@sammydog01 i keep a fridge box of baking soda under both seats of my car. my mom does the same but uses a little 80s tupperware thing with holes in the lid. works great, especially since i prefer my home & car to smell like nothing. i don’t care for scented stuff, too overpowering and tends to just mask smells poorly.
@sammydog01 true. and a couple boxes are under a buck at my grocery store so won’t put you out much either.
if it’s really bad, another product i like is this crystal gel stuff - my mom gets it from the container store. it does have a smell at first, kind of a rosemary type thing going on, but it isn’t strong…although i’ve only used it in my apartment so it might be more noticeable in a confined space like a car, i don’t know. but mostly it hangs out absorbing smells without smelling like anything. then after awhile the ‘crystals’ just all dry up and disappear. https://www.containerstore.com/s/fresh-wave-crystal-gel/d?productId=10023042&q=fresh wave
it’s expensive, no two ways about it, but i really like it. i do see that same brand now has ‘pearl packs’ as well as a spray for less $, but i’ve not tried them. (we went on a binge of trying various freshening agents awhile back because our downstairs neighbors decided they wanted to smoke skunk weed all day and night and my landlord was too scared to evict them.)
@jerk_nugget Yeah, that is expensive. But, now is the time for me to confess my love of kyara. http://imgur.com/a/NwKPe
A small box of this stuff, made by minorien, set’s me back $95. But agarwood is a fascinating hobby of mine. When I was laid up and couldn’t move for a few years, this was one of my few joys.Seems like a little incense and some deep meditation was the only thing that would make me forget about the pain for awhile. Yep, I spent a lot of money a few years on incense.
I never heard of The Container Store.
@wew i’m glad you found something to help you during that time. i remember visiting my friend’s FIL who had debilitating MS. he could hardly move or eat because of the pain. it was the little things that might make his day better even for a short time. worth it!
and the container store sells, well, containers. home organization type things, mostly. i’ve only shopped online or had it sent to the store and then my mom picks it up for me and i get it from her when i visit. too dangerous for me to actually go into a store, i love that sort of thing.
@communist True story: I have a 30 year old lawn mower that started smoking after I changed the oil with “lawn mower” oil. I then replaced it with 5-30 synthetic and it doesn’t smoke at all! I’m gonna start using it in my cars.
@Kyser_Soze@teh_chris I drive a CX-5 and Mazda requires 0W-20 for the Skyactiv engines. They only recommend Castrol or their own which is likely just rebranded Castrol. With the tech and tolerances in that engine I’m not particularly comfortable using any other brands. Considering the oil and filter together run about $35 for me to buy and the dealership always runs an oil change special for $40, it’s well worth letting them do it.
@cinoclav CX-5 driver here, but I switched to Mobil 1. No issues so far. Watch the dealership oil changes–they love to fill it up with a standard 5 qts, but the engine takes a smidge under 5. The guy at my dealership tried to tell me it held 6.5 qts!
I love my stinking house. Funk is free, and febreze Clean Linen ain’t, plus I love to hold my hands under my armpits & like the SNL girl, pull them out, and sniff them good to get that buzz.
Am I reading the specs right… holds 200ml but uses 150ml a hour… so you have to refill every hour and half! I would have to quit my job just to have the house smell…different!
Yep, a week to the day after I got a wood-look diffuser through Amazon for our new porch at about the same price. FML. I wanted the USB diffuser as well, so I guess I could use one in my office.
@sammydog01 Yes - I have some el-cheapos that I got on Amazon and this is a decidedly better-looking although equally effective diffuser. I have a cheap one in the bedroom and one in a guest room for “aromatherapy” (go ahead, judge - I find it useful and it may very well be entirely psychosomatic but if it works for me, who cares), and the one on the porch to freshen the air.
I’m not going to plug it in to my center console in my Ford. That’s just asking for trouble, mixing old milkshake with fresh essential oils. I’ll have all the hippies in my yard.
@InnocuousFarmer i use mostly peppermint oil in mine. get the real deal and they won’t be disgusting. (i found a set at my parents they weren’t using and asked if i could have it - turned out to be some cheapo chemical scents. could not clean out the diffuser fast enough!)
I actually wanted a diffuser! But then I learned that many essential oils are actually toxic to cats because their bodies can’t process them like ours can. Damn cats sure know how to ruin everything.
dammit! i got all excited when i saw a play on ‘aromatherapy’ in the email and rushed over here thinking it was essential oils. oh well. i already have two diffusers. (we have the quooz lull and like them very much. use them literally almost constantly.)
I’ll stick to incense. I like it better than anything else because it’s cheap, and I don’t have to worry about anything being plugged in or a candle to catch the house on fire.
@wew is that a burn on carpet or something? I burn my incense inside a stone box. Unless the incense opens the lid and jumps out, there’s no way for it to burn anything.
@RiotDemon yeap, it’s a carpet burn from a incense stick falling out. I put “play sand” in different ornate things I use for burners. I was reading in another room and thought “That’s the worse smelling incense I ever bought”. If I would have just gotten up i would have realized the scent was
"burning carpet". complete negligence on my part…and it couldn’t be in a more obvious part of my house.(20 or more years ago, I did the same thing with a soldering iron on carpet in an apartment I was renting…bumped the cord, while I was reading some instructions and when I looked back a beautiful silhouette of my soldering iron etched in the carpet…

@jerk_nugget I will give that a try. Can’t make it worse.

