Wait... Irk is not on the no-fly list?? WTF! He's a troll for Koresh sakes! A troll is let on the plane?? Well, maybe it bothers me more than it should.
Question for ask Irk: How come Irk is always wearing the same shirt all the time? Can't you throw in one of those hip "Meh" shirts for the little guy? It's bad enough it doesn't even get to wear pants.
Speaking of shirts when is the Irk faced shirt that proclaims "Maybe it bothers me more than it should." coming out????
"Please control your luggage" plays every.... 10 minutes at LAX? I have no idea what it means to control luggage, and every time it comes on, I say "children" in place of "luggage"
@Collin1000 Maybe it's a mis-translation and they meant to say, "Please control your baggage." We'd have a lot less need for airport security if people left their political, religious, emotional, psycho nutcase baggage at home when they travelled.
PTSD! Got stuck sleeping on the floor in Meh's local airport, DFW once upon a time. My outbound flight from Philly was delayed because of the lousy weather over Dallas, in turn causing me to miss my connecting flight to Phoenix (where I was headed for a friend's wedding.) As if the jerks at DFW weren't bad enough in that no one would even try to find me a crappy blanket or pillow, there was construction in the terminal and the horrendous announcements just played over and over and over. All night long, even though the airport was technically closed... A small group of us had gathered that were all in the same situation. I finally fell asleep around 4 am and woke an hour later to a large number of people now walking past and staring at us like we were vagrants.
Thanks Irk. Thanks so much for making me relive that horrid experience.
@Cinoclav DFW is awful, even when everything is running as it should, it's a pain to deal with. I try to fly out of DAL (Love Field) whenever I can. Sorry Dallas was not more hospitable for you :(
@Kleineleh One person. One kindly soul. That's all we found there. That one person knew what secret panel to open up to find us some mini airplane blankets (at around 2:30 am). At least my toes were warm. No need to apologize though, I fly out of Philly. 'Nuf said.
@Cinoclav I cannot fully describe the awfulness of the night we spent in Sydney airport. Some of the highlights: the check in was closed when we got there so we couldn't check our luggage and go to our carpeted terminal with padded chairs, we had to stay in the lobby area with tile and steel seats. There was construction and they were literally flinging piles of metal off forklifts. Big doors were open to admit the forklifts and it was about 40F outside (and inside). Since the check-in was closed, so were all the stores and restaurants in the lobby. I don't know if there were announcements being played as they could not be heard over the cacaphony of construction.
@moondrake And the alternative is always going to a hotel where you're going to pay $150 to get 2 hours of sleep before you have to be back first thing in the morning.
@Cinoclav Our problem was money and transportation. We arrived at the airport at about 11:15pm, and were very surprised to find the check-in closed. We needed to board our plane at 6:30am, and had to be there by 4:30am due to it being an international flight. We could have used a taxi both ways, but that would have added probably another $40, and I expect $150 for a hotel night in Sydney close to the airport is probably lowballing it. We didn't think we had much practical alternative, but if we'd known we weren't going to be able to check our luggage after 11pm, we'd have headed to the airport earlier. Being anchored to the lobby by our luggage was what made it so awful, the actual gates were luxurious by comparison.
@DJP519 Longish story. We were in a B&B, but it was their first time renting and they treated us more like family than strangers. Drove us everywhere, fed us any meal we were home for at the table with them. While we were there his dad had a stroke and was not expected to live. They needed family time so they sent us up to their cabin in the mountains for the last couple of days of our stay, which was great, we got to add an unexpected dimension to the trip. But it was about 4 hours by train and we had to come back the evening of our flight. We got back in time to have a special mea with our hosts (she'd asked me what my favorite food was earlier and then prepared it for us for our final dinner), we shared a bottle of wine and a dessert we'd bought to thank them and then they drove us to the airport. We'd always planned on staying in the airport that night, it we figured we'd just read or watch movies all night and sleep on the 14 hour flight. IME, the more you can sleep on a transatlantic flight the less jetlagged you'll be. I am terrible at sleeping, especially in public, this last flight from Europe having been up for 20 hours and taking a sleeping pill after dinner and donning earplugs and an eye- mask still left me wide awake the whole flight. Anyway, we couldn't have asked them to drive us to the airport at 4am, and we hadn't made arrangements to stay that last night with them anyway. They were awesome hosts and it was a great trip, just some unexpected bumps at the end caught us off guard.
Since we are talking about travel and how bad it is being stuck in airports I will share a little travel tip that I have developed over the years. If you are going to be stuck in an airport during the day for more than a couple of hours, go out front to where the hotel courtesy vans pick people up. Select one for an upscale place like the Hilton or Marriott. Go to the hotel and have a nice, relaxing meal in their restaurant. If you have extra time, depending one where the hotel is located, you can walk around outside and see some sights. Take the hotel shuttle back to the airport. Tip the driver on both trips. If you are on a long journey, getting out and having some fresh air away from the crowds is a real blessing.
Irk's getting cranky.
So that's what clocks are for.
The white zone is for loading and unloading only. No parking.
@Headly The red zone is for immediate loading and unloading of passengers only. There is no stopping in the white zone.
@Headly The White Zone is for loading and unloading only. If you have to load or unload, go to the White Zone. You'll love it. It's a way of life.
I love purple.
Perhaps this will cheer you up. Perhaps not.
@nadroj I've had a version of this on my computer for almost 14 years. So awesome.

How much does Irk hate this woman?
(The voice of over 200 airports)
@Collin1000 Could be worse check yo Clocks boyzee!
@caffeine_dude See, I'd pay attention to Flava Flave.
It sort of feels like Detroit should be in the central time zone. They should buckle under and do it. Be a bigger fish in a smaller pond.

@moondrake Why did you go so early in the first place? Why not stay whereever you were, and go to the airport at 4am?

@moondrake Gotcha, thanks for the backstory. Those folks sound like great hosts. Such a shame they had the family emergency with the dad.
I'm convinced airports are a grand social experiment in just how much ridiculous BS the average person can put up with before losing their mind.

@moondrake And you can usually check your bags with a bellhop at the hotel, too, so you don't have to drag them around. Just tip a few bucks.
@DJP519 This is usually a layover so our big bags are checked through to our destination, But if you are hauling a lot of carry-ons that works.
Naw, it bothers you about as much as it should.
