@djslack me too. Our thermostat is junk, so needed replaced anyway. May as well go big. Not sure what’ll I’ll plug into the outlet. (disco ball?) I also got the cheap toilet paper through Alexa.

@djslack I got two TP Link smart outlets. There must’ve been a glitch, because it applied my $10 off $20 item to it, so I got one for $5 and one for $15.

@DaveInSoCal That was a good glitch because I tried to order a second one and it was $30. One deal per Alexa.

@djslack Check your local gas/electric company - mine is giving a $100 rebate for buying Nest or Ecobee3 (I went with Ecobee) - up to 2 units. So I’ll be getting a $200 check soon!

@luvche21 unfortunately no such luck. The electric company gives all kinds of rebates but only as direct payment to contractors, no rebates for diy stuff. Gas company doesn’t even have an option for my state on their rebates page. Found another state and they’re only offering $25 for thermostats anyway. But it’s definitely worth checking into, some places have good ones.

@DaveInSoCal I’ve considered it, but I don’t like the idea of yelling across my house for things I can just look up on my phone.

@capguncowboy lol. It doesn’t seem as terrible at first glance as last year’s set. Seemed like lots of 30-50% off on reasonably mainstream items, less miniscule discounts on crap. At least from the 15 minutes I spent scrolling through.

@ACraigL hmmm… if only I could use a coupon on the Alexa purchase of the Ecobee, I’d cancel and reorder on my fiancee’s card.

@medz @djslack Just to clarify, it doesn’t have to be a single item of that value. Any purchase with a total of $150 or more earns the discount.

@lichme @ACraigl I tried the echoism.io app and set it all up. Tried to buy the griddler. It found it but came back with an 89.95 price. Ah well. It was a cool experiment.

@sammydog01 I bought two of them (and already had 1). They’re AWESOME! “Alexa, turn on the living room light.”

I’m using one for a rotating fan as soon as it comes, and the third is pending some kind of genius idea.

The plugs themselves also have a fairly extensive app that lets you name each one, assign to groups (ie. “Movie mode” could turn off the one hooked to lights and turn on the one attached to the TV). It also has a “vacation” setting that will randomly turn the light on and off during a preset time period so it looks like people are home.

@DaveInSoCal My second dot is coming at the end of the month and I plan on using it for a bedroom lamp. They sound very cool.
