@KDemo But do you really need something that's just a blend of a food processor and a... aah what's that thing called? You know, the kitchen mixy choppy thing?
I've had an immersion blender for about 15 years and think I've used it about 3 times. Seems other kitchen gadgets cover all the functionality already.
@VeeDubTDI Yeah I am definitely not en electrician. That was just the explanation I found online as to why foreign kitchen products are listed with higher wattages. If you have any idea why then I'd love to hear it!
@Moose I have no idea why they'd call it 600W. If the motor draws 210 watts, it will do that at 120 volts or 240 volts - only the current draw (amperage) will be different - 1.75 amps vs 0.95 amps respectively.
@Moose I believe the reason is due to the peak output, which isn't a totally practical number, but sounds high and sells better. I dug into this a little when I was in the market for a blender. For this, while the peak output power is 600W, it's not going to be operating at that during regular use. Just before the blades spin, there might be a surge about that, but it's just for the slightest moment.
As someone who had 200W model which was weak and barely blended soup, then moved to 800W model (all from different manufacturers) power makes huge difference. If this model is only 200W you'll be able to use it for soft stuff only, don't even dream about crushing ice.
These things are the best for salsa, because you basically fill the bowl with salsa stuff and then you end up with the perfect amount. No measuring, just fill the bowl. And since you don't measure, it's a little different each time.
Bought a similar Cuisinart version over at woot! about two weeks ago for $30 and it was definitely more powerful than the 120V GE/Wal-mart stick blender I had previously.
This feels like exactly the kind of product purchase that ends with me in the E.R. with someone saying the words, "ok just apply pressure to the wound...and explain to me again why you were blending pantsless..."
I think I really want one, but why do I really need it? What can one actually use it for in everyday life? Or will or just take up counter/drawer space and not be used? Can I use it to mix cookie/cake batter? Or is this a didferent type of mixer? Suggestions welcome! (Nice, honest ones) Thanks!
@wildmomo probably not much for cookie dough. The whisk would probably be ok for cake batter. It's really for blending small amounts of stuff (experiment with making your own bbq sauce?), emulsifying eggy things like homemade mayo or hollandaise sauce, pureeing soups or sauces in the pot, and, with that food processor attachment, chopping up small batches of things like salsa.
Tempting. This looks much sturdier than the "beat" up, old, mostly plastic, Braun we have. Virtually everything we own with a Panasonic label on it is excellent.
BTW, I enjoyed the "extra blendy" feature description.
I wonder - will the "chopper" attachment really "chop"? Someone in our house keeps using my coffee bean grinder to turn walnuts into powder. But I like plain coffee, not walnut-flavored coffee.
@djslack Actually, it's the fresh whipped cream that turns any old ordinary dessert into a special one. The funny thing is how easy and quick it is with a whisk blender. Takes less than 30 secs. Pour an inch of heavy whipping cream into the blender cup. A pinch of sugar, a drop of vanilla, and blend for 20 to 30 secs, until slightly firm. I learned to do it in College while tending bar at the Chart House. One of our prep tasks was to make the whipping cream for the Mud pies.
I love making hummus and salsa but rarely do it because the old food processor we have is a royal PITA to clean. Gonna give this a go. Maybe I'll even try making soups.
@matapat Really? I've had your typical Cuisinart food processor for years and my favorite thing about it is that you can just take it apart and throw it in the dishwasher to clean it. Wish all my kitchen appliances were diswasherable!
@MrEricSir Wish even one of my kitchen appliances were a dishwasher! I still love my old Cusinart food processor, but it sure has a lot of parts to clean up. My immersion blender, OTOH, is a breeze to wash. Plus, who wants to bother transferring soup from the pot to the food processor? You can't load too much in there at one time, if you're making a large quantity of soup. But you can stick the stick in the pot, and puree away. Works great.
