Photography Question
4Ok folks, yesterday I spent a good deal of the day going through stacks and stacks of very old family pictures.
We found one of my grandpa that was severly damaged and about half of his face is missing. I am wondering if the half I have can be duplicated and somehow flipped to create a whole picture? Does anyone know? And if so, any idea where I can take it to have it done?

I am so frustrated because it looks like it was a lovely picture of him
I’m not sure if you’re on Facebook, but there are a few photo restorers in groups on there. If you have any other photos of him, they may be able to create the entire image with a little work. I don’t have any resources off the top of my head other than that, but it might be worth a shot.
That said, if you wanted I could put out a request for someone and DM you with the details. In quite a few groups.
@riskybryzness I would appreciate it if you wouldn’t mind. I’m not on FB, so that intro would be great.
Not a lot of pics of him when he was younger, but I have this one too. Love it, I think it gives Elvis vibes!!

Oh and I found this crazy one scrolling through my phone
@tinamarie1974 Done! I put out some feelers in some groups I’m in. Not sure if anyone will bite, but it’s worth a shot for sure!
@riskybryzness thank you so much! I very much appreciate your help!!!
@tinamarie1974 Of course! I’ve seen some pretty remarkable photoshopping over the years in these groups so you honestly never know. We’ll see where it goes!
You can fake it till you make it. The half that’s there can be copied, flipped, and superimposed to get a result close to what you might be looking for but if it’s not physically there in the photo, or negative, it’s not there. That is to say, it’s easier to remove something than to add something that’s missing back in. Not entirely sure of WHERE to get something like that done, honestly but don’t put out an open call to the internet; I’ve only seen that end in hilarity.
@GetClosure oh I have seen some of those crazy Twitter reauests and results. That is why I decided to come here. For the most part I think our group is a safe space and there are tons of knowledgeable people!!
Doing a quick mirror of his face isn’t yielding a good result as the photo was taken on an angled perspective. I may at least try doing some touch-up work later on the rest, however.
(Was this taken with a camera or on a flatbed scanner? If the former, is it possible to do it on a scanner instead, as that would eliminate any keystone effects.)
Hi @narfcake I took it with my phone. Let me figure out the scanner and I’ll upload. Thank you
@narfcake With the head at an angle, as you noted, this will require the services of an artist - and might be facilitated by some of the newer deepfaking software that can extrapolate things pretty well.
You could also (hope and pray) that the photography company listed on the pic is still around and kept their files and negatives
@chienfou oh that is a good idea, didnt think of that!
High school yearbooks were published starting 1845, and college before that. If you have any details of his scholar years and the school participated you’d probably have a decent headshot. Good luck.
