Need printer opinions
0I know printers were talked about not too long ago but I can’t find them, and basically just need opinions. My HP color laserjet CP1518ni printer is 5 years old. It’s suddenly using way too much toner, especially the color ones. In five years it’s printed 175,904 pages so I’ve certainly got my money’s worth out of it. Considering the history, do you think I should buy a refurbished printer (same model) or go ahead and buy a new one? This model’s no longer available.

If it served your needs well, the same model might be good. Newer printers are probably faster and maybe more power efficient, though, so I’d do some homework. The m277 series (I think?) are very small and pretty quiet, but the toner is a little spendy.
In favor of the old printer is the fact that they don’t make em like they used to. I had clients who still trucked along with LaserJet 4s because they are damn near indestructible if you can put up with the print speed. I think HP definitely engineers failure into its later models so they don’t last forever. This model comes well after that change, though, but you can still expect a few years out of a refurb.
I was this close to buying the Dell printer from last month’s deals thread but I slept on it too long and the price went up from $139 to $179. I was interested in it because aftermarket toner cartridges are available at $50 a set or so.
So i checked, and the Dell e525w is now lower at $129. http://staples.com/Dell-E525W-Color-Laser-All-in-One-Printer-New/product_1667711
An even more intriguing deal if you do not need to scan is the Dell c1760nw for $85. Toner cartridges with the same page yield as the ones for the e525w (2k black, 1.4k color) are only $25 for a whole set at Amazon.
