So what's a good (free) FLAC-playing app for Kit Kat? Google Play Music transcodes them to MP3s, and the other one I tried, andLess, didn't seem to have a way to open anything.
@editorkid neutron player (google play, apple app store, and i think a win version) is not free, tho they have a free trial. horrible ui. playlist mgmt from hell, tho u can import playlists. total bitchin sound tho, best from any android player now on the market i've listened to.
@f00l I listen mostly on the bus during commutes, so paying for a shitty experience and exquisite sound I'll be oblivious to is, well, overkill. Good to know it's out there though. I guess.
(please don't put a "meh" button to express one's opinion of the days offering on the site though...too much like faceyuck, it is more fun to just type it.)
the Cubik HD sounds better than speakers you plug into the headphone jack: because those speakers have to convert your computer's digital signal into analog
No, the conversion from digital to analog happens before the headphone jack. Headphones are analog. The selling point of these speakers is supposed to be that they have digital-to-analog circuitry that is superior to the 25¢ component your computer uses.
TOO MANY WIRES! One from the wall power outlet to the one speaker, another from the right to the left speaker, and a third from your iwhatever, tablet, PC to the speaker. What is this, the 90's?!
@becca I don't know about "surround sound" since it is only two speakers, but if you are asking if they can be hooked up to your TV, probably. Maybe not out of the box, but it does accept a 3.5mm aux input, so all you'd need is an RCA to mini aux plug cable (assuming you want to use RCA outs on your TV). If you only have digital outs, then you'd need a more expensive converter.

I just got mine and I am having trouble playing sound using the USB. When using aux the sound come through fine but have not been able to use either the micro USB or USB. Help.

so it's like a speaker dock with only one wire.....I see what you did there
@somf69 oh no, it has wires. Just no dock.
@curtise saw that and fixed that, thanks
@somf69 ...no...more wires...
@ChadP yea I cught that and fixed the post
So... pretty much nobody has reviews of these. Are they new to the market? (They can't be; this is meh.)
@Crixus Hooked them up in the office. Here is a review. They are attractive. Lossless audio from a phone is a nice feature. Take EQ well.
@Crixus The metal foot base is solid metal. Not likely to fall over. Also if you cut the cord, they could be used as really big dice.
@Crixus A review that I found informative:
Do these work with the Boxee Box?
@editorkid YES!!! Thank you! I've been trying to think of what they remind me of.
@editorkid They are not stackable, I mean look at the angles!
@caffeine_dude But maybe if everything's arranged just right, we can open a portal to the 10th dimension...
@crixus they're an upgraded version of the Cubik. Here's an amazon link with 11 reviews on that less capable version. Amazon Link
So basically these are the corner-less babies I'd have if I wanted a bitchin' set of portable speakers on the Battlestar Galactica?
@killdevil you ever stop and think about the work that went into creating those corner-less props?
or a borg ship, although there the fun use of the word bitchin would probably be gone
@killdevil looks a bit LEGO-esk up close. Build a Lego stand for your Phone to sit on and your stylin

@editorkid Take a look at VLC Media Player for Android. It's in late beta.

@f00l wow awesome comment! upvoted!

@f00l ok will stop now.
@parodymandotcom But how do I know I should take you seriously? (Just in case, though, thanks.)

As desperate as I am to click the buy button, I can't think of any possible use I might have for this.
@khunjeff Do it. You can send them to me and I'll think of something
@Kleineleh thanks for the kind offer bubeleh but I'll still have to pass
@khunjeff Offer stands. I just hate to see you so desperate

Pardon my technological ignorance, but can these be used with a tv as surround sound?
@becca not that I can tell from researching that.

I've been looking for some new office speakers without a subwoofer ever since the managers started complaining about my bass. Thanks Meh!
@phatmass Maybe you should have had a more subtle bass.

Ok, I guess I didn't read it carefully enough. I made my decision based on "works with iOS" and the product picture.
@mb2215 What do you think of the sound quality?
Don't know yet. Waiting on an iPhone connector.
@mb2215 how about your charging cable? that's all you need.
I just got mine and I am having trouble playing sound using the USB. When using aux the sound come through fine but have not been able to use either the micro USB or USB. Help.
@blopez5991 Does this help?

I want to buy it.

Ooh, so Woot just busted these out at $49.99. That's probably the first time I've seen them beat the Meh price so far.
@Cinoclav Game on.
@Cinoclav that's the non-HD version. You lose, Woot!
