@conandlibrarian These Atmos got me thinking of past speakers and I was going to say “remember those silly 901 speakers that were more accurate because the sound was reflected?”, but when I googled, I found those speakers still have a few million fans and the company is doing great!
Then I remembered when I got my HP touchpad that had “Beats” and we were wondering what that was for quite a while. MonsterCable is still doing well. My favorite audio concept were by Shun Mook Audio and were the Mpingo Discs, that were made of ebony and other exotic woods. You placed these discs on your amp and turntable and other components and moved them around until you got the sound you wanted. Here are some of the prices: Mpingo Discs, $50 each. Spatial Control Kit, $450. Super Passive Diamond Resonator, $400. I remember reading the glowing review in, I think, Stereophile magazine.
This all probably has nothing to do with the Atmos. I’d like to hear them. I’d like to own the whole system. I’d particularly like to hear how the top loading speaker sounds, whether it muddies the separation or not. When you spend a lot of money on a system, it usually sounds pretty good. Usually.
Way too expensive. I’ve got a 5.1 set with two towers, two bookshelf’s and the center channel. Gen 1 mind you. But ALL that cost me $225. Yeah, I’d buy these at $100 a pair TOPS.
@salaosantiago You missed that sale… that was sold prior to christmas (and that is what all my sibs, nieces and nephews who were old enough to have their own car got at, I think $3 or 4 each)
Could I use these as my rear surround if my front set up is powerful enough? My towers are rated at 8 ohms. I like the idea of only having to have 2 speakers back there.
As a living thing on earth I really love atomosphere!!! It keeps all the oxygen and nitrogen in and helps bounce that nasty radiation away!!! That is why I love this Pioneer Dolby Atmosphere!!! I keep them on hand in case we run out, or for when I need to replenish some that escapes to the ISS.
In for 4 in class-m planet style, and of course I got VMP it’s just a great deal generally.
@cole103 I tried to post this same comment about 6 times last night but kept getting an error. And yes, as far as I’m concerned it was a mistake. They’re not powered.
@ellett Depends on the speaker. And how clean the signal coming into it is. 1%THD vs .1 vs .01… The power rating these days are pathetic on most receivers/amplifiers.
i think the whole bundle at once, 1) receiver, 2) front, 3) up-firing, 4) center, 5) sub-woofer might work better if there are those that can afford, since it’s a bit risky buying one without the option to buy another, or sell them ala carte all at one time instead of a bundle?

In what world do you think I can afford this??
@conandlibrarian In the world of monopoly money?
@conandlibrarian These Atmos got me thinking of past speakers and I was going to say “remember those silly 901 speakers that were more accurate because the sound was reflected?”, but when I googled, I found those speakers still have a few million fans and the company is doing great!

This price Sounds to expensive
*too
@IdHateMe They can’t afford these speakers and you think they can afford extra O’s for no good reason?!
Wheeee! Something even more boring than lightbulbs!
This deal does not speak to me.
meh<---------------->meh [stereo]
@radi0j0hn ^^^^^ {atmos}
Prediction: Not going to sell out of these.
Arg…if I hadn’t bought the others…
Plus I don’t have that kind of $$$ right now.
These continue to be a tough sell.
But do they have the lightning connector?
Way too expensive. I’ve got a 5.1 set with two towers, two bookshelf’s and the center channel. Gen 1 mind you. But ALL that cost me $225. Yeah, I’d buy these at $100 a pair TOPS.
/giphy still too expensive
…still totally useless for margaritas.
@alacrity, you’re right, with a curved top, you can’t sit anything on top of these.
Unless you’re playing Jimmy Buffet, still no effing margaritas! Uber Meh.
Can’t use these to cut myself out of the seatbelt after a fiery car crash. meh.
@salaosantiago You missed that sale… that was sold prior to christmas (and that is what all my sibs, nieces and nephews who were old enough to have their own car got at, I think $3 or 4 each)
@Kidsandliz and more recently for closer to 7$ or $14 (2fer?) now we can crash safely in our car with our minds at ease.
I was gonna drop a sound pun on how much I’m not interested in this, but I think I’ll remain quiet on the matter.
ok, it’d take at least 5 margaritas for these to sound like a good idea to me.
I have a pair of the non-Atmos ones and love them.
I’m looking to build out my set to have a center channel and a pair of the floor standing models.
Could I use these as my rear surround if my front set up is powerful enough? My towers are rated at 8 ohms. I like the idea of only having to have 2 speakers back there.
@mtb002 ditto
How much Atmos-coded content is out there?
@huja not much
http://www.dolby.com/us/en/experience/dolby-atmos/bluray-and-streaming.html
I bought Fury Road and 5th element when I picked up the add on speakers and it does add something.
These are Not the same add one that were sold before. I bought the add ons for my front towers and I thought about buying another pair for the rears.
I’m glad I held off… These look much cleaner than the add on combo.
Now if only I could get a 9 or 11 channel atmos receiver for cheap…
I’m still alive, and I’m Still saving, so I can afford some nice shit. Meh still excites me.
They look like decent speakers. Looks like a decent price. I have an Atmos receiver. But I’m meh’ing anyway. The world keeps on spinning.
@reddinghill you’ll change your mind by morning, i’m betting on it
/buy
@AccusingEwe It worked! Your order number is: respective-baleful-bite
/image respective baleful bite
Atmos al pay is like $100.
Please Meh? You will make it up in volume. I assure you.
If you reverse “Dolby Atmos”, you get “SOMTAY BLOD” which is a cool name for a bad guy in a movie or something. That’s all I got.
/giphy Somtay Blod
I don’t feel comfortable putting my books on and in these. Pass.

For this kind of dough I could buy a non-Meh auto feed scanner. No thanks…
Murder mystery spoiler alert!!!
Do these things come with docks? Or are you holding those out for speaker dock friday?
Reviews at Amazon are great. The second or third one even points out that they are frequently on sale at the big A for $100 a pair. I’ll wait.
I’m still waiting for that promised receiver deal to come back. I got the upward speakers last time. Come back, come back!
@newmat Tell me about it! Liars I tell you to get me to buy the add on speakers!!!
I’d pay $50 Atmos
@gak0090 I nominate this for cheesy pun of the day.

Bullet point in Description:
“80 watts of power moves through concentrically mounted 1” tweeters on 4" woofers"
Is this a mistake or are these powered speakers? By themselves speakers have no power.
@cole103 I tried to post this same comment about 6 times last night but kept getting an error. And yes, as far as I’m concerned it was a mistake. They’re not powered.
When you see a speaker rated “80 watts” it means that you can pump 80 watts into the speaker before you blow a coil or otherwise ruin it.
@ellett Depends on the speaker. And how clean the signal coming into it is. 1%THD vs .1 vs .01… The power rating these days are pathetic on most receivers/amplifiers.
Perfectly happy with my custom in-wall 5.1 setup that doesn’t take up any space on my bookshelves. Meh.
The ones selling on Amazon for $100 dollars are the regular bookshelf speakers… These are the bookshelf with atmos speakers built into the top.
They have 2 separate terminals for the speakers on each module… This would require at least 4 audio channels from the receiver JUST for the 2 units.
These are great for rear speakers on a home theater with at least 7 audio channels but it is overkill for hooking up to a PC.
i think the whole bundle at once, 1) receiver, 2) front, 3) up-firing, 4) center, 5) sub-woofer might work better if there are those that can afford, since it’s a bit risky buying one without the option to buy another, or sell them ala carte all at one time instead of a bundle?

Wee little drivers And 85db sensitivity? A shit shot as far as I’m concerned. Better off going to monoprice.
