Phantom 3 or Cheerson CX-22
0I want one.
The CX-22 appeals because it seems more tweakable. But all the video I can find online is pretty bad--jello, and shaky pans (since it only has a 2D gimbal).
All the P3 videos I've found are butter-smooth, and it now has follow me, point of interest, waypoint navigation, etc.
Cheerson=Microsoft/Android
Phantom=Apple
I'm mostly Windows/Android, but...smo-o-o-th video!
Somebody talk me out of it.

You can barely cast a stone in this forum without hitting a rant by me about how much I love my Cheerson CX-20 (and it's APM based flight controller). 2 years ago, and for well under $300 the CX-20 was capable of doing things the P3 added a couple of months ago (for 3x the price!) And DJI touts these capabilities as a miracle of their modern advancements in NAZA FC technology.
I have to say, when I mount my Walkera 3D gimbal on the CX-20 it's pretty damn smooth.
So why did I just blow a pile of dosh on a P3?
I'm sick, mate. I have this desperate, uncontrollable need to fly them all, in search of drone nirvana. The transcendent state of drone perfection where flight time, stability, features, payload and simplicity of operation all intersect in an orgy of drone fueled bliss.
The prices on P3's won't be going up. If anything, deals will be easier to find as time goes on. I encourage you to wait until I post my honest review, then go build a 450 or 500 class APM based system sourced from top shelf parts and wind up spending about the same $$ as a P3, but with open source, non proprietary parts.
Seriously though, there is a perl of wisdom there. But at least wait for my review knowing I'll be comparing my P3 to a dozen other drones ranging from the $250 CX-20 up to the $1,500 Tali H500 hexa.
@ruouttaurmind Thanks for the voice of reason(?) I do like building stuff, and I have a mini-APM w/GPS on the shelf, waiting for a build. But doing 'follow me' with it isn't exactly plug and play--although I guess that's part of the attraction.
There just aren't enough hours in the day to do all the things I want to do. (I've been retired for over 10 years, and I'm getting busier all the time.)
@fultonmartin Follow Me is pretty much plug-n-play with Andropilot or Tower running on the Android device, and Arducopter 3.2 on the APM.
@fultonmartin See my fresh post re: P3 on sale today
@ruouttaurmind I actually saw it in time, but I've backed off a bit and will wait for your evaluation of it. And since I actually do pay "use tax" on stuff I buy out of state, lack o' sales tax isn't an incentive for me.
@fultonmartin doesn't the cx-22 come with a 3d gimbal? you're probably only finding cx-20 video's
@DJMajickMan The descriptions don't say 3D, and the videos don't look like it. Even the BangGood ones aren't at all impressive. (Unless the descriptions are inaccurate, I am talking about CX-22 video.)
@fultonmartin Wow yeah I thought it looked like it was 3D because the top mount looks like it could have easily had a motor mounted to it. And this video show's it can't even level itself properly with the horizon :(
Guess I won't be looking at getting one of those.
@DJMajickMan Wow. That does NOT look good. At all.