@ryokimball I don't have experience with this blender, but I got a set of trays that make 1/2" cubes for my cheap blender. I imagine it's a lot easier on the motor even for a blender that can handle big cubes.
My wife does not approve of the immersion blender I already have. Apparently "more chunks" is a feature of soup. If I didn't already have one I would be all over this deal, so... When your life partner complains, ignore the troll and buy the random crap that you want...YOLO
Very clever going straight to The Sweethome, Meh. I would've posted that review in here myself, particularly since I've been considering one for a while. This seems like a worthy candidate. But I shall hold off until morning to see if I can fit the budget.
Nice deal on a solid looking immersion blender. Reminds me of one of my best woot purchases which was also an immersion blender. When they had some weird European only Morphy Richards blender. I jumped on it and the thing is indeed a beast. Still rocking too. http://www.woot.com/offers/morphy-richards-food-fusion-hand-blender-may-14
I know this is a good deal, and have considered an immersion blender in the past, but I really don't know what I would do with it. At no point during any of my daily food prep do I wish I had something like this. What am I missing?
@ACraigL It's good for thick soups - like squash, or potato and leek. It can help make mashed potatoes creamier. But if you have never been in your kitchen and thought, "I need to blend this, but it's too hot to put in a blender." Then you probably don't need this.
@ACraigL Some sauces as well. Used to make a really delicious walnut marjoram sauce for pasta (pesto-esque), and my immersion blender made quick work of it.
Scrambled eggs (with or w/out cheese), omelets, pancake & waffle batter, smoothies, shakes, jello, pudding... the current one gets used quite often around here so I'm giving this one a whirl. Bonus that the kids think it's entertaining -- Thanks, Meh! :)
I wanted this last night, but have an almost 20 yr old Braun immersion blender so I made myself wait. Sold out. Well, I should start using the Braun more often and maybe I can justify it next time. If I hadn't already had the Braun, this would've been a must have.
Just got mine, looks decent, it's got a heft to it, solid feel. Gonna go get some ice cream and some malt powder and test it out making a malt. Thanks meh.
Got mine, the blender attachment made a little bit of an unusual noise (moaning, like maybe a bearing issue?) when I spun it up. Will have to test it out and blend something and see if i need to get in touch with Panasonic or if I'm just being paranoid.

This would probably cause radio interference if you used it too close to your speaker docks.
this is making me stir crazy!
@rv69 - I'm thinking of giving it a whirl.
@KDemo But do you really need something that's just a blend of a food processor and a... aah what's that thing called? You know, the kitchen mixy choppy thing?
@rv69 This thing has my head spinning.
@derpandabar Yes, you do. So that you can blend things directly in the pot. Soups, etc. It's very efficient.
@rv69 Maybe I'll finally immerse myself into kitchen gadgetry and throw this into the mix.
I've had an immersion blender for about 15 years and think I've used it about 3 times. Seems other kitchen gadgets cover all the functionality already.
@jeraden we make soup a lot. Really handy for purring in the pot. But I can't think of much else we use it for.
@OneMHz I hear it's great for making body butters and soaps and the like... but I can't say I've used mine for that purpose.
@jeraden Use ours every flippin' morning for smoothies. Less mess than a regular blender.
@OneMHz If I heard purring in the pot I'd freak out, haven't owned a cat in decades.
@OneMHz Mash Potatoes, smoothies
"210W motor (some retailers list as 600W due to regional differences in voltage)"
Wattage doesn't change with voltage; amperage does.
@VeeDubTDI Yikes! Here you go, you need this! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohm%27s_law
@VeeDubTDI 210 is RMS power, 600 is Peak power, the difference is a factor of 2sqrt2 about 2*1.414
@Moose I believe the reason is due to the peak output, which isn't a totally practical number, but sounds high and sells better. I dug into this a little when I was in the market for a blender. For this, while the peak output power is 600W, it's not going to be operating at that during regular use. @satih Seeing as the cheapest stick blender with 800W I see on Amazon is over $400, I don't know that's a practical comparison.
