Not ready for primetime.
0If you don't have enough for anyone to purchase within an hour of it going on-sale, you may not be up for the whole deal-a-day thing.
Do better. Restrict to one item per member when inventory is limited, have another item for sale...do something. Get a bit of imagination--not like this is the first time.

They knew how many items they had before they decided to do the deal. So it must have been enough to make the money they wanted/needed to make for the day.
Then they sold them all.
I'd call that success.
What a dumb thing to say.
I can see that, I mean they were stupid enough to sell woot.... oh yeah, they created woot... never mind.
...Also, I got three so, suck it!
@badmnky Also wasn't there that $10 million?
They bought what they could, and sold them all. SUCSSESS
@givemeyoursoul You fail at spelling. Success!!
@smokeandlights Sucksess!
But they godda take into consideration that there are many, many more credit cards floatin' around then there were a few short months ago.. Don't whine for more buyers while keeping the same selling quotas.. The mehple will think you did it on purpose. The mehple care!!
@unkabob Exactly. The increased demand means increased quantities need to be available. Sellouts are fabulous, and we all WANT to have occasional "oh man, the people that were online at midnight Eastern got a heck of a deal" jealous surge occasionally. That encourages us to keep coming back, and perhaps a few people convert to midnight checkers, but there has been such a glut of early sellouts lately that I am becoming tired of them myself. If the ratio of availability does not improve, I will be one of many Christmas VMP that will cancel and be gone before 2/24. We were given membership, but there is nearly nothing to purchase,
@Pamtha ... It really shouldn't all be on their shoulders.. Maybe they thought this 'experiment' wouldn't work out but they really should have anticipated the odds of success. Maybe they'll iron it all out eventually.. I'm willing to invest five bucks a month to find out but then again, my curiosity only extends so far but I'm not ready to give up right now, I'm willing to keep the faith.
@Pamtha True that
This is capitalism, not socialism!
Do you know what kind of deals have really awesome prices? The ones with limited quantities. When they start getting "deals" that will let every single person buy one they won't get the huge discount of an odd lot but instead we will be paying 5% below retail like on woot. You know the old saying: The early bird gets the worm and the rest want the worms to equally distribute themselves in the dirt and show up at regular intervals so the others have a "fair chance".
@zacatac That is good. (<-- spolen like Lady Violet, Dowager Countess of Grantham)
This stuff is closeouts, remainders, previous models and so forth. I would bet there ISN'T more of this stuff to buy at the prices they are getting it.
@givemeyoursoul Exactly. Although unless they just have a hard time finding sales they could run these in 2 hour intervals up to 12 deals a day sale until sold out or just part of a mass offering selection deal with multiple purchases. I just hate things being sold out with 23 hours to next item. Not because I don't catch the deal ( I do pretty much everyday ) but just because that is 23 hours with no movement. In other news I wish they would do more 3rd party offerings but in a different way. Such as bathroom day where they sell towel bars, mirrors, bath mats, towels. Or Lawn care day where you could buy trimmers, mowers, rakes, shovels, caskets, or speaker dock day where they offer 10 different kinds of speaker docks, speaker rocks and speaker socks. All done 3rd party so they don't have to house thousands of items that may or may not sell but allow a variance of themed items at a great discount.
@Outofmymind sounds like you might want to visit woot.com for your non-one-deal-per-day desires.
@curtise No, I said I wanted discounted items, not 2% off amazon. Look I wasn't suggesting 15 different deal tabs, just some new ways of doing things.
@Outofmymind caskets as lawn care items?
@tightwad Well it could be a variety of caskets. Pet caskets in 3 sizes, and a extra large for that lousy neighbor next door. I think my point was lost however in my original post. Say for example instead of selling 3 different knives over a month period, lump the options into 1 day, or and they do this somewhat already with some items, allow more models or options on the daily themed item. Such as instead of pillow bundles 1 day and comforters another, have a bed themed day where you could purchase pillows, comforters, sheets and sex toys in one days offering.
@tightwad They're for the worms to hide in. There's a song about it. I learned it as a child and passed it on to my child. Ah, traditions.
Being open for business for an hour on the weekends seems to me like a good way to retain employees. Selling all your inventory is better than not... if their goal was unbridled expansion they'd be doing the things you suggest, and more, and become woot 2.0. but it seems very clear that there is a non-trivial amount of consumer philosophy underpinning how they choose to run the site. Like everybody says over and over, if you don't like it then why are you here?
This is just what this forum needs, another thread bitching about sellouts.

If you don't like the way the game is played--stop your bitching and go away.
