@cinoclav Actually I always thought that was a weird Urban Myth but once someone posted Coast Guard guidelines for AC receptacles on marine vessels and for some reason it actually made sense. Though not sure the big cruise ships actually still have that type of system or rule.
@cinoclav@pmarin To save folks the search (“surge protectors coast guard”): the document is concerned about marine outlets that provide two 60V hot legs (weird), instead of a neutral and a hot (typical). So stuff that “trips” just the one (assumed) hot leg won’t work in the both-hot case.
Would buy this but I bought similar ones from Home Depot a few years ago (not this exact one or brand but looked very similar) and 2 out of 4 failed pretty quickly. But this might be very fine no worries after all it’s a Mehrathon what could go wrong?
@danhallock I like that term. Back in primary school in the liberal hippie progressive 1970s, we learned that we would all be using the metric system within 10 years. So we learned all the conversions and how stuff was going to be in liters and kilometers. And this was handy knowledge because at least I knew what was going on when I went to Europe. But here in the U.S it all fizzled and here we are the “last” country in the world to use a totally outdated system. 'Merica we #1 Hoorah!

With no surge protector this would be an ideal power strip to take on a cruise ship. They do not allow surge protectors.

@pmarin They absolutely still have the rule. I was just on a cruise in December.

You wonder how many of these had to burn up before they decided 1382℉ was the limit. Not 1381℉.
And 1383℉ would definitely be bad.
@pmarin Boring I know, but it’s just a nice round 750°C, converted to Patriot Units.
