@PocketBrain Amen! So far this year, I’ve taken 3 days off for my wife’s Grandmother’s funeral, then took 3 days off because I caught a flu bug & couldn’t leave the bathroom!! Other than that I took 1/2 day to go to a Senatorial campaign rally for a guy that I’m lukewarm to in the first place…Kevin Cramer
@moonhat@PocketBrain I see where you’re going there! No, I can state with 100% accuracy that I’m not Kevin Cramer.
I’m just a political junkie, and when I get a chance, I like to attend these events. Being in “flyover” country, we’re often skipped by the major political parties candidates. That said I’ve actually attended rallies for quite a variety of politicians…Walter Mondale, Ross Perot, Dick Cheney, Paul Wellstone, George Bush, Barack Obama, & now Donald Trump (w/ Kevin Cramer) just to name a few…
@PocketBrain@tohar1 you ARE quite a political junkie, aren’t you? I can hardly handle skimming the voters guide for selecting my choices, without dying of boredom.
I have greatly enjoyed traveling abroad, but not usually for “vacation”. More mission trip ministry building, but it’s not really “work” either . My wife prefers to stay in the country. So my answer depends on the person with whom I am traveling. So my two favorites, Glacier NP in Montana and Laos was surprising interesting and welcoming.
@enville more people need to emulate you. I’ve done the same and it’s remarkably fulfilling. I’ll take any type of vacation, but the mission trips are the best.
staying at my parents for a few days over xmas (& i would/used to stay longer)
my partner and i’s annual beach vacation where we go to a local beach town for a few days each summer and relax but also explore
the idea of traveling abroad with my partner to iceland or something, although it hasn’t happened yet; or not abroad but ‘just’ across the country to do something like dcon or sdcc.
I’m mixed. I can definitely just find some sand and a drink and hang out. There is a definite appeal to that just catching a taxi in and then walking around no rentals or buses etc to worry about. But I also get terrible wanderlust after a while and need to be or see somewhere new or that I haven’t been to in a while. I love seeing the family and friends as well but with live being so short and the world being so large I have a hard time trying to balance that.
Staying home or going abroad. Preferably with two sticks on my feet and some steep, snowy hills to slide down. Two trips planned this winter. Utah and Val d’Isere, France. Pic below was this past winter in Ischgl, Austria.
@cinoclav I think the closest place to go is in New Mexico or Arizona? Not sure I haven’t been skiing in Texas. I used for have fairly available skiing options in Massachusetts.
@Targaryen I’ve been to Taos and Angel Fire in New Mexico. If you’re a good skier, Taos is heaven. If it’s been a long time and you’re a bit hesitant, Angel Fire is a fun mountain to get your legs back.
@compunaut@Targaryen No arguments here. I loved both too. Had some amazing food in Taos. We drove down one day and explored Bandelier National Monument. Climbed up to all the cave dwellings. Just had an awesome all around trip there.
My wife and I are at opposite ends of the spectrum. She likes going to tropical locales and sleeping until 2 PM every day and then spending the day lying on the beach drinking cocktails between meals. I don’t really care for the beach, but I am up for pretty much anything as long we are doing something (hopefully fun and/or interesting). I can sleep 16 hours a day at home for free. Spending a huge amount on travel expenses to do nothing drives me crazy. In terms of stress, compared to work, it is probably about a dead heat.

@shahnm
Then you do the Hokie Pokie and you turn your self around.
@jst1ofknd Who has time for that sort of thing?!?
@shahnm Do you have a refrigerator at work? Then the fun doesn’t have to stop when you leave home!
@awk I do indeed, but I wouldn’t want to mix business with pleasure…
@shahnm A message from your batteries:
@shahnm There is no transferring them from one fridge to the other?
@rtjhnstn That would be a little like crossing the beams.
@shahnm You’re repeating yourself.
Vegetate
@hchavers You really need to use more words.
What’s a “vacation?”
@PocketBrain Amen! So far this year, I’ve taken 3 days off for my wife’s Grandmother’s funeral, then took 3 days off because I caught a flu bug & couldn’t leave the bathroom!! @PocketBrain @tohar1 you ARE quite a political junkie, aren’t you? I can hardly handle skimming the voters guide for selecting my choices, without dying of boredom.
Drag my hotel room somewhere woodsy and flop.
Travel to meet ‘face to face’ people I’ve never met but who have saved my life and made it worth living.
@Kaydee1958 Story?
@Kaydee1958 Yeah, this sounds like it has a good backstory.
Snowboarding somewhere, the opposite of beach-y
To go home and visit family is to go somewhere beachy when they live all over Florida.
I have greatly enjoyed traveling abroad, but not usually for “vacation”. More mission trip ministry building, but it’s not really “work” either . My wife prefers to stay in the country. So my answer depends on the person with whom I am traveling. So my two favorites, Glacier NP in Montana and Laos was surprising interesting and welcoming.

all of the above. i like:
@jerk_nugget also for us “beachy” is new england beachy. i dislike tropical beaches/vacations.
I’m mixed. I can definitely just find some sand and a drink and hang out. There is a definite appeal to that just catching a taxi in and then walking around no rentals or buses etc to worry about. I love seeing the family and friends as well but with live being so short and the world being so large I have a hard time trying to balance that.
I’ll take all of the above and add mission trips to it. I’ll vacation any way any time.
Yes.
Staying home or going abroad. Preferably with two sticks on my feet and some steep, snowy hills to slide down. Two trips planned this winter. Utah and Val d’Isere, France. Pic below was this past winter in Ischgl, Austria.
@cinoclav Got room for me in your luggage?
@compunaut If you don’t mind sharing the space with my skis!
@cinoclav I haven’t gone skiing in forever.
@Targaryen Forever is too long. Get your butt out there!
@cinoclav @Targaryen Taos (both town and ski area): Probably in my top 5 places anywhere.
@compunaut @Targaryen No arguments here. I loved both too. Had some amazing food in Taos. We drove down one day and explored Bandelier National Monument. Climbed up to all the cave dwellings. Just had an awesome all around trip there.
