Check out the Grantland interview with Elwes. I just assumed he was a Hollywood jerk, former leading man who would be bitter about his reduced status. Turns out I'm the jerk. Seems like a really cool guy, humble, still in awe of everyone he's ever worked with and appreciative of a charmed life.
@Outofmymind If you want original material, watch indie flicks. Also a lot of foreign films. We are movie afficionados, so we see them all. Over the holidays we saw the Hobbit marathon, Big Hero 6, Night at the Museum, Annie, Into the Woods, Mockingjay, the Babadook, and Big Eyes in the theater. The Imitation Game and Exodus are still on our "to do" list.
@Outofmymind In fact, Hollywood was churning out recycled shit when Princess Bride came out. And there are, as @moondrake suggests, still some good and original movies out there. Reiner just happened to hit the jackpot.
@joelmw Ya it went far beyond just TPB, I often find myself enjoying plain simple movies as much as "blockbusters" but you don't even see the old type of blockbusters anymore either. Things like The Goonies, Gremlins, Poltergeist, Alien(s), Rambo, Terminator,original Star Wars, Back to the future. It's all the same movie anymore, same plot, same CGI, same drippy love story thrown in most of the time for no reason. Even oldies like Time Bandits, Ice Pirates and others that were "crap" to me are better than 90% of the garbage thrown at us today that still rakes in a billion at the box office. I guess I need to drop Showtime/HBO/Starz and pick up Netflix again, they had a lot of indie films like Iron Sky I loved.
@JonT Having been my high school's and then my college's resident Blake freak, I was also a less ardent fan of Northrup Frye. He proposes something quite similar. Plot is really the least of literary devices. I'm more an imagery man myself. The juxtapositions and texture are virtually endless.
@joelmw I'm all about character. That's why I like series better than stand-alones. If I like a character enough to spend time with them, I want our acquaintance to last more than 2 hours.
@moondrake Yeah, character is important--especially in TV. And I maybe prefer a touch of villainy or at least rogueishness; really what I want is intelligence and creativity and I can tolerate a bit of evil if I get the other two. I get a serious broner for Francis Underwood. The wife thinks he's beyond despicable.
This movie has so many best lines, best moments, reusable clips, it's hard to pick one. I already had two copies (one was a collector's edition), after bequeathing one to my kid. I found it on sale Black Friday and now I have a loaner.
As you wish
Haven't you seen enough movies for one day?
@hallmike Princess Bride!
Use this way too much in my life.
@oppodude I think perhaps what you mean is that it's way too applicable.
@joelmw Potato, potato.
My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
@SSteve Meh-ntoya?
@SSteve
@moondrake Love it!
Meh-widge
@SSteve is what bwings us togevver today
@SSteve Okay, I'm slow. I see what you did there. Finally.
No more rhymes now, I mean it!
@jsh139 anybody want a peanut?
@jsh139 I think there was a time when this line was uttered at least once a week in my household. :-)
I'm not a witch, I'm your wife!
@katylava I love this! It never gets old.
Since it's just one movie and didn't have sequels, I wonder what they'll fill the rest of the time with.
@Starblind maybe they'll read the book out loud while doing an impression of Peter Falk
@Starblind Same thing as the Christmas Story movie. Play it over and over and over.....
@Starblind 25th Anny blu-Ray just came out. Has got like 18 hours of featurettes. So might use some of that.
@katylava They could do that, but that would be... just... one more thing.
@lisaviolet that's a great way to reduce the the Populations

@saodell and unlike some robin hoods, he can speak with a British accent.
Little piece of useless trivia. Did you know that Chris Sarandon, who plays Humperdinck, was Susan Sarandon's first husband? Married in 1967.
@lisaviolet And the six-fingered man is Jamie Lee Curtis' husband, Christopher Guest. (He is 5th Baron Haden-Guest and she Lady Haden-Guest.)
@LaVikinga this one goes to eleven!
Meh-rathon. Sheesh
@Cinoclav - now I get it!
Whatever happened to these kind of movies. You know, back before Hollywood just recycled everything and/or rebooted the existing movie a dozen times.
@Outofmymind it really was a book first, though not by the fictional S. Morgenstern

@Outofmymind Also, Shakespeare stole most or all of his stories.

Remember, the proper way to say it is, "Incontheebabble!"
Have fun stormin da castle! One of the best lines in the movie.

It got to the point that I just put up images of "you keep using that word" and "get used to disappointment" on my wall. Now I just point.
"Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."
"I hate waiting"
"What I wouldn't give for a holocaust cloak."
