@SKostohryz these aren’t powered. So if you have a surround receiver and connect these to that, yes. But without an amp, these are just decent sounding paperweights.
@Dizavid so tired of this bitching. You were always supposed to pay tax. You just were a dick and didn’t. Your state stopped you from being a dick. It has absolutely nothing to do with meh. If you don’t like your states sales tax take it up with then.
@The_Tim same, replaced my tiny L/R speakers in my 5.1 system with them. It’s now decently more full bodied, and I was able to drop my crossover to take a little strain off my subwoofer. Watching Stranger Things has been a treat with these.
Damn you, meh! Stop offering deals like this!
These might as well sit on the floor with the rest of the unfinished projects I haven’t gotten around to completing yet
But could you please offer a small amp that would power these tomorrow night? Thanks.
@mfladd This might fit your needs.
I use one for a TV and another for the garage.
No frills, just works. Some say you might want a better power supply to avoid clipping at the high volume levels.
@G1 Thank you. I was looking at this one too as it is bluetooth. It could connect to both the television, and alexa for volume control. The reviews say it is alexa compatible. Thoughts?
Damn, I need yet another pair of speakers like I need a hole in my inflatable head…but these seem to be pretty well-liked, and $44 shipped is a really good price for something from Polk Audio. Plus, it’s an excuse to try a fully modern pair of speakers and compare them to my vintage stuff. We’ll see how these stack up against a similarly sized vintage pair of Polks…the Monitor 4B.
@PooltoyWolf That’s funny, it sounded familiar, and I checked my garage and sure enough I have a pair of Monitor 4 (not 4B) from the 1980’s. I checked some forums and apparently those are still well-regarded and people still seek them. The early version ones had a round black dome tweeter, the later ones had a plastic top with three spokes, that was apparently not as good according to some audio guys (and you know how cranky audio guys can be).
In any case I’m sure I paid a lot more than $39 for those speakers, and that was 1980s dollars.
I expect these would be pretty good especially for this price, though I’d guess that the originals will probably be better.
@pmarin Yes, the 4Bs are the later revision of the original Monitor 4. Mine are 4Bs, which still have a dome tweeter, but as you said they are protected by a cover over the dome. These were purchased new by my parents as add-on rear speakers for their Yamaha stereo system in 1986. (I still have the entire stereo!) The one thing I feel I will prefer on the 4Bs over the R150s immediately is the fact that the 4Bs are front ported.
@mfladd@pmarin I can’t find anywhere on the Amazon page or the Q&A whether that’s a Tripath amplifier like my LP2020A+ (and James Archer should probably stop answering questions), but it looks okay for that price. I’ll be using my existing Lepai amp to test the R150s out.
This is a great deal. I said Meh because you don’t have a response for “I already have a pair”. But, for others who may be on the fence, I did a lot of research six years ago and these outperformed a lot of more expensive speakers. I’m still delighted with them.
Yeah, the mini desk system with 5.1 needed some surrounds…You, know, when work really REQUIRES that I can tell from which direction the bullets in a movie are coming. Outfitting a home office is work that is never done.

Most recent reviews from Amazon, one from 2016, rest were 2015 and earlier? I wonder when the ones for sale were manufactured? If these have foam around speaker cones, it deteriorates over time. Just wondering.
@BerMM I’d think these would be better than the Bose speakers by at least one order of magnitude. Those amplifier specs should be great for these. Of course, the deal is over now…
@mfladd@therealjrn disturbed with a bit of a wink, is more accurate. I can handle a wide variety of folks. And if anything is ever not my taste, I ignore it. And if I’m ever truly offended, I’m free to leave. It takes a bit though… It takes all kinds, and it seems they have all ended up here.
Be prepared to buy a comp connection, a small audio amplifier and speaker wire. Starts to add up. Bought items off amazon, and amp went out after 1 use. Amazon sent me a new power cord, and all good so far.
I bought 3 pairs of these last sale to make my 7.1 surround sound system (the center speaker is a very nice JBL I picked up at a thrift store). They sound great and put out a surprising amount of bass (not too much though, they aren’t “boomy”). With all 7 speakers going, I don’t even really need to turn on the subwoofer unless I want the really deep lows. Overall, I think this is a great deal.
Bought these last time they were on sale and they sound really nice. Bought the Kinter K2020A+ mini-amp with Tripath chip from Amazon to power them and they work great together. Would recommend both.
@mfladd Interesting that the one review mentions the L/R jacks being reversed. My LP-2020A+ does not have this issue. Mine was an open box item from Parts Express back when these were first introduced…I have loved it ever since. (I did do the capacitor mod, to improve bass response.)
I’m wondering if Kinter is just another brand name that’s manufactured in the same factory, or if Kinter directly copied part of Lepai’s model number. Parts Express claims Lepai is/was an exclusive brand to them.

