@chienfou@mike808 oh I know I know it from hearing you all and I also know I was butchering vis-a-vis. Not sure what happened there although I was never going to use the accent marks
@chienfou@mike808@unksol@werehatrack
At the Oscars tonight, a joke was made about Jada and she didn’t like it so Will Smith went on stage and slapped Chris Rock and then yelled that Chris keeps Wills wife’s name out of his fucking mouth.
@Ignorant@mike808@unksol@werehatrack
WOW! Had no idea any of that had happened. I guess that’s what I get for being at work last night… Not that I’ve watched the Oscar ceremony in the last 25 years or more
@chienfou@Ignorant@macromeh@unksol@werehatrack
Will Smith was definitely ad-libbing, and not in a good or flattering way. He insisted that he and Jada sit in the most prominent “look at me” table in the theatre, and didn’t expect a comedian to make a joke about the people in front of him and what they chose to wear to the Oscars - precisely to be noticed and commented upon their appearance.
The only acting going on was in Will Smith’s acceptance speech for best actor as the dad in a movie about women empowerment pretending he was coming from a place of “protecting his wife/property/chattel”, not because it had anything to do with him. As if these empowered independent women “need” a man to defend them, and that Will Smith is that guy.
Props to Chris Rock for being gracious and not taking the bait from Will Smith.
Sam Jackson showed more acting ability about enjoying getting his award offstage and sitting in a side balcony box than the Smiths seated in the front center table.
@chienfou@Ignorant@macromeh@mike808@unksol@werehatrack
Yeah, I thought that too; you see Chris tell the joke, laughing, then a shot of Will laughing too, but Jada’s stoney-faced. So why didn’t she go up and slap Chris, empowered, independent woman that she is?
@chienfou@Ignorant@Kyeh@macromeh@unksol@werehatrack
Chris Rock even backtracked it a bit with a “Hey, that was a softball joke”. If you don’t want the comedian to ad-lib an extemporaneous riff based on the the people sitting in front of him dressed the way they are because they want to be seen and attract attention for how they look, then you shouldn’t throw your weight around to insist that you get the best seats in the house, up front and center, and then get all offended when the comedian comes up and makes a joke about you.
Chris already got from her reaction that she didn’t like being … compared to Demi Moore? She didn’t “need” Will to “defend” her from anything. It’s not like he made a crack about their “open” marriage or other tabloid salaciousness at all. He didn’t make a joke about Sam Jackson not getting a front row table while having a bigger box office than Will Smith.
Apparently, Denzel talked to the two and convinced Will that “letting it go” would give him the publicity for “being the bigger person”. Chris Rock could probably care less about the whole thing in private.
@chienfou@Ignorant@macromeh@mike808@unksol@werehatrack
I suspect that Jada got mad at Will for laughing along, so he had to go prove himself to her. Funny in a way that they silenced his shouts but a large part of the audience, tuning in because of Coda, could probably read his lips perfectly.
@chienfou@Kyeh Will must not have seen the TikTok Jada put out a few days ago where she said, “… I don’t give two craps what people feel about this bald head of mine. Cuz guess what? I love it.”
@chienfou@Ignorant
Hmmm! And she looks good, really.
Maybe she’s still mad at Chris from a different joke he evidently made in 2016:
“Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna’s panties. I wasn’t invited.”
But she should dole out her own slaps, then.
Exactly. And even making a joke where the premise is that Jada got the part reprising a role made famous by Demi Moore, who is no slouch actress herself. Is the joke that Demi Moore is a bad actress and Jada would do a worse job reprising the role? I don’t think so. If anything, it is a joke at Demi Moore’s expense, not JPS.
From Wikipedia: Demi Moore has received 25 award nominations across film and TV, winning 6. The nominations include Critics’ Choice, People’s Choice, MTV, Directors Guild, Golden Globes, Primetime Emmy and SAG awards. One of those 6 awards was the “Golden Raspberry” for “Worst Actress” in G.I.Jane (1996). A joke that has been over 25 years in the making… too soon?
IMO, all JPS needed to do was shake her head and lip-sync “Not cool” for Chris Rock to get the message. I’m certain he’s the kind of comedian that would have apologized backstage at the after-party to her in person if she truly felt slighted - and maybe she could apologize to him about her bullshit public post on on TikTok about not caring about the thing she’s clearly caring about.
WS and JPS come off to me as two entitled people feeling full of themselves in public. And good on Chris Rock for being a total DGAF GigaChad.
Yep, that looks pretty high definition.
@blaineg I was thinking Home Definition or High Depot.
@blaineg @yakkoTDI Yeah, Handy Dan has been out of business for decades.
Is it weird that i know you mean the home Depot halloween collection and your probably referencing their skeleton visavia the can’t buy bit
@unksol You probably remember it from discussions that have been on here before about, I think it maybe was, skeletons at halloween they sold.
@unksol
nope, vis-à-vis knowing the reference, that is very à propos
@chienfou @unksol
We await pensively, the denouement.
@chienfou @mike808 oh I know I know it from hearing you all and I also know I was butchering vis-a-vis. Not sure what happened there although I was never going to use the accent marks
@unksol
no harm, just me exercising my smartassery…
@chienfou @unksol
No offense taken. It’s not like you told a Jada Pinkett Smith joke…
@chienfou @mike808 @unksol What’s a Jada Pinkett Smith joke?

If i remember correctly Jada has Alopecia… I think that was the trigger here once Will realized the reference.
@chienfou @Ignorant @macromeh @mike808 @unksol @werehatrack
It was still weird that he had to “defend her honor” in that way.
