast has peanut butter between the pieces with the syrup and bananas on top.
@Felton10 @mike808 @replicacobra
YUMMM!
@chienfou @Felton10 @replicacobra
The version you have been enjoying is not the OG BF, but “Bananas Foster-inspired French Toast”.
Yours have added PB and are missing liquor and flambé. I’m sure it is tasty, but it is someone’s “take” on Bananas Foster in French Toast form.
Here is the real deal:
The definitive source on Bananas Foster:

@chienfou @Felton10 @mike808 @replicacobra I had this version and it is DELICIOUS!!!
Blame woke up with a splitting migraine today. Somewhat under control and downgraded to a bad headache at this point hoping it goes away soon…
@tinamarie1974
@RogerWilco how did you get q pic of ME!?!?!?
@RogerWilco @tinamarie1974
How to stop a migraine.
@mike808 @RogerWilco what the hell?? Swamps??
@tinamarie1974
Apparently your migraine hasn’t reached the “kill me now” level.
@mike808 @RogerWilco @tinamarie1974
It’s a bog. They’re actually pretty fun.
@mike808 oh no, it has and it did yesterday. I actually see a neurologist because they are so bad. Bah humbug
@mike808 @RogerWilco @ybmuG I have never seen a bog, that is crazy!!
Blame @RogerWilco
I came here to check comments
Missed Instant Regret
@replicacobra
I managed to snag one, hopefully it’s not a box of cat memes.
@replicacobra @RogerWilco congrats!!!
@RogerWilco
I snagged the next IRK
Moments after I blamed you
I will take credit
@replicacobra I too missed IRK. I too agree @rogerwilco is at fault.
@replicacobra
@njfan
A deservedly ex post facto blame for @RogerWilco.
I bet @Walterbird agrees.
Closing out this thread with style.
Meant to come post an unblame since Lowe’s finally had some mowers in locally (OK 20 miles away…) and I was able to buy a Craftsman small radius turn 42" mower at the end of the month. Was about 3 c-notes more than I wanted, but still, at least it’s here, and this thing is a beast. Came with a front bumper, which came in handy when I mowed a couple thousand sq feet of 8 foot tall bamboo in the neighbors yard. She is a renter, and the
landlordslumlord she rents from bulldozed it back last fall (onto another neighbor’s property to boot) and it came back but her regular mowing guy didn’t keep it mowed down since it was already a couple feet tall when he started mowing this spring. I’m hoping if I can keep it at least marginally at bay in her yard it won’t spread past the 3ft deep plastic barrier I have between our yards. It has made an end run past that barrier this season since I couldn’t keep it semi under control, but maybe if it is mowed down frequently enough it won’t be able to sprout that far from the main plant.@chienfou $65 or so and problem solved.
