No kill shelter broken into twice in 2 days, trashed needs help, was going to help lisaviolet

I volunteer at CARA, a no kill shelter. On the 17th and again on the 18th they were broken into and need more help than what the local community is already doing/giving.

Here is a news video after the first break in:

The intruders trashed the place, nearly liberated the cats from the cat building (second locked door defeated them otherwise all the cats would have escaped as they are mostly not caged and every door they broke was left open), cut through the fences in multiple places affecting their ability to let the dogs run in the dog park off a leash, damaged the shelter’s vehicle breaking into it (likely to be totaled out and we all know it is hard to replace an older vehicle with what insurance pays), stole things including even animal supplies (some of the stolen animal blankets, leashes, etc. were found in the abandoned house next to them). They operate only on donations.

The local community has been generous but they still need money to replace and repair what wasn’t covered by insurance and the local community efforts. Importantly 4 businesses in particular are volunteering their time and money to fix some of the damage, but there are still a ways to go from having enough money to take care of everything destroyed or damaged. Although not on the repair list, they like to put in a monitored security system and cameras (this shelter is in a less safe part of town) so that if this happens again, they can (amongst other things) get someone from the shelter there quickly to round up any animals that may have escaped. This particular shelter operates only on donations.

When @lisaviolet posted (https://meh.com/forum/topics/know-anyone-who-wants-a-kitty?sort=most-likes) about her friend who died and left behind 3 kitties that landed in a kill shelter on the opposite side of the country from her and 1/2 across the country from me, I texted the director of CARA for help. The plan had been to activate CARA’s network (they also are involved in transport of animals between shelters and another network that pulls animals from high kill shelters) to help get those kitties into a no kill shelter, or even back here if need be.

Fortunately we didn’t need her help after all because after a morning of calls I found a local no kill shelter that agreed to take those kitties, the kill shelter was willing to work with the no kill shelter, transportation, everything was taken care of between the two shelters, and the kitties are now safe.

When I moved from staying with others when I was homeless to the HUD housing I am in now I had to rehome some of my cats as I was not permitted to bring all of them with me. CARA made it a priority to place them into good homes (even though they said they were full), in fact the director kept two of them at her house, bringing them with her to the shelter each day so they’d be seen, putting them in a quiet room where they wouldn’t be as stressed out, given me updates on them and my other two (yes I had a lot of cats, some were long term fosters that I loved and hoped were never placed, still have my oldest ones and one 6 year old) she placed since they were placed.

They are good people. That is how the director of this no kill shelter is - willing to help regardless of where the help is needed. Now they need some help. Here is their contact info:
