Need to justify home brewing of beer? Read on... (grin)
4In Belgium, apparently one of the countries that makes the best beer, they are using brewing beer as a way to increase students’ biochemistry skills. Hmm… I wonder do they get to drink the results in lab class or take them home to drink later. I have had students come to 8am classes drunk as they had never left the bar that night and came straight to class from the bar, but haven’t had them drinking in class .
So if someone complains about you making your own beer just tell them that you are doing so because it will help you become better in biochemistry. If you have a kid tell that person (who is complaining) that you plan to brew to increase your kid’s interest in biochemistry - aka a STEM subject. Oh wait. Someone might find a problem that beer is involved with a minor. Better not add that.
Proof you can offer anyone who complains about that excuse for making your own beer at home:

I knew it was time to brush up on my biochemistry skills.
They make great beer in Belgium! It goes well with those fried potatoes they invented…
Kind of worked in reverse for me. I have been home brewing for almost 30 years. My son was never really interested (eew! what’s that smell?). Now he has a degree in bio-engineering and is working for big pharma and he has gone all-in on home brewing - beer, cider, mead, etc. He has had some pretty tasty results and he can describe the process in minute detail down to the atomic level.
@macromeh You must feel vindicated!
@Kyeh It’s nice to share a common interest/hobby. I’ve never been very interested in video games and neither of us pay much attention to sports. But I bought the HW and helped him turn his former dorm fridge into a kegerator.
