@communistjack thanks! I actually had to call Pepsi this week and asked while I had CS on the phone. They gave me no good answer. Just did a little song and dance.
Happy to hear it is a pandemic issue and not a discontinuation issue.
@dave@tinamarie1974 same. I’d ordered it from Sams club in the beginning of May and it was the only part of my order I didn’t get. Walmart has been sold out of cans (but was able to get the 16oz bottles). Walmart finally had some last week, of course it was shoved all the way back in the rack, and not an employee anywhere around. I managed though, finally. I probably looked like a crazy person kneeling on the floor stretching my arm as far as I could trying to grasp any part I could.
Sonic gave me Diet Coke the other day instead of Coke Zero, I was not happy about that either. I at least have some for now.
@dave This topic came up on a local forum. A Coke distributor said they had to cut back manufacturing during the pandemic and that Zero, along with all the other miscellaneous flavors would be ramping back up in the summer. Side note: You should really stay away from that aspartame. It’s bad shit.
@cinoclav it is and I am pretty sure everything will kill you - at least that is what they say. Wine is good for you, but too much…liver damage. Eat dark chocolate, too much…diabetes. Eat your fruits and veggies…aaahhh fruits, natures candy!
I know this particular ingredient is a pain point for you and that is ok. I think we pick one here or there that matters to us, we cannot worry about everything or we would go crazy.
@tinamarie1974 It’s a chemical that was meant to be an ulcer drug and it’s parent company continually lied about the safety of it in testing. Not to mention the simple fact that it’s been proven diet drinks do not help people lose weight and are worse for you than good old fashioned sugar. I preach because I care…
@cinoclav@tinamarie1974 I drink Coke Zero occasionally, but not to diet. I am borderline diabetic. I don’t drink any other sodas or sugary drinks and I’m sure a lot of people drink it for diabetic related issues, not dieting. Just wanted to point that out.
@jmoor783 And he is clever about being a fraud. He posts just a bit of real science, makes up the rest (or takes things out of context) and then intermingles that with his snake oil he sells. Although it is true that aspartame likely really bad for you, more so than some of the other artificial sweeteners or other additives we put in food.
Not completely on topic (but not completely off topic) but why does Diet Pepsi fizz so much at the costco soda fountains? You can fill up with regular Pepsi on a single try, but with Diet Pepsi it quickly fills up with fizz, and you have to wait for the level to go down and fill up again about two times. It’s madness!
@ELUNO that DRIVES me crazy as well! I noticed it at work (Pre covid) and if I was in a hurry I would pivot to Diet Coke because it took to long to get a full cup of Diet Pepsi/Pepsi Zero.
@ELUNO well, we DID! And the Pepsi machine was one of the fancy ones like they have at the movie theater…electronic, where you can mix in flavors. Aahhhh the good ole days of 2019!!
At home I have whatever can I can find at the store. I hear the office has shut off both machines and if you want to purchase a beverage it is based upon whatever bottles of soda/water they have available.
Sugar both increases viscosity and surface tension, allowing regular Coke to form larger bubbles that are weaker and pop faster. Diet Coke, on the other hand, forms smaller, stronger bubbles that pop much slower."
Maybe this is kind of gross but if you put your finger in the foam it will go down rapidly and you can fill it 1 time without waiting. If you touch your nose before you put your finger in it will speed it up even more,
I know even chips are having the same kind of issues, some flavors are not at the stores because with the volume people are buying, Frito-Lay is concentrating on the most popular flavors. They’d rather be out of hot dill pickle for example than out of classic.
@kevinrs I don’t really eat chips but I’ve noticed it when trying to grab a bag or two for my parents. Dad prefers one of the flavors not being produced. I look every time but haven’t seen them for a few months.
I asked the pepsi guy, and he said there was an aluminum shortage. Pepsi will only be making liter bottles, and the small cans for the less popular options of pepsi. Pepsi max(the original name) is my drug…not happy!
It’s Mtn Dew Zero for me. Been scrounging a 6-pack here and there. Weirdly, can more often find singles in the checkout area – like those have a different distributor. Don’t have a link to the article, but the theory I believe is shortage of artificial sweetener imported from China.
I have a friend who is a Fresca nut and has been trying to find it with very little luck. I think he said he found two cases in June but that was it since late March. I feel for the guy.
I was kinda a serious addict re sugar free soft drinks.
Then I stopped drinking acidic carbonated soft drinks such as Pepsi, Coke, MTN Dew products, etc. Concerned about the acidity.
And then my serious chronic sinus infections went away.
(These infections were constant, and I did had several surgeries to open things up, each surgery helped for some years.)
This is, of course, strictly anecdotal, and a completely unproven (as to causation) chain of events.
according to pepsi employees on reddit
due to the beer plague , everything at pepsi is going to shattt
right now they are only focusing on keeping the 3 big products in stock, pepsi , normal diet pepsi, and normal my dew
everything else is low in stock
@communistjack

