@bub78 Man, you should have been here a year earlier and you could have seen a speaker dock every Friday. Your jumping on board 89 days ago with us unfortunately coincided with our jumping on board with Onkyo for our 2nd deal with them. It was a biggie, but if you tell a shit-ton of your friends/co-workers/family/neighbors/random peeps walking down the street, etc, about this deal, I can assure you will never see this model being sold here again
@communist very helpful, thanks! I get a ton of info off the comments on things like this. I have 5.1 onkyo,it’s old with no HDMI, and I’ll need to move up soon. It’s just all those little things in life come up—root canal, car inspection–and all those health insurance co-pays. Sorry for the seriousness, it gets to me now and then.
My current Onkyo runs great, but it does run hot.
@wew Yep, sometimes you just don’t feel like watching every little thing in surround sound. It’s nice to be able to just use the TV speakers without getting the amp involved.
Hope I see this again! No, really!!! I want it so fracking bad but the timing is always all off! I had this same problem with that chick who has the big butt. Patience pays off sometimes.
It’s been 137 days since Meh last sold a Bluetooth speaker dock. So my lame forum comments about said gadgets have been accumulating.
I’m bored, I guess, and need a another annoyingly-repetitious product type to give my meaningless drivel an outlet.
@Yoda_Daenerys A fair question. And they might, except I am a bit of a drinkware collector/enthusiast. On the other hand, maybe it would be somewhat thereputic to write about one’s compulsive buying habits.
Want it- can’t afford it right now, so I’ll wait and hope.
I remember when Onkyo was a high end audio name [no not the highest,] but snobby nonetheless- how low they have fallen…
@PhysAssist wow, i think i just heard my bubble burst, or Meh.be it was some other noise, but i bought some onkyo from Meh. a while back thinking they are still high end
@PhysAssist As have items such as Dysons and Roombas, both considered high end in their respective categories. Just because it’s sold here doesn’t automatically make it crap.
@megalomani Maybe try one model up the product line instead? It’s a bit pricier, but thanks to inspiration from Meh I just bought this one because the phono made it worth it for me. Plus it’s got more HDMI inputs. The refurbs have a nice discount and a warranty from Onkyo.
@itsherediatary It’s a special type of input that allows you to connect a record turntable without having a special separate box called a preamp. A preamp amplifies and equalizes the signal coming from the record player so you can hear it and subsequently groove. Thing of a phono input as an input with a built-in preamp. The phono input looks just like any other ordinary pair of red and white input jacks, but I have outed its secret power, just for you.
Although I could have saved $15 had I waited a few months, I have no regrets about purchasing this model from MEH first time it was offered. IMO, it’s excellent ONKYO equipment at a great price.
@texquill I just bought mine! It seemed like a good deal. I was reading lots and lots of reviews and it seems like a good receiver for a first time buyer!
Can anyone recommend a receiver that supports 5.1.4 to keep an eye on? Obviously I am price sensitive on this. I got 4 ceiling speakers I need to power here so this one is a MEH for me.
@claybones Huh? If you have 4 ceiling speakers they would typically be ran two as the fronts and two as the rears to give you a 4.0 setup. You could add a center and sub for 5.1, but not needed. This receiver would handle that just fine.
I’m really enjoying my earlier purchase of this receiver. The calibration or maybe just the receiver makes the surround so much better then the Onkyo it replaced. I have not set up Atmos though I did buy the 5th element with the Atmos track, and Fury Road
@midcontrast Not sure but I think I heard that a sound system is a requirement for a new house. Kind of like a stove, or heating system. Roll the meh purchase into the mortgage payment! Great idea!!! Nothing says Merica like indebtedness.
Well, I finally pulled the trigger. After 678 days of being a member around here, I made my first purchase. This feels good.
I’ve been running a HTIB system for a few years now and I’ve finally had enough. Time to invest in some upgrades and I feel like at this price-point for the features, I can’t beat it. Thanks for the comments and links - some of them were a big help with some questions I had.
@atx85 I felt the need to star your post simply because it saddened me that you’ve been around for 678 days and have never received a star. (Though it would probably be easier if you actually posted a bit more often.) So, welcome to the buyers club. It’s all downhill from here.
I bought this last time around. I’m very happy with it. The CEC control works great with my TV. My only complaint is that Zone 2 does not work with digital sources.
Back on June 29th you offered Onkyo Dolby Atmos Network Receiver with AirPlay, WiFi and Bluetooth. Shortly thereafter you offered some Atmos speakers with the promise that you would have another Atmos amp offering. When will that happen?
Sorry to bump such an old thread but I was wondering if anyone else had bought one of these receivers and is experiencing a total failure of the unit to recognize button presses or remote control.
The unit will power itself on (due to HDMI communication from my TV or PS5). But none of the buttons or volume controls work. It will also place itself into standby mode if I turn off the TV/PS5. But that’s really the only way it will work for now.
Anyone else experience these symptoms with this or any other Onkyo receiver??

