Well… my hair is (currently) silver and purple… it is usually some complex combination of un-natural hair colors… which does require professional coloring … and i use fancy shampoo/conditioner to make it longer between expensive salon visits. But other than that… it is wash, comb in conditioner, rinse… and air dry. Twist up into a clip if i am at the archery range or in karate class. … so … moderate? Minimal?
My hair ranges wildly from “lowest setting on the clippers before I feel like I am being scalped” to “everyone’s been telling me I need a haircut for three months, guess I’ll grab the clippers,” so, the hair care level adjusts accordingly.
I do spend some time/money on my beard, but I am mostly bald so the razers I bought on here a while ago are all I need for “hair care” I’ll need for a few years.
My hair is to my tailbone again which makes people think it takes a lot of care, but it doesn’t. Wash it every four days or so. Shampoo, wash my body while that sits a minute, rinse, conditioner and then shave my legs and scrub my feet while that works. Rinse. Let it dry naturally before I brush it and any tangles fall right out. Putting it up for work takes less than a minute.
I’ve thought about bleaching it so I could get the vibrant hair colors I want, but the thought of adding more work to my routine is a deterrent.
@f00l@RiotDemon I did just the tips about a week ago; damaging to the bits that were bleached only, and since they’re at the ends, easy to just lop it off if need be. And a fun effect (blue dye over the bleached bits). The only really bad part of the whole thing is that the blue dye bleeds like crazy–though I’ve found that cool water for washing my hair helps a lot. Otherwise, it’s not requiring much in the way of extra maintenance–in fact, per my hairstylist’s suggestion, I’m actually washing my hair less now (to keep the blue longer). But it’s still just shampoo, rinse, conditioner, let it sit, rinse, let my hair dry, run a brush through it. That’s as complex as I’m willing to get.
As a Leo, I am required to maintain hair color and style of the utmost proper order. As of right now, my hair is very long and a beautiful dark auburn. I use very bougie shampoo, conditioner, styling cream, and dry shampoo for those in between washings.
I personally own several of these wet brushes already (I use one in the shower to comb my conditioner through and then to comb it again after rinsing to cut down on tangles) so I am going to pass on this deal.
I use a wide tooth comb or a brush like those on sale today to untangle it, wash it in the shower (I do not wash it every day, that dries it out), rinse out the shampoo, then put the conditioner in, put it on my head in a clip and finish washing me, then rinse, slowly turning the hot water down so the rinse gets cold.
I blot it dry with a towel (no heat), let it dry a little before combing it out. Usually have another towel around my shoulders to keep my shirt dry. When it’s try, it gets twisted into a bun and some sort of band wrapped around that.
That’s it. Sometimes I’ll braid it, but because of the length, I keep it in a bun of sorts. And sometimes I do the ponytail thing.
If I don’t, hair gets everywhere. Anything that I have to bend over for (litter boxes, feeding the cats), hair drags on the floor. Cooking, doing dishes, making the bed… the only time I wear it loose is when we go out. And if we’re going out to eat, I tie it in a knot behind my head. Just easier to keep it out of the way.
My husband trims a couple inches off of it a few times a year, uses one of the Creaclips to keep the line straight.
I just read the other entries. Interesting that the long hairs don’t really do a lot with their hair.
When I kept really long hair it required not much care. Not much you can do with it other than keep it clean, conditioned and trimmed. Then, wear it down or twist it up in a clip. Too long to curl or anything. I finally cut it about 2 yrs ago and now it takes some work and $$.
My hair won’t grow past mid back without breaking, so I’m a little jealous of those who can grow their hair long. My hair care is serious, hair color, special shampoo and conditioner, etc. It’s arm pit length, but I hate going to the salon, so it grows long sometimes. Have dry shampoo for in between days. I have a wide toothed comb for my wet hair, so these are wasted on me.
@Fuzzalini I had the same problem until I quit all heat and color. Ma Nature has been kind to me in my dotage and it’s a lovely blend of light brown and white. Or, as my father called it “platinum”. lol Looks awesome in a braid.
@lisaviolet You’re fortunate. I discovered years ago that I am substantially prettier with my hair down. With long hair, you are generally wearing it up, as others have mentioned. And my hair looks like crap if I don’t blow it dry, even just the last 5 minutes. The heat smooths the cuticle or something.
Adjusting for the fact I’m a guy, I’ll submit Moderate.
I get a haircut at an actual salon every month or so. I use high-end shampoos and conditioners. My haircut requires a small amount of product to look its best, though letting it air dry after a shower is fine most days.
When I have a beard (during the winter), I trim stray hairs almost daily and use beard cream about once a week. I go full clippers/shaping every ten days or so or when I’m going out in a context where I need to look good.
I regularly get compliments on both, so I figure I’m doing something right.
When my hair gets long enough that I actually have to think about it, I buzz it down to stubble. It gets washed with bar soap regardless of length. I’m gonna call that nonexistent.
Amusingly, the amount of hair on my head has remained more or less constant over the last fifteen years, but the distribution has changed dramatically. I seem to get more beard coverage as I get thinner on top.
I own a comb
@awk
I own a rubber band.
@awk I don’t need a comb. Wash and rub some goop in and I’m done - thank FSM for very short hair.

@inanna
That’s moderate. Minimal is shampoo and comb.
@inanna I guess its all relative. That sounds like “serious” to me, but only because “extra super-duper serious” wasn’t an option.
@inanna Sorry, if you’re paying someone to color your hair and use special shampoo and conditioner, that’s serious.

@simplersimon literally me also
Are you asking on the head or …
@hchavers
On the face, right?
@DVDBZN I’m Harry, but aren’t we all?

@heartny story of my life
My level of hair care is:
Meh.
It’s more of a hair I don’t care.
@lazyideas - I care that I HAVE hair.
On a scale of 1-10; a four
To a dude; that’s like 11
I have no need for hair care.
@cranky1950
You just pull what’s left of it out, being cranky, as you are?
I’m bald. Haven’t had a bad hair day in 14 years.
I spend less time on my scalp hair than on my facial hair.

@RiotDemon
Also that bleaching is bad for the hair. Hope you resist.

My hair is past my waist, so I’ll say “minimal”.