Huh, I’ve had a hard time finding Coke Zero too.
@dave bet it is the same issue…

So help me god if they stop making Diet Coke I’m gonna die.
@willdavi I feel the same way about Pepsi Zero…Diet Pepsi will do, I guess. SIGH

@cinoclav don’t be a Debbie Downer. We like our cola wrapped up in its nice aspartame bow.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@tinamarie1974 It’s your health, not mine…
@cinoclav it is and I am pretty sure everything will kill you - at least that is what they say. Wine is good for you, but too much…liver damage. Eat dark chocolate, too much…diabetes. Eat your fruits and veggies…aaahhh fruits, natures candy!

I personally think everything in moderation

@cinoclav Dr. Mercola is a hack fraud, show me some peer reviewed articles about aspertame

@christinejudge Then I would suggest something with Stevia if someone absolutely requires a sugar substitute.
@jmoor783 Just an example. But if you can’t see the history and problems with it, you pretty much deserve what you get by consuming it.

@tinamarie1974 you have BOTH Pepsi AND Coke?!? Fancy!

@ELUNO @tinamarie1974 whatever the reason, it’s why you should choose diet soda for the mentos soda fountain.
/google why does diet soda fizz more
Diet Coke Takes Longer to Pour in Flight, Flight Attendants Lament …

And the answer from the search:
@RiotDemon @tinamarie1974 Ha, I read that same article back in June. I still hate that I have to wait extra time to drink my delicious diet sodas.
Maybe this is kind of gross but if you put your finger in the foam it will go down rapidly and you can fill it 1 time without waiting. If you touch your nose before you put your finger in it will speed it up even more,
Omg I ran to the store today and they HAD PEPSI ZERO. I grabbed 2 cases so that should hold me for a while!!!
I should have complained sooner
@tinamarie1974 Pepsi Zero the new toilet paper???

I’ve often had problems finding it in my area. It’s a shame, cause to me it tastes the best of all the colas.
I have no problem consuming zero Pepsi, regardless of the pandemic
I asked the pepsi guy, and he said there was an aluminum shortage. Pepsi will only be making liter bottles, and the small cans for the less popular options of pepsi. Pepsi max(the original name) is my drug…not happy!

Dr. Jarvis Pym : Sodium Calcium Chloride, do you know what that is?
Maxwell Smart : An artificial sweetener?
Dr. Jarvis Pym : No, it’s the second most deadly poison in the world.
Maxwell Smart : What’s the first?
Dr. Jarvis Pym : Artificial sweetener.
BTW, also discovered Mtn Dew Zero has more caffeine than regular or diet. Also true for Pepsi Zero.
@walarney so even more addicting, interesting.
I have a friend who is a Fresca nut and has been trying to find it with very little luck. I think he said he found two cases in June but that was it since late March. I feel for the guy.
Fwiw