Meh receiver – sounds about right eh?
Speakers please. Thanks
@Ignorant I agree, we need speakers sans bluetooth
@Yoda_Daenerys oh yes I should’ve specified that. Standard speakers and subwoofers please meh. Thanks

My current Onkyo runs great, but it does run hot.
@wew if i were you, i’d spring for it at this price, i only wish i hadn’t bought the earlier onkyo and pioneer receivers
If Onkyo had not repaired my woot purchased receiver I’d be in. I’d like to hear these home theater “atmos” receivers first hand though.
i think someone in the Meh. steel cage match wanted one of these, am i right @narfcake @jbartus @carl699 @jbaqui63 @compunaut?
@Yoda_Daenerys I did… and then I bought a badass Yamaha receiver on Craigslist this weekend for $180. My crystal ball let me down I guess.
@jbartus package delivered today, btw
@Yoda_Daenerys I know. I am busy composing a thread.
@jbartus just wanted to be sure the receptionist didn’t make off with it
@Yoda_Daenerys what receptionist? Did you stalk my package?
I told myself I’d buy this the next time it came up. Anyone know if it has HDMI pass-thru so you can watch TV without having to power on the receiver?
Nevermind, says it does pass-thru in the manual.
@jsh139 oh, thanks! I never knew why people asked about HDMI pass-thru’s! Now I know what they do.
@wew Yep, sometimes you just don’t feel like watching every little thing in surround sound. It’s nice to be able to just use the TV speakers without getting the amp involved.
Bought one last time. It’s greatness.
Hope I see this again! No, really!!! I want it so fracking bad but the timing is always all off! I had this same problem with that chick who has the big butt. Patience pays off sometimes.
Onkyo can suck it. – a Pioneer VSX-1121-K owner.
Dont have this model but love my Onkyo receivers.

@UncleEdZed Contigos or Bubbas don’t get you to pontificating?
@Yoda_Daenerys A fair question. And they might, except I am a bit of a drinkware collector/enthusiast. On the other hand, maybe it would be somewhat thereputic to write about one’s compulsive buying habits.
@UncleEdZed hmmm, maybe that is why i am spending more time in the Meh. forums
Almost an hour in. 18 comments. Only 4 stars. Odd.
I’m sleepy and felt a bit bad, so added a star to every comment (except mine). Bored too I guess.
@RedOak Heres a star for a fellow bored Mehmber.
Want it- can’t afford it right now, so I’ll wait and hope.

@Yoda_Daenerys Don’t take my words for gospel, but these are being sold on Meh,
@PhysAssist As have items such as Dysons and Roombas, both considered high end in their respective categories. Just because it’s sold here doesn’t automatically make it crap.
@cinoclav I know- that’s why I keep spending here
As a Whovian, I’m suspicious of any product with the word “Atmos” in it.
No phono stage = .
/giphy where is the phono
@megalomani Maybe try one model up the product line instead? It’s a bit pricier, but thanks to inspiration from Meh I just bought this one because the phono made it worth it for me. Plus it’s got more HDMI inputs. The refurbs have a nice discount and a warranty from Onkyo.

@doogs What’s phono? Not sure I know what that means… I only know little when it comes to surround sound.

@doogs Dude. Thanks for the enlightenment! This will aid me in future audio purchases. Thank ya, kindly.

Be aware that the Airplay is audio only. I thought it was video and the main reason I bought it. Now I have an extra Sony 7.1 device.

Barney whispers, “Good job mediocrebot.”
@Barney are you whispering so you don’t knock the house down?
@Yoda_Daenerys I’m thinking about becoming The Bot Whisperer.
I just bought this! This will be my very first receiver and from what I can tell, it seems like a pretty good one to start off with!
Get the app; use it on my tablet…much better than the provided remote.
It arrived today. Quick!
Back on June 29th you offered Onkyo Dolby Atmos Network Receiver with AirPlay, WiFi and Bluetooth. Shortly thereafter you offered some Atmos speakers with the promise that you would have another Atmos amp offering. When will that happen?
@purwin you’re welcome.
@purwin I take it back…just speakers. Sorry.
