What’s with “in use” product pictures being shitty photoshop images all the time? Is it that hard to actually get the fan and set it on a desk for a real picture? Or at least make it look better done than a 12 year old that spent 5 minutes working on it?
Mom has one of these, purchased from Target years ago. It works really well, it’s a great little fan. My only quip with it is that over time, the swivel has become weak and now has trouble keeping the breeze pointed in a given direction. That, and it’s a bit of a pain to disassemble when it inevitably comes due for a good cleaning.
As an aside, is it really as hard to operate a hotel A/C unit as it is to set the clock on a VCR? (What am I saying?? Even THAT’S not hard! LOL)
@PooltoyWolf It’s not that it’s hard to push buttons on the thermostat; it’s that most hotel thermostats are intentionally configured to save the hotel money at the expense of your comfort. Most have motion sensors, and if you don’t want the unit shutting down when you aren’t moving around the room, you have to look up instructions on how to hack it to enable “VIP mode.” Not to mention that the motion sensors are rarely installed where they can even “see” the bed, so without VIP mode you’re constantly waking up freezing/in a sweat…
@macwhiz I’m talking about fully mechanical self-contained through-the-wall units you’d find in a Motel 6, as I assumed the writeup was. I have personally never encountered a hotel room HVAC system that used a motion detection system to shut itself off during periods of perceived vacancy; I am surprised and annoyed such setups exist for exactly the sleep-related reasons you state!
@phendrick Bot got the phalanges correct! That’s an unusual win. But I also see some fans that wouldn’t be OSHA-approved. And what is that thing on the top shelf over his right shoulder?
I had a few, but I think I’ve given them all away during recent heat waves to friends who needed them. They plug in, they’re not USB or battery. Just straight up basic reliable little fans, with Vornado quality. They work nice beside the bed for sleeping, or just to keep a lil air moving at a desk situation.
I have one of these on my desk. I’m using it as I type. It doesn’t move a lot of air. It won’t blow papers off your desk, but if you point it at your face it generates a pleasant breeze.
@TBoneZeOriginal My S.O. and I have opposite needs in ventilation; he wants a breeze in his face, I emphatically do not - unless it’s really hot. When I drive his car, the first thing I have to do is point the AC vents away from me.
I have one of these on my desk (free from Uline). It does move a lot of air, and I like it. Also provides a fair amount of noise, but it’s not a huge deal unless you’re sensitive to that sort of noise.
@TBoneZeOriginal Mine is also from Uline. It really is a personal fan. It is great for what it is, but if you get about 6-8 feet away from it you won’t really feel it much.
The main page says $12,but when you get to the order page, it says $24. It’s still a great price, don’t get me wrong. Just seems a teensy bit misleading. Not stopping me from buying a pair.
@Barc777 When preset combos are being sold, so that you are ordering just one item that contains all of the merch in question, it will show the combo price. These are pick-your-pair, so it shows the “each” price even though you can’t actually order just one.

I am a fan of Vornados!!
I have had one of these V6 fans for almost 10 years and it is still blowing like the day I got it.
@yakkoTDI Me too!
They make good stuff, we have a couple of their heaters which work great, and a room fan as well. These should be good little desk fans.
Great heater:

Room fan, highly recommended:

@robson I personally love their VFAN series. The minis are great for when I need a small amount of air and being all metal they make a great weapon.
I scored a VFAN Alchemy a coupe years ago when it was on sale for $90. That 5 speed switch is nice.

@robson @yakkoTDI
Huh? You fight with desk fans?
@robson @yakkoTDI I’ve got the retro style heater.
@yakkoTDI I have a VFAN Jr pointed at my desk, so this would be a little redundant. Totally agree about the weapon potential.
@Kyeh @robson
Of course! I win way more often since most people are not expecting me to grab the fan to fight with when they barge into my desk area.
@robson @yakkoTDI Sounds like a dangerous place to work!
No purple or Georgia red?
@heartny If you really want a purple one, Home Depot’s got purple ones listed as available for shipping, for $19.99 each.
@heartny OP forgot to post a link.