@sammydog01 probably the dead body.
@jerk_nugget Yeah, that is expensive. But, now is the time for me to confess my love of kyara. http://imgur.com/a/NwKPe

I never heard of The Container Store.
@akparker777 I’ll go check the trunk.
@wew Oh, man, I hope you’re OK now. Cool incense.
@jerk_nugget Why on earth do your cars smell so bad?
@Skotyman my car doesn’t smell like anything, and i like to keep it that way.
@wew i’m glad you found something to help you during that time. i remember visiting my friend’s FIL who had debilitating MS. he could hardly move or eat because of the pain. it was the little things that might make his day better even for a short time. worth it!

OK Google, make it smell nice.
ew
A friend asked if they could put liquid weed in these. Anyone know?
@mike808 Sure, go for it. But you’d probably be wasting good weed, man.
@mike808 unless you suck on the end or put it in a really small room, no.
“essential oils” like 10w30?
@Kyser_Soze im more of a 0w-40
@communist euro driver or diesel driver?
Or both?
@communist True story: I have a 30 year old lawn mower that started smoking after I changed the oil with “lawn mower” oil. I then replaced it with 5-30 synthetic and it doesn’t smoke at all! I’m gonna start using it in my cars.

@Kyser_Soze Actually 5W-20 is more essential nowadays…Still not sure I’d try to diffuse it in one of these beauties though!
@cinoclav wew! I had an old rx-7 (license plate ‘funnn’), with a wankle engine. lasted forever. Mazda’s still doing things differently, I guess.
I thought these were Aromadocks…
So close to buying one…

@therealjrn And it has a night light.
Love the diffuser volcano range.
This is still a thing?
Well, the big one can run on 220 volts.
@RedOak All the big ones do.
@therealjrn you’re welcome.
mega-yikes, come on meh, this is rudely expensive for one of these.
@thechinglish “rudely expensive” …I like that.
Swing and a miss meh.
You think your house smells fine but it really smells like…
/giphy kitty litter box
Is that really your selling point? Oy Meh!
Jokes on me huh giphy? Well fine-
/image used kitty litter box
At least image gets me…F you giphy.
@WTFsunshine I would smell that tiger. Living dangerously.
@WTFsunshine (koff koff. Someone’s got to do this)
More like ‘smelling point’.
did I miss the pics for this?
Meh trying to diffuse this situation –
I love my stinking house. Funk is free, and febreze Clean Linen ain’t, plus I love to hold my hands under my armpits & like the SNL girl, pull them out, and sniff them good to get that buzz.

For those who want a smaller diffuser (and pay a buck less): Groupon link here
Yep, a week to the day after I got a wood-look diffuser through Amazon for our new porch at about the same price. FML. I wanted the USB diffuser as well, so I guess I could use one in my office.
@LinnE Do you like it?
@sammydog01 Yes - I have some el-cheapos that I got on Amazon and this is a decidedly better-looking although equally effective diffuser. @LinnE it’s amazing how often that happens. these esoteric objects and someone often says “I just bought one last week”.
I got these earbuds last time, and they are way too big for my ear canals. And I have gigantic ear canals!!
@PocketBrain try putting these diffusers in your ears.
I’m not going to plug it in to my center console in my Ford. That’s just asking for trouble, mixing old milkshake with fresh essential oils. I’ll have all the hippies in my yard.
Finally something ladylike and it sucks.
@cholula are those two things mutually exclusive?
Man hates all “scents” sold for scenty purposes. They smell terrible, and probably stick to your walls, and give you sinus congestion!
Better to smell coffee, or a garage. Or even the “out-side”.
@InnocuousFarmer i use mostly peppermint oil in mine. get the real deal and they won’t be disgusting. (i found a set at my parents they weren’t using and asked if i could have it - turned out to be some cheapo chemical scents. could not clean out the diffuser fast enough!)

@Avalora Just kidding

@jerk_nugget Go to Groupon they sell all types of essential oils-just check on the brand names first -some are better than others.
I’ll stick to incense. I like it better than anything else because it’s cheap, and I don’t have to worry about anything being plugged in or a candle to catch the house on fire.
@RiotDemon are you sure about that? http://imgur.com/a/S7edQ

Doesn’t this happen to everyone??
@wew I can’t say I’ve ever burnt the floor. I have tile in the main area of my house, so I’m good now.
What happened to good deals? It’s $39 on Amazon with free shipping, not $55.
@yohaves Our deal is the PureSpa Diffuser and a USB Diffuser. About $55 would be the cost of this diffuser and the USB through Amazon.
@ThomasF ahhh, good point - that slipped past me. And awesome that you actually read these things!
