Puerto Rico here I come!
25The lady and I are taking a trip down to Puerto Rico next week to get away for a bit, disconnect from reality, and go on a few adventures. We found a really sweet place on airbnb that is about an hour and a half outside of San Juan in a little town called Quebradillas that is super secluded and has a private beach a few feet away. Needless to say, I can't wait.
We've looked around and are likely going to check out one of the bioluminescent bays, take in some kick ass nature hikes to discover some of the beautiful waterfalls, and I'd like to do a little deep sea fishing and to try to catch a marlin. We haven't actually booked anything yet, we prefer to wake up and figure out what we're in the mood for that day rather than have a strict schedule that we have to keep up with. Anything that we absolutely must do while we are there?
Oh, and I promise not to leave when I get back like the last person that went on vacation....

Fun!
Don't forget to relax! Also, eat. That's SUPER important.
@DaveInSoCal I like food.
Have a wonderful time, eat spectacular seafood, shop local markets. You probably want to get your National Park Service passes before you leave so you don't spend time waiting in line there. This looks helpful. http://www.elyunque.com/explore.htm
@OldCatLady Great idea. We are actually staying on the Western side for most of the trip but are going to jump over to San Juan for the last 2 nights of the trip. This should be super helpful!
Thank you for promising to come back and not immediately run away like someone.
Have fun!!
@Thumperchick
@MEHcus
And while @MEHcus is gone their might be some happy dancing going on in Texas.
Only because we're so darn happy for him of course.
@Mehcus I would love to hear about your trip...especially how well you stick to any budget you may currently have. I have anxiety about not booking all plans because I hate unexpected expenses...
@tightwad Thankfully neither of us are big worriers. We've got a pretty good idea of the activities we'd like to do so, it's just a matter of figuring on which days we want to do them on. We get to fly free through her work benefits so that opens up our budget tremendously.
@tightwad......wanting to know about your budget! :-) good intel though...
Sun Block!!!! Lot's of sun block.
@Teripie
@MEHcus Don't be this guy.......
@MEHcus or if you are that guy, we want to see the pictures of you in a Speedo.
@beachbum I'll pass on the speedo picture thank you.
Have fun! I'm still really hurt that I'm not invited but super excited and happy for you two! Love ya!
@melindakirksey Since he's leaving you behind, feel free to head over to the Not Today or Take Me Away posts Anna come with us on a little trip!
@melindakirksey This would be the perfect time time lay on the guilt for upcoming holiday dinners. ;)
Have a wonderful trip. And remember.....

@mfladd
@mehcus
Did you say "Quesadillas"?
@katylava I exclusively refer to it as such
@katylava That's Mexican, ya goof! When in PR, go traditional: Asopao de pollo, tostones con mojo, y pasteles! Although, I prefer Cuban food. More fat, more pork. Guess that's because I'm now "Cuban by injection" as my husband puts it.
Pictures. We want pictures. When you get back of course. You are unplugging from work while you are gone, right?
Is Mediocre one of those unlimited vacation type of jobs?
I am also leaving for vacation so I will have to wait to check out your trip.
@speediedelivery I'll definitely snap a few pictures to share with the crew when I get back.
But yes, I'll totally be unplugging - for the most part - from work while I'm gone. I imagine she'll make sure of that.
And no, we're not one of those. @Snapster is such a tyrant and makes us come to work.
@MEHcus - have fun, refer to the previous Puerto Rico thread for my advice whilst visiting. Safe travels!
Ooooo - taking your relationship to the next level - seeing each other in swimsuits!
Mofongo. Eat some mofongo.
@AnnaB What did you just call me?
@MEHcus Trust me on this.
There's an observatory about 45 minutes (I'm guessing) from where you'll be that a friend has told me is THE place to go check out around there.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arecibo_Observatory
@Bingo Yep that is one of the things on our list that we may go check out. I'm a sucker for space stuff.
We had a saying at an old job that "no vacation goes unpunished," and after what someone pulled with his last vacation... be ready.
@jqubed at meh, they pass the punishment on to the customers... prepare for the mehcus vacation tax all next week. ;)
@thismyusername How else do you think I could afford to go on a vacation?
So who's in charge of the forum ? @moose ? @hollboll ? @dave ? We need to know who to bother the most.
Have a nice trip.
You might want to consider signing up to follow the various tagged sharks that report in on twitter. Then you will know when it's ok to go in the water. But just so you know, if you follow them, they will follow you back, so there's that.
@ceagee Yep the three of them and @galmaegi will all be keeping an eye on things next week while I'm out.
As far as sharks go, I hear if you punch them in the nose they will just leave you alone so that's my plan.
@ceagee You can bother me if you can spell my name correct.
Drop hints about any major life events you have coming up and you could come back to an office full of crap like that last guy. @MEHcus' mediocre __ registry.
Then again, that didn't work out so well for us last time. Never mind.
@christinewas Ah yes, I could always use some more spit balls, poop emojis and apple flavored lubes.
Just a thought: do you have an EpiPen? I didn't know until I tried them that I'm allergic to conch fritters as served locally. No other shellfish, bivalve or gastropod- just conch. Hunting down a local ER/doctor is not fun.
If you are staying in Quebradillas you have some cool stuff near you. You can go to the observatory where the movie Contact, James Bond Golden Eye had some scenes recorded. Its about 30 minutes from you. At about 40-45 minutes depending on traffic there are the Caverns of Rio Camuy which are really cool. Now if you want to have the best mofongo food of all the area go to El Buen Mofongo De Doña Rosa. Its about 30 minutes from Quebradillas. Just set your GPS to this address:
Carr.2 Km 68.2, Bo. Santana, Arecibo 00612. You wont regret it!

If you have enough time you can go to do some kayaking in the Fajardo bioluminescent bay. Its about 30 minutes further than San Juan but its worth it. Its really cool to see the water glowing green in a pitch black night! Mare sure there is no full moon. I hope you have a good time. Enjoy!
