Here is a video of my buddy who goes by the name of Siho (Shee-ho). Part time pro-wrestler, full time ROK warrant officer. He got to wrestle for a short time on a visit to America.
@stryper2000 Your video didn’t include the part where Mankind tooth came out his noise and he fell through the fence onto some tacks. Probably one of the greatest and most dangerous matches of all time.
I don’t watch wrestling, but I agree that pointing out “it’s fake” is a “duh” statement that mostly seems like a petty way to disparage the wrestling fan. Even the geekiest nerd doesn’t need to be told “Batman is fake”. However, as long as you have some fans that seem so resistant to the “fake” label ( “its not fake, it’s just scripted” or “the outcomes are predetermined, but its not fake” ), you are going to get people that roll their eyes at wrestling fans.
I have a neighbor that game me this kernel of wisdom: “Pro wrestlers have gotten some pretty serious injuries in the ring, how can that be fake?” What kind of dumb-@$$ logic is that? So if Eddie Redmayne gets a sprained ankle while making a Fantastic Beasts movie, that means he is a real wizard?
@DrWorm Well yeah eventually it comes down to people hate to see people enjoying stuff they dislike. For instance I like to watch esports like Overwatch, but people love to say “well it’s not a real sport.” Well yeah, no shit. I still like to watch it, anything else I can help you deal with? Maybe go try and find a hobby or something you enjoy rather than crapping on someone else.
@DrWorm@medz Yeah. I’m not even really much of a wrestling fan, but I don’t think “fake” is the right term.
Another comparison would be Jackie Chan’s famous pole slide in Police Story. He jumped off a ledge 30-40 feet in the air onto a pole suspended from the ceiling, wrapped in lit lightbulbs and slid down, dropping off the end which dangled above the ground.
It was actually him, it was a real pole in a real pole covered in real lightbulbs in a real shopping mall, and there really was no safety net. But he was not actually in the middle of an armed confrontation with criminals when he did it.
Fake?

@DrWorm a comparison to Cirque du Soleil would be better. Real athletic feats and choreographed performance.

@DrWorm Batman? Fake? Take it back…take it back, right now!
@mfladd
It was fake when my grandmother watched it well over 50 years ago. Nothing’s changed.
