My favorite coffee place got evicted
8/image cry
They’ve been there for 10 years. And make the best coffee in the Inland Empire IMHO
They have more stores, but this is the original and they don’t make a huge profit.
Want to help the staff get paid while they build out a new place

Evicted?
/image you keep using that word
@stinks
I would just like to point out… that with your icon in front of your name, your username looks like ‘shit stinks’.
/giphy Stinky butt
@hems79 I KNOW! For about a split second, I thought maybe they’d made a badge just for me.
Then I found out it was just Carly Simon singing to me.
Why is there always one grump in the comments of these things?
@RiotDemon He likes the shit emoji, I guess.
@lisaviolet @RiotDemon Oh, come on. If a coffee shop really got evicted, that’d be interesting. I actually wanted to see how the heck that happened.
Click bait!
/giphy why so serious
@lisaviolet @RiotDemon @stinks
It really actually did.
Landlord is one of those absentee ones. They’ve tried to reach him for a long time for lease renewal and then all of a sudden they got told be out the end of the month.
He’s looking to raise money to keep his people employeed while he gets a new place and gets it going
So yes, it’s real

@lisaviolet @RiotDemon @stinks
And yes, that’s really the place
@Cerridwyn @lisaviolet @RiotDemon Do people really think all businesses either own their property or lease from the most scrupulous of landlords? I’ve seen this happen far too many times.
@Cerridwyn I feel your pain here. Coffee shops are so important in their own way. I live thirty seconds from one, but walk 2 miles to a ridiculously queer one instead because it’s just… home. I would be devastated if that place disappeared.
@brhfl @lisaviolet @RiotDemon
I’m sure some do. Sadly, I know someone who does about a block away from where they are, but he doesn’t have a vacancy. Finding someplace downtown won’t be horribly hard, but finding a good place, that will be hard.
These guys are great. Really good at what they do and good to their employees.
Oops. Bizarre. That really is too bad.
Looks like they might’ve known, but depends on who you ask. What an odd response from the owner, though:
Did they not pay rent? You know, if you’re a building owner, who cares who’s in there, give or take, as long as they’re paying and behaving. And then they want another coffee house?
Something strange is afoot.
Welp, that stinks. I keep waiting for my favorite spot to get closed. Everything around them’s been torn down and rebuilt with boring multi-floor buildings, mostly apartments.
@stinks I hope you have better luck in yours staying put.
@stinks I’m confused and curious as to why you had a hard time believing that a coffee shop could be evicted.
@DennisG2014 This feels like TMI, but…
I thought it was true, came here fully ready to jump on the outraged train, didn’t see anything evict-y in the description here, assumed this was a “lost my lease” situation instead, felt I’d been unintentionally click baited bc of misuse of “evicted”, commented (jokingly), then was convinced to actually rtfa which, well, after some googling too, does make it sound like something strange is afoot.
TL;DR - if your title says evicted but your post doesn’t, I may jump to conclusions.
/image I call it a jump to conclusions mat
@stinks Ok, thanks.
I get that there’s a difference between the legal action of eviction and just losing one’s lease and being forced to leave - and I can be very pedantic at times - but I’m kind of ok with people using the term “evicted” just for dramatic effect unless it’s in a discussion of legal obligations and such.
I mean, some people use it casually to mean “suddenly kicked out of the place I’ve been renting” when they haven’t been literally evicted and I have no qualms with that in casual conversation.
they used the term not me
tl:dr
landlord originally had a coffee place there
it didn’t do well
sold it to Austin and his mom
they’ve done incredibly well - well enough they have had an impact on the city and the downtown area
he wants it back
so he can do a coffee shop again thinking he’ll steel Austin’s customers
LOL - there is a reason he didn’t do so well
they’ll have another place, apparently will sign lease as soon as next week
just want to keep their employees paid during the build out
An awesomely good barista that you have trained to do it your way, is hard to come by
if you’re ever in the IE, find them for one of the best cups of coffee you can imagine.
