@kjady I used to have a couple pairs of a knock off brand of toe shoes…got them either here on meh, or from woot back in the day… they had Toe socks to go with the shoes, I felt weird without socks…
@earlyre My feet are way too fat for the toe socks. Besides the reason I wear the ugly shoes is the ground feel, literally like walking around barefoot. I don’t like the extra cushion, minimal as it is.
@earl_danger Yeah I had an apartment like that. No drawers in the kitchen either. The man turning the 6 car garage into 3 apartments never, apparently, asked anyone who cooks why we might like at least a silverwear drawer over a huge wine rack. I said something to him and the final apartment had some drawers. He told me he asked his wife what she thought and she told him he was a dumb ass not to put drawers in; that if he actually cooked he’d realize that drawers are useful for stuff you need.
Organized disaster. I buy a crap-ton of the same socks and just dump them in the drawer out of the dryer. Yank any two at random out when I need socks.
@mitzoe For many years, this was my tactic as well. It’s definitely low-stress, and particularly great if your intent is to conceal the fact that you really don’t give a damn.
Things changed for me. I like what’s in my sock drawer now.
My sock drawer used to be extremely monochrome; many identical black or dark grey socks so that any random pair matched. This is no longer the case. I actually like what’s in my sock drawer these days. (And none of it is “no-show” or “ankle”; I buy and wear nothing shorter than crew length.)
@blaineg@werehatrack Nice if you can do the FIFO. I am more LIFO where the recent clean stuff that came out of the laundry tends to be where I go “shopping” for what I need to put on at the moment. And often it’s just early morning and I’m cold and want a long-sleeve-shirt or sweater and socks. (don’t ask about the underwear don’t know how long those have been on…) But at least I try to pick from the clean laundry pile.
I am one of those that doesn’t organize clothes in ‘drawers’. My closet has several tubs/basins that hold underwear, regular socks, no-show socks, athletic socks bandanas, etc. on the shelves, everything else is hung on hangers, except my swim trunks etc.
@chienfou I did something similar. Found some woven baskets, one is like a jute/sisal brown kind, and some are a white cotton rope. My plan was to toss things like socks into them, and have one for more Summery and another for longer/wool/Wintery, though I haven’t really kept that up. Needless to say the whole matching thing went out long ago but I do try to match at least in length and general style. Summer sandal/shorts time-of-year is harder 'cause then it’s obvious that you don’t give a damn anymore. But sometimes that was the image I wanted to convey so maybe it all works out.
It is darn near empty.
@yakkoTDI I told you to stop using them to line your trunk.
For one, it’s too small so I have to transition seasonally and that’s just a disaster when temperatures swing 30° in the same week.
I don’t wear socks. I wear Vibram Fivefinger shoes and while hideous I refuse to wear uncomfortable shoes.

I have two sock areas, one for the ankle s oks & another for long calf high one- for the colder months or formal stuff.
@mycya4me, I have one for regular socks and one for running socks.
/giphy we don’t need no stinking socksies
@Cerridwyn Then wash them between wearings.
Somewhere between very organized & a total disaster area. I mean, that’s quite the spectrum.
@ircon96 same
Non-existent. I have a shelf in a wardrobe for socks. My furnished apartment does not have a single drawer in it for some reason. Very odd.

@Chronicle Disaster Area is so loud that nobody cares about their sock drawers.

@werehatrack
So no socks when you are wearing shorts and tennis/hiking shoes?
@chienfou Crew or higher, and anybody who snickers goes in Yakko’s trunk.
@werehatrack
fashion maverick!
@chienfou @werehatrack Gigi Hadid would approve …
A disaster area, but on purpose. I’ve got better (or at least more interesting) things to do than worry about my sock drawer.
My only concession to organization is I move the old stuff to the front, and put the freshly washed stuff at the back.
@blaineg FIFO is much better than GIGO.
