If you’re in the screen I showed above, you can click the pokemon and it will show how many km you’ve walked with it.

It doesn’t take away from the egg walking, which is cool.

@Yoda_Daenerys you can switch whenever you want. Dratini takes 5km for a candy. Haven’t checked Magikarp yet. Pikachu is only 1km. I still haven’t found more than 1 Pikachu in the wild.

@RiotDemon Pointless story warning: my best friend and I went beach camping a month or so back, and to me camping is… minimalism. I had zero intentions of bringing my phone, but she was convinced we were going to catch Pikachus on the beach together, so I did. We saw zero Pikachus. Then we get home, grab lunch the next weekend and I casually check the app… Pikachu in the restaurant! Then later, one on the creek… have yet to see any others, but we both nabbed two that day. And I didn’t have to go to any damn beach for it!

& thanks for the explanation of the buddy system… I saw one of my tweeps talking about it a week or so ago, but couldn’t find it in the app so I just figured I was behind on updates. Oops.

i got pikachu up there, and did so long enough to evolve to raichu.

@Yoda_Daenerys Tauros cp998, level 19 with Slowpoke as my buddy right now. I’m more of a collector than trainer. It’s entertaining since I walk a few miles in an area full of pokestops every day anyway but I have yet to battle another team’s gym, only my own a few times.

@callow battling other’s gym is your 6 pokemon vs. their 1 (at a time), if you weren’t aware. so even if it’s an awesome character on the bottom of the gym you can usually beat it with 6 of your best.

@Yoda_Daenerys Thanks for tip! Battling means stopping, I like to walk. I need to evolve and power up a bunch of my Pokemon then go to the gym right down the street from my house.

@callow get a bunch ready to evolve all at once and then use a lucky egg, you will get twice the xp.

you can rename the ones ready to evolve with 0 at the beginning of their name, or just plain old 0, so after sorting by A-Z they all come to the top and makes the mass evolve faster.

Firefox autocorrect and editing on iPhone does all sorts of crazy stuff. It just throws stuff, decides because I typed a word someplace I must live that word and want it another place … sometimes I don’t catch it or only catch part of it.

Or sometimes I did it and didn’t notice. Or sometimes during an edit the cursor magically jumps around to new places while I’m typing. The weird stuff happens during an edit, not straight typing.

@CaptAmehrican entertaining LOL and @f00l - I don’t grade with a bullwhip (grin) although I do stick to the stated standards when I grade (and do not grade on effort as a recent student demanded that I do and threatened to trash me on course evals if I did not - I ignored the threat)… and I have been nominated as best teacher several times… although the occasional student thinks I am the bitch from hell - especially when (as one said) I make them read the whole book and don’t repeat written assignments (so why should they care if they are repeated or not? Sort of told on themselves that the course cheating sites are on their radar LOL).

@Yoda_Daenerys I haven’t seen a raid yet, but I tried the gyms. Seems like a way for them to give out fewer coins. The only thing you can do at a gym your team holds is feed berries to other people’s pokemon which is pretty crappy. And taking over another team’s gym is close to impossible. Whatever. Maybe the raids will be fun if I find one.

@Yoda_Daenerys @sammydog01 I’ve managed to take out opposing gyms three times so far; persistence works as long as they are not too far ahead of you in level, and nobody from their team is feading them berries while you fight them.

You do get XP for feeding your own team-mate Pokemons berries; I feed the gym at a local temple by work to keep it in Team Valor.

I’ve also earned more coins since the change than in any previous 4 months. I’ve had three pokemon stay guarding a gym for 20-30 hours and received 50 coins each time; got a fourth that has been defending for 55 hours now at a gym that is in a traffic route (so not too many people take time to battle it); I got lucky at a red light and was able to drop one off.

There are still aspects of it I don’t care for but I made a deal with my wife on this game; no RL money will be spent, just time. Now I have a shot at getting the pokemon and item storage expansions I need.

I really like this update. I’ve also gotten more coins than previously. And raids are fun! I’ve won levels one and two but lost horribly when solo-ing a level three. I didn’t need the 'mon (just wait until there’s an unown as raid boss, though) so wasn’t upset about it.

