@brainmist@yakkoTDI The way I’ve heard the punch line is “summer here, summer there” (or, spelled out, some are here, some are there). In case it wasn’t clear.
@craigthom or at least a bunch of authentic actual genuine brush heads. I think there was a set here a few years ago that came with 4 of different types.
@NadmanET It seems this exact model does not come with a charging case. Looking at info on Phillips and Amazon, other models in the series do, but this one is just the little plastic snap case, no charger. So, how to charge if on a long trip?
@NadmanET Do you have the case but not the cable? Would be hard to find in stores anymore except maybe at Goodwill (seriously when away from home and needing a cable or a USB keyboard or something it’ll often have it for a few bucks but YMMV)
Also I recently did an Amazon order to send an Apple lightning cable to my mother who was at a location and didn’t have her cable. So depending on where you are and if you Amazon, that may work/
Or if you are near anyone that has a Playstation 3 (not 4 or 5 — think back almost 20 years) it is the charging cable for the PS3 controller.
I do like that this has a separate intensity control. And one less ‘mode’ — the old ‘sensitive’ mode was just normal but with lower intensity. Now there is more control and I guess the intensity applies to each mode.
Also I don’t have one in blue yet.
Still wishing for bonus brush heads and assurance that the travel case is USB-C. But really doubt that.
@EmptiMind So here I was complaining they still used the 20-year-old connector and they say, well f%^& you, we will just give you the little plastic snap case instead, no charging for you!
I did some research on Phillips and Amazon and this seems confirmed. Other models in the series (the non-special ones) come with a charging case and the $500 one comes with a ‘premium leatherette charging case.’
Well, isn’t that special?
@whomeyesu It’s definitely meh, but the good news is you can control the toothbrush from the touchscreen in your Tesla! Just put it self driving mode first
@ircon96@Kidsandliz@robson@whomeyesu took me a second or two to unwind that one. I’d say daddy is creepier. (Though I just got one a few weeks ago, without the sticker though. Practicality in this case, and a recent price drop, outweighed the creepy daddy factor)
I have this and I love it honestly, just got the replacement heads from Costco on sale. Teeth have never been cleaner, heaven knows I need it with the candy corn and waffle things from here…
I’m banning them from my house, philips is a poor quality company in general anyways. This toothbrush will fail in a couple of years or sooner and it seems to be exactly the same as any other reputable ultra or whatever kind of sonic toothbrush.
@slgabree60 ‘Cause one way you are supporting an evil Chinese company, and the other way you are supporting an evil European company that probably makes these in China.
I once visited Philips Medical in Eindhoven, Netherlands. They were using our software product in a medical X-ray machine they were developing and had discovered a problem - the table positioning controls would sometimes lock up and dump the patient on the floor (this was in early development testing, not in actual medical use). For some reason they were very concerned about this.
So another company engineer and I went back to the sales/support office in Rotterdam, devised a prototype fix that solved the problem and gave it to the team at Philips to test. Then we spent the rest of the week checking out the sights of Rotterdam. And ate some great Indonesian food.
What does this story have to do with today’s offering?
I like stories.
For some reason they were very concerned about this.
I lived in Austin near Eindhoven and played the carillon in Eindhoven, Austin and at the carillon museum in Austin (and gave English speaking tours there too). While I toured the one in Rotterdam I didn’t officially play a carillon concert there. I loved living in The Netherlands. Their bakery food was light and airy and delicious, public transportation got you anywhere quickly and their health care system was the best I had experienced in any country (of course 45% of their MD’s are primary care doctors - no idea the case if you needed a specialist).
@Kidsandliz Yes, all the food we ate there was very good. Large portions and lots of fresh vegetables. Also quite inexpensive by US standards. And the people were very friendly and pretty much all spoke English.
(At least it was like that in the mid 80’s - I haven’t been there recently.)
@macromeh They start English in first grade. They, along with the Scandinavians, had the best English in Europe when I lived there. Made it harder to practice my fledgling Dutch.

