Pasta Drop
14I only ordered once, but it was a memorable experience. My girlfriend at the time, now my wife is half Italian; her mother was from Naples. So pasta is ingrained in her life.
So one day, I said to myself, “Self, time to order some Ziti.”
Several days later, 80 pounds of Ziti appeared on my front porch. She was incredulous. “Why did you order so much?” She didn’t understand how it worked.
We shared it with friends and family. We gave 40 pounds to my brother-in-law’s church camp. We have just finished it up. It was quite good.
So that’s my story; thank you Meh.

I don’t know which part of my story is better. My friend finally figuring out why there was 100 pounds of pasta at his house or when I asked if he was sure it was all gone after I sent him a seconds batch of Noods.
I dropped noods on 3 different people. It took them by complete surprise I believe, but what shocked me was that I didn’t get a single “care package” returned to me, nor did I get an invitation to a pasta dinner…
Without warning, the ever-effervescent @Trillian managed to drop 160 pounds of noods on me spanning the course of 3-4 days! Living in a town of less than 1200 souls, I was simultaneously the bane and hot topic of our local postal carrier. Several bags went to less fortunate families through the food pantry and my family finally finished the last bag of penne about a year after the drop.
I recall being told about PastaDrop, and thinking that there had to be some kind of an undisclosed gotcha involved. It was literally both too good to be true and too surreal to be true. So I never followed up on it, and so I never got targeted by it. But, last year, I will note that an echo of it landed on me; I got twenty pounds of very good linguine in an IRK. We’re still working through it.
My folks ended up with over 300 pounds in 3 drops, with the majority of it from the last “random” drop. Donated/gifted/inflicted to others about half of it all – and they still have about 30 pounds left.
