Out with a bang? Interesting way to start a New Year?
13Sooo… Was glad to shake off 2018, and this is what greeted me…
Guess sometime around 4 am someone decided that my car would make a good target!!
It was parked neatly on the side of the road and was pushed about 15 feet backwards!
Totally slept through it all…
What REALLLLLY irritates me…my neighbors thought I had tied one on and parked that way! I won’t even drive if I have had a single drink (total lightweight!)… Sigh…

What a crappy way to start the New Year. I hope things go better for you the rest of the year.
@Barney coulda been much worse…
But buying a new to me car is like you buying a new phone… I hate car shopping with a passion!!
@mikibell Your car was totaled?
Edit: I also hate car shopping.
@Barney. I suspect it will be… Not much worth fixing on a 2002 with a bashed in front grill… And goodness knows what other components were damaged. Still waiting on the police before I try driving it.
@Barney @mikibell That stinks. I had a parked car that was hit and totaled on New Years. It was my first car too. I loved that car.
@Barney @mikibell @therealjrn And doesn’t this count as an accident even though you weren’t even in the car?! That shit just irks me to no end. Just glad you weren’t in it at the time.
@Barney @mfladd @mikibell Mine was covered by my insurance, but nothing could replace it of course. As far as I know, the police never found the culprit. I hope they messed up their vehicle just as bad.
Nooo! I’m sorry. Technically it’s a hit and run, except you weren’t in it at the time.
(Blame the goat?)
Isn’t there a goat to blame for this?
The guy was upstanding. Didn’t notice it originally, but he left his insurance card. When the cops showed up at his door, he admitted to hitting the car. We shall see how this plays out.
@mikibell Well hurray!
Oh man, that sucks. Had similar happen to us once. Insurance cut us a nice check tho. Way more than it took to fix.
Cool the dude was honest but in some states, knowing who the other insurer is can actually slowww the process whilst the companies argue.
Not that it matters much since your insurance company check will barely pay the down payment on a replacement if your car is totaled.
Sympathies.
Ugh! Sympathies and horrid memories. Years ago I was 2nd owner on a beautiful '72 Chevy Malibu. It was parked at the curb and some drunken douche in a beater ford went up ON the sidewalk, hit my car hard enough to knock it across the street and 2 doors down. Passenger side bumper was mashed nearly to the windshield and the hood was folded in half.
I got the guy’s plate number but it came back to a stolen vehicle. That car was never the same…
@jimeezlady ohhhh man…at least mine is a beat up piece of crap (MY piece of crap though )
My daughter points out only 1 of the last 15 car incidents for the hubs and me was while our cars were moving! The rest, the cars were parked or at stop signs/lights!
We each drive close to 20k miles a year, so I consider us very lucky!
What a downer way to start the NY.
But at least the guy stepped up.
Hope your find your way to a cheap asked good set of wheels! Or find a cheap bit reliable way to get this one back on the road.
