My hair care is more along the lines of beard care. I get my hair cut every couple weeks, and was thinking about being better to it, but I don’t really care.
My beard, on the other hand, is my favorite. I have a beard shampoo and conditioner, and I have beard oil and cream, which are fantastic. I want to get a wax to help me shape it some, because I think I could have a lot of fun with it.
A friend found a grey hair in there too! That makes me so happy.
Wash, rinse, condition, put in clip on top of head, finish washing the rest of me, remove clip, rinse hair with warm water, gradually turning down the heat, then kind of blot dry.
Just let it air dry a bit before using a wide tooth comb to comb it out.
Then, it’s a ponytail, a bun on the top of the head, braid or maybe just pull the front back in a clip. Not very exciting. I know it looks blonde in the picture, a lot of the color is, as my dad used to say about his, platinum. lol
I brush and rub my hare every night, a bath about once a week, clean the cage every couple of days, and keep it supplied with lots of lettuce and hare chow. Oh, and clean the ears, very important in a hare. My head I keep shaved. Take that hair!
Curly. So I am going to take this opportunity to tell my sad story (routine).
Thankfully, I only do my full routine about once a week because I only use shampoo once a week. But I wash and condition up-side-down in cold water. I use the conditioner to comb through with my fingers as I rinse. Then scrunch out the water and carefully press my wet hair against my head with a bandana (no towel!).
After my shower, I will flip my head over and switch to a dry bandana. (If I’m using styling products, sprays go in when I switch bandanas. Gels go in before the first bandana.) I leave my hair in the bandana until it is barely wet and remove the bandana in that same bent-over, up-side-down position that my back is now beginning to scream about.
Then I let my hair run the show from there, unless it decides to be too weird. It’s just a lot of tears and frustration if I fight with my hair. In fact, this whole routine is about submitting to the will of my naturally curly hair.
I sleep in a satin sleep cap and use different sprays to revive my hair throughout the week. Sometimes I condition mid-week and do all of those steps again. I usually just use a shower cap and dry shampoo. (And, of course, I have to be careful about the ingredients in all of my hair products, avoiding sulfates and other evils.)
So… it’s not too bad. But the cold water is annoying during the winter. And the up-side-down thing is annoying when I have the wrong kind of headache. And my back hates everything.
I’m curious to hear any other curly routines. We have whole websites and forums for this stuff because sometimes you need a community to help you navigate and survive life with curly hair. Some of them are like weird religious cults. But the survey is the only invitation I need, here. Let’s commiserate!
