@Barney My wife and I and our Golden Retriever Jemaine were in Oregon all last week. First we visited my wife's sister and her husband and their 16 border collies. Then we visited my birth-mom and half-sister and her husband and their two kids and one Dachshund. I didn't have much time for hanging out here. The four weekends before that I was playing in the band for a production of The Producers. That takes a surprising amount of time and energy.
@SSteve Gah! You made me realize that I suck at vacation. One week away from home and I've pretty much moved into the forum. Maybe I can blame the fact that I'm visiting Texas?
@SSteve I love Border Collies. Over the years, I've owned three (one, I called a borderline collie) and an Australian Shepherd. Great dogs! Anyway, missed you.
@moondrake A lot of them are in kennels up in the barn, so it’s not like they’re all running around underfoot. But there is a lot of barking and my sister-in-law is constantly having to go tend to dogs and working sheep with them. It’s certainly exhausting for her.
@Barney Since this thread got necro’d (not by me!) I read your comment about owning Border Collies. Guess what happened in Feb 2016? We got a Border Collie. Her name is Winnie. We call her a Border Patrol because she wants to bark at anything outside that makes its presence known. We’re working on modifying that behavior. Other than that, she’s a sweetheart and a rocket scientist. She and Jemaine love each other to pieces.

@mfladd Exactly. You knew I was busy. It's the only reason I'm not 100% convinced that you are only doing all of this to divert our destructive energy away from yourself. (Don't get me wrong... I'm still about 90% convinced.) In any case, don't underestimate our ability to multitask.

Most of the geography of the rest of the US is contained in our single state, from purple mountain’s majesty to waving fields of grain. We have mountains, rivers, lakes, swamps, hills, plains, deserts, beaches. Like everywhere else we have smart people and stupid ones, good hearted people and mean spirited ones. Unfortunately, for far too long we’ve let the stupid, mean spirited ones write our laws and policies, and as a result Texas is at or near the top of too many lists you don’t want to win (#1 in people in prison, #1 in high school dropouts, #1 in repeat teen pregnancies, #4 in uninsured people). Well, at least I’m halfway to LA. But I sure wish we could make this beautiful state a better place for her people to live.