I would totally buy these for my zone 2 set up if I wasn’t broke
Damnit meh, stop offering decent items for sale
@nolrak just give it a day, and you can rest easy
@nolrak Right? Except for those power wristlets they have been offering some decent crap. This is problematic.
Could you make surroundsound with 4 of these?
@SKostohryz these aren’t powered. So if you have a surround receiver and connect these to that, yes. But without an amp, these are just decent sounding paperweights.
@SKostohryz @smigit2002 If you read the amazon reviews you will find plenty of small amp suggestions that can inexpensively power these.
Where the fuck were you last night, nolrak?
An item I “need” at a price I can “afford.”
Screw you still for charging me tax when you never did before.

@Dizavid so tired of this bitching. You were always supposed to pay tax. You just were a dick and didn’t. Your state stopped you from being a dick. It has absolutely nothing to do with meh. If you don’t like your states sales tax take it up with then.
@Dizavid @unksol Damn right. Why, sometimes I get the impression that I’m the only guy who fills in the Use Tax line!
I bought these last time they were offered. I set them up in my garage. They sound really nice. Great for the price.
@The_Tim same, replaced my tiny L/R speakers in my 5.1 system with them. It’s now decently more full bodied, and I was able to drop my crossover to take a little strain off my subwoofer. Watching Stranger Things has been a treat with these.
I’ve been wanting some speakers for out by the pool.

@Pony aawwwww
Arrgghhh. But I’m going away for a month, and no one home to take them in. The porch pirates would be all over these…
@eeterrific since they come US Mail, if you do a mail hold they would be at the post office waiting for you.
What’s your address?
Asking for a friend.

It was Professor Polk, in the Audio Room, with a Bookshelf. Well, that is what the speaker told me.

@mfladd The amp I posted is not BT. It is very basic.

@pmarin @PooltoyWolf I just purchased this one on a prime day deal to power the Polk speakers I bought a day ago. I chose this solely for the bluetooth capabilities it has.

@steelopus LOL we come here to buy s#&@$ and escape reality. Don’t remind meh.
“Crossover: 3kHz, 1st-Order High Pass/Low Pass“
…First Order you say?
First time hubby said “buy”… said great speakers for a great price… said “order 2 pair”-I couldn’t resist, ordered 3 pair …
@wildmomo Just like clean underwear, it’s always best to have a spare pair on hand.
Very tempting, nice price.
I’m holding out for powered speakers, though.

@UncleMel It’s a butyl rubber surround like most of Polk’s drivers. I’ve had some Monitor 70s for 15 years and theyre as good as new.
Any opinions on these vs Bose 2.2 for TV watching?
(Amp is small and rated for 2 × 30 W (RMS)
into 4 ohms and accepts 4-16 ohm speakers)

Anyone else disturbed by that last pic? I can’t even bring myself to repost it…
@ybmuG Does pooping disturb you?
@therealjrn ummm, only in public.
@ybmuG Wait until the Squatty Potty’s go back on sale! haha
I did take a peek and see that you’re new here. Welcome to meh! It gets a little weird around here sometimes but it’s all in good fun.
@therealjrn oh, that does sound fun! Thanks for the welcome. I think these are my kind of peeps, for the most part…
@therealjrn
@ybmuG Hi and welcome!
My only concern is if you were disturbed by that pic, you might really be disturbed about what gets posted in the forum
@mfladd @therealjrn disturbed with a bit of a wink, is more accurate. I can handle a wide variety of folks. And if anything is ever not my taste, I ignore it. And if I’m ever truly offended, I’m free to leave. It takes a bit though… It takes all kinds, and it seems they have all ended up here.

@Mandamm What is a ‘comp connection’?
I bought 3 pairs of these last sale to make my 7.1 surround sound system (the center speaker is a very nice JBL I picked up at a thrift store). @StevenS757 That sounds suspiciously like a rebadged Lepai LP-2020A+…
@PooltoyWolf Take a look at the first few reviews. They talk about the Kinter and the Lepai.
https://www.amazon.com/Kinter-K2020A-ORIGINAL-TA2020-020-Amplifier/dp/B077Z7DBRT
@mfladd Interesting that the one review mentions the L/R jacks being reversed. My LP-2020A+ does not have this issue. Mine was an open box item from Parts Express back when these were first introduced…I have loved it ever since. (I did do the capacitor mod, to improve bass response.)

@PooltoyWolf I’m guessing they’re made in the same factory, like everything in China these days. The cases and design is identical.
@StevenS757 A definite possibility
For $10 more you can buy a pair of Dayton’s with AMT tweeters for $50. Those are real sweet for surrounds.
Wow, just received my Polk audio speakers. That was Microway popcorn quick…
What gives here meh? My Polks just arrived and somebody pooed in them!
MIne arrived today and I already hooked them up. I added a small bluetooth amp and they sound great!
Super deal! These are a solid addition to my home theatre.