Marketed in the Middle East and Australia. So it's great for hummus and tim tams. 5 stars.
@GiantTarget Tim Tam Explosions are the most amazing thing. If you have not ever tried this, try to find some Tim Tams and do so.
this > http://australianfood.about.com/od/discoveraussienzfood/a/TimTamSlam.htm
@GiantTarget Weird, I just saw a small stack of Tim Tams in a Target today, and now I know I should have bought them.
Ooh, homemade salsa. I guess there WILL be nachos!
These things are the best for salsa, because you basically fill the bowl with salsa stuff and then you end up with the perfect amount. No measuring, just fill the bowl. And since you don't measure, it's a little different each time.
Took me a minute to find that secret Fuku link in the description. So excited!!
@studerc you wot mate?
@studerc Uh-huh.
@studerc All your Fuku's are belong to us!
@studerc @jjohns71 @haydesigner @Stallion Is it still active? I can't find it using my tablet. Is it easier to find on a PC?
@studerc If true, awesome and congrats! I have no idea what or where you found it.
@ACraigL me either
Don't feed the trolls.
I'm thinking of getting this to use on those jlab ear buds....
Meh, I have Ninja blender, do not need another blender.
1x Beaker
@TerriblyHuang meep!! meep meep!!!!!!
Bought a similar Cuisinart version over at woot! about two weeks ago for $30 and it was definitely more powerful than the 120V GE/Wal-mart stick blender I had previously.
The cuisinart immersion smartstick 2 is better and is basically always $25-30 at Costco.
@bigscary Costco says, "This product no longer available." http://reviews.costco.com/2070/11761902/suresource-cuisinart-smart-stick-two-speed-hand-blender-reviews/reviews.htm
@bigscary Costco only have two quantities: None, and shit-tons.
This feels like exactly the kind of product purchase that ends with me in the E.R. with someone saying the words, "ok just apply pressure to the wound...and explain to me again why you were blending pantsless..."
In other words, I'll take it!!
@Superjimtendo Look! Even I know this is not an adult toy.
@GeriatricDragon Maybe you just don't have the right accessories.
@AlohaSnackbar I truly don't believe the accessories should require a tourniquet.
Been wanting one for a while. Might as well be this one. exceptional-implicit-chive!
Hmmm. I have a walmart one but it does not have a whisk or a salsa cup/food processor. Guess I'm in for this.
@djslack Actually most one-piece stick blenders are more durable; the coupler area is a very common point of failure on units with replaceable heads.
Nice write up! Will it blend a speaker dock?
@Parri Will it blend?? http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/Will_It_Blend_Videos_346_2006.php
@wildmomo - And blending a morning smoothie right in your travel cup.
I just bought a Cuisinart three days ago. Why do you do this to me, Meh?
@Palidian Buy this one, too. Or your cuisinart will break one day past warranty.
Copy & paste this to 7 people within one hour or your refrigerator will also break.
@derpandabar now you're simply sounding like @snapster or @JonT.
@RedOak Thanks! I could do worse for comparisons :-P
I use my immersion blender with the whisk almost every day, to make fresh whipped cream for desserts in less than 30 secs.
@kench I want to eat at your house. I don't even have dessert most days, much less fancy dessert with fresh whipped cream. Jealous!
@djslack I bet it is Jello. Don't get too excited.
@Pamtha My desserts go from Maine blueberry pie, to bread pudding and tiramisu. Honestly, I've never made jello.
Can't wait for Wes Anderson to buy the rights to this part of the description:
"No wonder the Internet loves these things like they're Bill Murray and Neil DeGrasse Tyson racing on llama-back."
I have a Braun unit like this, this well worth the 25 bucks!
@MrEricSir But if they all were, then you'd need a larger dishwasher to dishwash your dishwasher in… and so on and so on…
@MrEricSir Wish even one of my kitchen appliances were a dishwasher!
