Poor way to run a company
1I viewed the product, the drone, and decided to buy a couple.
Selected the color and proceeded to the check out to pay for it. That was when I received notification that I cannot complete the sale because they wouldn’t ship it to ALASKA.
I think that this is not a very good way to treat a customer.

You’ve ordered a dozen other things, I assume successfully. Maybe they can’t ship lithium batteries to Alaska because of shipping restrictions.
They save turning down money for fun for Canadians and other foreigners.
@djslack good call. Maybe he could get a bunch of friends together and fly it up there 500ft at a time…
This isn’t a Meh issue THIS time. Kohl’s has this listed on their site for the drone…
This product is an unmanned aircraft, which may be subject to federal, state and local laws and regulations. Prior to operation of this product, please ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, which may include registration with the FAA.
Due to its contents, this product cannot be shipped via our Priority Service or sent to Alaska, Hawaii, P.O. boxes, and/or APO/FPO military addresse
This seems like a poor way to address the issue, if you ask me.
the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few (or one)
@fastharrydotcom I have been, and always shall be, your friend.
In the spirit of international brotherly love, I’d like to wish all the other countries especially Alaska a Happy Holiday Season!
@therealjrn Damn foreigners! They’re trying to overrun America into a whole bunch of people who dont look like me! I’ll be outnumbered, and worse, outvoted!
@mike808 Hey now, Alaskans are welcome here just like any other foreign country. They just need to follow the immigration rules OK? Is that too much to ask?
you’re an all-star
@therealjrn Don’t forget that other country on our southern border, New Mexico.
@blaineg @therealjrn My mom subscribed to New Mexico magazine (she was born and raised there). It included a monthly feature called “One Of Our Fifty Is Missing” with stories from readers of encounters with folks who did not know that NM was part of the USA (at places like DMV, USPS, Social Security etc.) Funny stuff.
@blaineg @macromeh SMH, that’s just nuts.
@macromeh @therealjrn How many of the 50 states have “USA” stamped on their license plates?
@macromeh @therealjrn

Gotta keep those illegal New Mexicans out!
@blaineg @macromeh
Um…one?
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I used to live in Hawaii. Many things I wanted to order could not be shipped there. I moved.
Pretty sure this is more about the fact that the Li-Poly battery has to ship ground and to get to Alaska it would have to end up in the air. So if it’s a poor way to run a company talk to FedEx, UPS or USPS. In the case of the last please talk to Congress. You won’t get anywhere though it’s Congress and they are all morons.
@bleedmichigan you can drive to Alaska. Just have to go through Canada and some ferries. Super cheap.
@RiotDemon pretty sure that UPS, FedEx, and USPS do not drive through Canada to get to Alaska You are correct though it’s a beautiful drive.
@bleedmichigan but don’t you know? Meh should totally pay for someone to drive there since Alaska is part of the 50 states. It doesn’t matter that it might as well be in Russia.
@RiotDemon yes of course especially for a $20 item.
@bleedmichigan @RiotDemon Could also ship by rail! (Well, soon.)
@RiotDemon one of my friend’s employees a few years back expressed incredulity at someone’s description of a road trip they took to Alaska. She just kept acting weirder and weirder about it until finally my friend asked her what was wrong. She said “you can’t drive to Alaska…”
They went back and forth for a minute with my friend getting more confused. Finally she asked her “You do know where Alaska is, right?”
Her employee responded “Yes. It’s in the box down by Hawaii.”

@djslack @RiotDemon OMG. Sigh. We need to teach more geography in in K-12 not just more practical/applied math and science. Some of the things some of the things some college students say are equally cringe worthy.
@djslack @RiotDemon Imagine those miles and miles of arrow-straight north-south coastline on the eastern side…
@bleedmichigan @RiotDemon
Me! Me! Send me! I’ve always wanted to do the AlCan Highway.
Mmm USPS has specific instructions for this and it’s an installed battery so should be good for air.

Local drone regulations also seem fine.
Lithium metal and lithium-ion cells and batteries installed in or packed with equipment are mailable via air or surface transportation.
Lithium-ion (or lithium polymer) batteries may be mailed, in limited quantities, via air transportation when both shipped from, and intended for delivery to, the state of Alaska under 349.222.
Except as provided above, individual lithium metal (or lithium alloy) and lithium-ion (or lithium polymer) batteries (without equipment) are mailable in limited quantities via surface transportation only, provided the batteries are in the originally sealed packaging, and packaged and marked as described in 349.221 and 349.222, as applicable.
Either way if meh can’t ship it to a normally available state. it would be nice to have that notice in the product description line like casemates. If you have to code it into the backend to reject than that is known. But either way it’s not meh’s fault if your state is a dick
@unksol it doesn’t appear to be installed it appears to be removable.
@bleedmichigan @unksol I had an issue getting a BBQ cover sent to me in AL from Home Depot one time. Seems they “couldn’t ship to AL, AK, HI”. When I called to verify they were unable to tell me why it was so, it just was.
To this day I believe it was because someone f’ed up the coding and thought that AL was Alaska…
@chienfou @unksol possibly or perhaps they were not a distributor in Al strange but possible.
@bleedmichigan @unksol
Doubt that was it since Home Depot sends me stuff all the time. It was just that product.
@bleedmichigan @chienfou @unksol I used to try about once a year, but I have never had a successful online transaction with Home Depot. Something major always goes wrong.
@bleedmichigan @Limewater @unksol I don’t often order on-line from them, usually go to the brick-n-mortar. They are my go to for cordless tools (Ryobi has used the same format battery pack in dozens of tools for the past 20+ yrs., first as NiCad and now Li-ion,but they are all interchangable if you pick a voltage to build around)
Plus I prefer the quality of their lumber to Lowe’s
But I have gotten numerous orders with little trouble… beside that one item.
@bleedmichigan i would consider it installed. But if you want to argue that point. “installed in or packed with equipment”
It’s definitely packed with the intended equipment. Inside it.
@bleedmichigan @chienfou @unksol
But that would mean we have TWO Alaskas.
@blaineg @bleedmichigan @chienfou there’s the one up top and the one in the box.
@Czynkqa Poor way to run a company? Shit, it’s downright mediocre!
Look on the bright side, shipping logistics saved you $30
Have you tried leaving Alaska ?
@Rebelfixed You can’t leave Alaska, it’s in a box
@geekahedron @Rebelfixed You know how a lot of USA maps show white voids where Canada & Mexico are?
UK maps do that to the Republic of Ireland. Northern Ireland exists, but Eire is blanked out.
@geekahedron @Rebelfixed
/giphy Alaska box
your situation made me think of this…
I’d take a Meh job at a mediocre company most any day.
“I think that this is not a very good way to treat a customer.”
if you haven’t bought anything, are you really a customer yet?
Does amazon prime 2 day shipping work where you live?
@riceatusc not that we it had anything to do with anything
