Dave Barry wrote a column in the 90s about how people can’t whistle any more and it’s causing real problems because the way to get rid of an earworm is pass it to someone else. I can’t find it online, so maybe it was in one of his books.
I have an earworm every waking minute. Between that and the constant tinnitus, it’s a wonder I can hear anything else. Eh, at least they drown out the voices.
@lisagd I have one every waking moment too! I don’t always mind, only when it’s a song I don’t like. Advertising jingles are especially bad. I detest Empire Flooring, Oscar Meyer weiners, Stanley Steemer and several others for that reason. If they come up on TV and I can’t get to the mute button I stick my fingers in my ears and go “lalaLAla” until they’re over!!!
@Kyeh I’m glad I’m not the only one! The song “Come on Eileen” is especially sticky for me, so much so that my ex used to “threaten” me with it to get me to do (or stop doing) something.
I just gave myself the earworm from writing this. Dammit!
Pretty sure that’s what is called an earworm. They say to get rid of one, listen to the entire song through to the finish.
But this (music) video is another great example of “Just because you can does not mean you should.”

@lisagd YES - I hate that one! Also anything by Don McLean!
@Kyeh You don’t like Vincent?
@yakkoTDI No, not really.