Has same smart design cues as my cordless phone, camera, blow dryer, boombox and core muscle trainer (wink, wink)... 5 stars!
Hoping this thing blends ice well. Anyone have experience on the matter?
@ryokimball I don't have experience with this blender, but I got a set of trays that make 1/2" cubes for my cheap blender. I imagine it's a lot easier on the motor even for a blender that can handle big cubes.

Go ahead and say it, it kinda looks like a magic wand! Don't try using it like one though.
Very clever going straight to The Sweethome, Meh. I would've posted that review in here myself, particularly since I've been considering one for a while. This seems like a worthy candidate. But I shall hold off until morning to see if I can fit the budget.
In for a malleable-facetious-skunk…sounds unpromising as a food prep device but whatever…
I need an immersion blender.... and I kept waiting for a sale... then I swing over to meh and you are selling one from down unda? I'm in! Thanks meh.
I expect for this staff for a long time.....I am crazy for it...
Nice deal on a solid looking immersion blender. Reminds me of one of my best woot purchases which was also an immersion blender. When they had some weird European only Morphy Richards blender. I jumped on it and the thing is indeed a beast. Still rocking too.
http://www.woot.com/offers/morphy-richards-food-fusion-hand-blender-may-14
Neat Gizmo, already have 2 of one brand or another.
Hyper Decanter
CAUTION NSFS (NOT SAFE FOR SNOBS)
I have been idly browsing for one of these for about a month now. This was enough to make me go for it.
No Georgia Red. . . for that alone, meh.
@Thumperchick Thanks TC. That helps. Sorry, Meh.
@ACraigL Some sauces as well. Used to make a really delicious walnut marjoram sauce for pasta (pesto-esque), and my immersion blender made quick work of it.
This is actually pretty nice. But I accidentally canceled my VMP membership yesterday morning while half asleep, so I'm not buying it. Meh indeed.
@Sparky_Susan better watch out then . . . you might "accidentally" buy this blender stick.
@RedOak Nope. I didn't take the wrong dosage of melatonin this time around. I'm good.
Scrambled eggs (with or w/out cheese), omelets, pancake & waffle batter, smoothies, shakes, jello, pudding... the current one gets used quite often around here so I'm giving this one a whirl. Bonus that the kids think it's entertaining -- Thanks, Meh! :)
the one thing that i actually wanted in two weeks gets sold out. I HATE YOU MEH
@sarahtarah step yo midnight game up
@mauisean It looks like there were plenty left at 9am EDT.
@sarahtarah just wait, someone in this thread will get buyers remorese, and then swoop in and take it from them
@nadroj Wasn't that right around when it sold out?
@mossygreen nope: "we sold out at 10:47 am ET" https://meh.com/deals/panasonic-handheld-immersion-blending-system
I wanted this last night, but have an almost 20 yr old Braun immersion blender so I made myself wait. Sold out. Well, I should start using the Braun more often and maybe I can justify it next time. If I hadn't already had the Braun, this would've been a must have.
Wyoming HATES immersion blenders (also, Greenies).
glad these sold out early, makes my decision easy...thanks meh for looking out for me
Sold out? Now I can't make a drink for the "Cheers meh" video.
Will have to test it out and blend something and see if i need to get in touch with Panasonic or if I'm just being paranoid.
just made soup with this thing, even using the prep attachment to dice my garlic and onions. thing works great.
you should genuinely sell it again so the suckers who missed out can have another shot.
@Lotsofgoats glad to hear that! I haven't had a chance to use mine yet so I was waiting for someone to drop by with a review.
Well this is fun. Blender broke. Sent it in for repair/replacement. Received it back broken with a sticker that says "Out of warranty".
@johntmeche3 that's definitely something to write into meh.com/support about.
@johntmeche3 That is crazy! Been using mine every week and hoping it doesn't go belly up!
Wanting to keep an eye on this and what meh support does!