@duodec @sammdydog01 i think taking out opposing gyms is easier now and more worthwhile. it takes 4-6 battles which can be done under 1/2 hour, and you will likely get some coin. in the previous version i found battling opposing gyms counter productive. use your best guys, and do type advantage (or dittos).

feeding berries seems like a bad idea now, if you want more coins. since you only get coins when kicked out, there isn’t a ‘coin reason’ to try to prolong your stay. with only 50 coins/day allowed, if you have multiple long time defenders kicked out in a day, the latter will be worth zero coins.

i’ve seen stardust for feeding berries, but hadn’t noticed XP rewards.

i also don’t spend RL money, unless Google Rewards money is considered RL.

there are multiple raids per hour in my area. they aren’t super exciting or valuable, unless you need the pokemon who is the boss. they would be cool if a bunch of people gathered to beat a level 4 boss, but that isn’t happening in my area (yet).

@Yoda_Daenerys The drop to 50 coins hurt. I had three defending pokemon return within 12 hours and only got coin for the first. But its still so much more than I had any chance to earn before with people 12-14 levels above me parked at every gym for a couple of miles around both home and work and the library and the store I go to and the park and…

@duodec yea, i used to park in 12-18 gyms at a time to be sure i got my precious 100 coins.

@Yoda_Daenerys I think its the same here. So far all the raids I’ve been near have not been opportune, or I was the only person facing an 11000+CP boss. No thanks. At lunchtime, if the weather holds, I may be able to try one soon; there are gyms in the hands of other teams all around to clear if not.

@Yoda_Daenerys Nyet. Central time zone. Close enough to chicago to smell the stink. I was just referring to my lunchtime options; if things settle down I’ll be able to attack the cluster of gyms a couple of miles away (and close to a decent Chinese place, a good Thai place, and a too expensive but good sandwich shop). If a low level Raid occurs then maybe I’ll try that. And if the battles take too long or the boss is too big, there’s a nice route of pokestops to walk and collect.

Just all depends on being able to get out of work at lunchtime, which is no certain thing these days.

@duodec don’t forget to spin the photo discs at gyms too, i still forget about that and head for pokestops instead

@Yoda_Daenerys Congrats! I haven’t been able to do a raid yet; work keeps eating my lunch times, and the gyms I pass on the way home had too big of critters with nobody else there to join in or just too long to wait to start. And some of my better fighters are out at gyms anyway.

Except one… there was an 1165 CP magikarp but I passed it with 30 seconds left, and couldn’t park and start combat in time. Bummed…

I have 4 pokemon out at gyms, one of them has been there since last Sunday. I haven’t been back so somebody has been feeding it. Got 150 coins since the weekend, which used to take at least a couple of months. Looking forward to more storage finally.

@duodec thx, and nice coins to you! i was spoiled on the old system with coins, i get half now, but whatever, it’s free.

the magicarp raids are easy to take by yourself, but the reward is just one decent magicarp and some other semi-useful stuff. the bayleaf is also easy to take on your own @ 4375.

my feeling, at least in my area, is just leave mediocre pokemon in gyms so they don’t stay there forever and you can cash in. but gyms are plentiful around here so it’s easy to be in 6-10 at a time without much effort.

@Yoda_Daenerys It would be easier here if not for my work schedule. If I see a team gym with an opening (and its safe) I drop off a pokemon (and the last one was a mid-range for the reason you stated) but thats maybe once every 2-3 days. They are either always full or else occupied by ‘other’ and I don’t have time to sweep them out, or I’m not able to stop. Looking forward to the weekend.

I’m thinking about dropping my shiny magikarp at a gym just to see if it gets knocked out even faster or if the cool factor entices opfors to leave it there despite its wimpiness.

i never got a shiny, but i may have transferred some shiny magikarp before i realized what they looked like

it can be pretty quick to take an entire opposing team of 6 down if you have some decent CP fighters, 4-5 battles 3-4 minutes each, but that’s could be 20 mins, so maybe that doesn’t fall into most trainers idea of pretty quick.
