Nerd Challenge - the Bud Red Light
5Hello, nerds! I have another challenge for you.
Check out www.budredlights.com.
Cool, right?! Except WTF $160! That's crap. Which of you nerds has the savvy to build something like this with a Rasberry Pi and some fly coding skills? I bet y'all can put something like this together for $50. Anyway, not only will I buy whatever you make that does this (and looks halfway cool), I'll send you thank you beers. Because, beer.
Oh, it can't say 'Budweiser' on it.

let us consult the mehcronomicon.
"For he that cannot copy and paste a link correctly, let his coffee always be cold and his beer be blazing hot. So say we all."
correct link: http://www.budredlights.com/
ETA: thanks to whoever fixed the link. now my post makes no sense. but, the mehcronomicon refuses to be deleted. originally posted link: www.budredlight.com
Fixed the link in the OP. That thing is awesome, but I foresee two issues:
1) Delays in the broadcast/wifi signal to the light. It would suck if the light started a few seconds after the goal, but even worse if the light knew about a goal before your tv showed it.
2) Watching a movie or TV and then someone scores a goal and you're frightened awake by a klaxon and flashing red lights. Would be a good immersive (no pun intended) experience during submarine movies though...
The ESPN Channel on IFTTT doesn't seem to support individual goals. Any ideas for the data source?
The light is not really that hard. The app behind it is the tricky part, although you can probably use Google to get your information instead. And if you do that you can probably just use a raspberry pi and skip the app requirement altogether.
Ok I met my goal, where do I go to send a signal to all these goal lights?