Help prevent Summer teeth.
@yakkoTDI Oh no, what are summer teeth?
@brainmist @yakkoTDI The ones before “the fall”.
Toothless in Seattle:
@brainmist @yakkoTDI The way I’ve heard the punch line is “summer here, summer there” (or, spelled out, some are here, some are there). In case it wasn’t clear.
@brainmist @Doooood “Summer black, summer rotting, summer missing.”
Does it come with a special coin?
@Kidsandliz no, and though it says glass base, it doesn’t look like the older one that was a drinking glass you could put Margaritas in.`
I’m a big fan of Sonicare toothbrushes, but I’m happy with the two for under $100 model.
@craigthom or at least a bunch of authentic actual genuine brush heads. I think there was a set here a few years ago that came with 4 of different types.
Does the travel charger case still use mini-USB (the one that’s been obsolete for 15 years?).Not micro, but mini.
@pmarin this is my question also as I am currently on vacation with my old soniccare with mini USB and it’s dead and I have no way to charge it!
@NadmanET It seems this exact model does not come with a charging case. Looking at info on Phillips and Amazon, other models in the series do, but this one is just the little plastic snap case, no charger. So, how to charge if on a long trip?

@pmarin Travel case doesn’t even charge on this version. It’s just a plastic case.
@EmptiMind Well that’s not nice at all!
I guess at least they solved the obsolete USB connector problem.
Between lack of extra heads and that charging thing (or lack of it), unless this is a 2fer pack I’m gonna say No
@EmptiMind So here I was complaining they still used the 20-year-old connector and they say, well f%^& you, we will just give you the little plastic snap case instead, no charging for you!

More settings than a Tesla! Undecided if that is a good selling point or meh?
@whomeyesu It’s definitely meh, but the good news is you can control the toothbrush from the touchscreen in your Tesla! Just put it self driving mode first
@robson @whomeyesu
/image Telsa with teeth
@Kidsandliz @robson @whomeyesu Awww, it has its daddy’s smile!
@ircon96 @Kidsandliz @robson @whomeyesu It’s kind of cute!
@ircon96 @Kidsandliz @robson @whomeyesu took me a second or two to unwind that one. I’d say daddy is creepier. (Though I just got one a few weeks ago, without the sticker though. Practicality in this case, and a recent price drop, outweighed the creepy daddy factor)
So you’re saying it can stir a margarita?
How much for a six-pack of these for swizzle sticks?
I have this and I love it honestly, just got the replacement heads from Costco on sale. Teeth have never been cleaner, heaven knows I need it with the candy corn and waffle things from here…
Sonicare Prestige has… AI in it. FFS.
I’m banning them from my house, philips is a poor quality company in general anyways. This toothbrush will fail in a couple of years or sooner and it seems to be exactly the same as any other reputable ultra or whatever kind of sonic toothbrush.
@qazxto Yup, we got a diamondwhatever one a few years ago that had a charging “cup”, and the charger stopped working in about 14 months.
@qazxto @ravenblack We’ve had two $30 phillips electric brushes since 2017. I wish they would die so i could replace them and not feel gulity
Vegeta would be very impressed.
Why would I pay $99 when I bought two sonic toothbrushes for like $20 about a year ago.
@slgabree60 ‘Cause one way you are supporting an evil Chinese company, and the other way you are supporting an evil European company that probably makes these in China.
@slgabree60 looks around for the gun being held to your head forcing you to buy
I have one of these and I have to say it is, by far, the best of the “sonic brushes” I’ve owned so far.
Somewhat surprised by the comments on quality issues with Phillips as I’ve been using them for 10+ years without issue.
Thinking of getting one just to have the spare…

@macromeh I think I like your story more than I like this toothbrush.
And yes Indonesian food is great!
@macromeh

@Kidsandliz @macromeh Can you play Chopsticks on the carillon?
@Barc777 @macromeh of course. And Mozart and Scot Joplin all sorts of things.
Damn fine writeup today. Keep up the good work and the appropriately placed F bombs.
reminds me of a Rhod Gilbert bit!
I see that the box says “Whiter teeth in just 3 days.” Is that three days of continuous brushing?
How often does it need charging?
@customers We’ve got the DiamondClean toothbrush back on Meh today. Are you liking yours? Will you share a review with our community?
And if you like it enough to get one as a gift for someone, they’re $10 cheaper now.
Good toothbrush if you need a new one. Costco has some good deals on brushheads sometimes too so you dont need offbrand ones.
@Shalifi heads are being sold right now on Side Deal I think.
@Kidsandliz @Shalifi yep.
