My friends are making masks
14And distributing them. I want to help.
I’m making straps with my 3D printer to send to my friends; one of them was heavily involved in Special Olympics and cut back on her participation when her daughter passed away and now it looks like she’s getting back into the community. When I showed the ones I’d made for us, she said those look like a good idea for the kids and adults who don’t like things on their ears.
And, so far, it is NOT going well.
But I’ll keep working at it until I get it right.

What’s wrong?
@RiotDemon I don’t want to talk about it. lol…
Gonna change out that new metal extruder to a newer metal extruder that has a metal part for the bowden tube to go into, not the plastic one. That little blue clamp clip keeps popping off of it and if I had an extra, I’d punch the SOB in the face. If it had a face.
I think I can change out the extruder with my eyes closed now.
I tried printing stacking straps and it got to three an there were strings all over the place. I cancelled the print and when I pulled it off, I had no idea how to split them apart. The print broke in my hands when I tried.
Then I looked at other prints on thingiverse so I wouldn’t have to print one at a time and some of those are printed STRAIGHT UP AND DOWN!
Nope, nope, nope.
Then I found some flat ones, but they’re too big for my printer and I’m clueless on how to get rid of a couple of them so they’d fit.
And I don’t want to talk about it.
@lisaviolet The clip keeps coming off, but is the tube actually coming out? If it is, it’s not pushed in far enough.
@RiotDemon No, the tube is staying in place, but that clip flies off and I don’t think that it should and it just won’t listen to me and I don’t dare put gorilla glue on it or I’ll be sorry, I just know I will.
@lisaviolet it’s probably just a faulty clip. I wouldn’t necessarily buy a new extruder because of that. You can take a small zip tie and put it in place of that clip.
@lisaviolet Just don’t pull it so tight that you can’t remove it if necessary in the future.
@RiotDemon I have zip ties (I also have a new extruder). I’ll try the zip tie first.
@lisaviolet I mean, is it functioning properly?
@RiotDemon When the clip is on, it does. But there was that mess with the stacking straps (see my other post that I was still editing when you responded so damned quickly). That’s when I noticed the clip was missing.
But as long as the clip was there, it was functioning properly.
@lisaviolet ah, oopsie! I missed your edit.
Grab a single strap and duplicate it in Cura so you can have a few on the build plate.
@RiotDemon Cool! I didn’t know I could do that.
Thanks!

@lisaviolet how’d that work for you? I had those saved but my printer came with a few so I never needed them and a lot of people suggested the cable ties instead.
@RiotDemon I haven’t made it yet, I just found it today.
I made five masks this morning, then it all went to hell. Dumbshit problems, mostly, but it’s working now. I got cocky, thought I had leveling down.
Never get cocky. You’re just asking for trouble.
Off to give the blind cat subQ fluids.
I made some straps! There are fifty-nine in this pile.
Sending them out tomorrow.
@lisaviolet Wow! Those look great --you are a real inspiration
@cf1 Thanks. The mask makers are the ones doing all the work. I just set the machine and let it do its thing.