@heartny There’s always purple Sharpie…
@heartny @xobzoo Or Krylon.
How much packaging did you have to buy from Uline to get all of these?
Power source? Wall current? USB? AA batteries?
@getkind Wind power, of course.
@getkind The only hint they give us is, “Built to meet U. S. voltage requirements”
@getkind These are 120VAC plug-in fans.
@getkind Per bits of info on Amazon, AC. 6 ft power cord.
@getkind Amazon photo shows a cord.
@getkind @PooltoyWolf They also include a fuse in the plug like all electrical items should.
@getkind @PooltoyWolf @yakkoTDI A fuse is good, and so is a resettable circuit breaker, but a crap-ass GFCI is more of a pain than an asset.
@getkind I’ve got two of these they plug into a standard US 120v outlet.
@getkind ZPM Runs forever, but hard to obtain.

@ColeSloth Because even Meh doesn’t want to use the stuff they buy.
@ColeSloth And they didn’t even include a pic of a group of people laughing as they use the fan at the beach or a baby staring at it!
@ColeSloth you act like you haven’t been here for ten years guy

@PooltoyWolf Clock on a VCR? Thought i was the only prehistoric person around here.
/youtube does anybody really know what time it is
@PooltoyWolf Thanks for that awesome “blast” from the past! Loved it!
POKER! JOKER! NOT MEDIOCRE! AWESOME!

I really like our bigger vornado, and having two little behbeh ones would be nice so I don’t have to share the airflow
/giphy totally-panoramic-giant
Little known fact: the movie Sharknado was inspired by meh selling shark vacuums one day and vornado fans another day.
Apparently if you connect a vornado to a shark vacuum it creates a Sharknado.
@OnionSoup that really sucks, and blows.
@jwoody27 not only that, but it bites too.
@jwoody27 @OnionSoup I think you may have Jumped the Shark on this idea.
No diameter or dimensions given? Boo.
@Mrmindless The details are lacking here.
4.9"D x 5"W x 6.2"H
@mcanavino @Mrmindless And the fan diameter is 3.4” according to Home Depot.

@blaineg @phendrick Hopefully, in today’s enlightened society, we can all agree to be equal opportunity up skirt air blowers!

Has it figured out fingers?
@blaineg I thought so too…until today’s jerky thread!
I got 4, because I know at least 3 places I’ll want one of these, and who knows, a fourth might get occasional use for travel.
…Maybe I should buy 2 more.

i can see “koi” being an aroma or even a flavor, but a color? The actual koi i’ve seen had many more than any single color.
@phendrick Obviously, these are the color of minced koi.
@phendrick @werehatrack
@blaineg @phendrick @werehatrack
/image super bass-a-matic
@phendrick What is the aroma of Koi?
@OnionSoup A little fishy; similar to some other things that you’ve probably smelled before.
/showme Sally Rand doing a fan dance
@mediocrebot lame, tame, and somewhat inane. You should google some pictures of her…
In for 4. Thanks for the good recommendations!
I’m a woman in my 50’s and I am freaking hot alllll of the time.
Somewhere in here, there’s an “onlyfans” joke, but I’m not following it.
I have two Vornado fans, the are amazing fans moving the air around. I really like them, I’m a big fan.

Ok. I’m in.
/giphy dorky-fretful-liquid
I have one of these on my desk. I’m using it as I type. It doesn’t move a lot of air. It won’t blow papers off your desk, but if you point it at your face it generates a pleasant breeze.
@Trinityscrew Weird because mine moves more air than I’d probably want directly in my face.
@TBoneZeOriginal My S.O. and I have opposite needs in ventilation; he wants a breeze in his face, I emphatically do not - unless it’s really hot. When I drive his car, the first thing I have to do is point the AC vents away from me.

Hey, are these battery powered or wired?
@badbarky A few of the pictures show a cord coming off of the fan!
@badbarky I have two of these they plug into a US standard 120v outlet.
They are wired. They’ll light up your life!
Doesn’t say if their battery operated or plug-in.
@Royalhope I have two of these they plug into a standard US 120v outlet.
Product Dimensions 5.13"D x 5.13"W x 3.5"H
@mehwhateverpfft That’s the box, not the actual fan.
I already have two of these and this is more or less half price.

@Barc777 Two fans, $12 each, is $24.
@werehatrack usually, when there are multiples, they show the price of all.
