My phone “camera roll” consists of pictures and videos of things, people, or events that I wanted pictures or videos of, but did not have either of my DSLRs or other dedicated cameras with me.
Gone… Was on a micro sd that got torqued (don’t ask) and I’d been having issues with the cloud backup so it hasn’t saved anything for several months and I just haven’t had the time to figure it out
The single biggest categories over the years are my kids, my cats, a few vacations, and BOC/Fuku/Fuko/IRK/Mehxchange pix. After these it is rather random.
I have pics of bottle of wine we liked at a restaurant to by at the store as well. It’s easier than trying to get the right name spelling etc. Just go n the wine store, and pull up the pic, an say “I’m looking for this…”
My camera roll on my phone is non-existent since I have a phone with a digital camera. (Haven’t used film since my 35mm SLRs)
My camera role on the other hand is primarily snapshots of family and things I want to remember to check out later (product labels, parking spot numbers, timetables for transportation, hours worked to check against my paystub etc.)
@chienfou On an iPhone, the default album in the Photos app for pictures taken with the phone is called “Camera Roll”.
Obviously you were speaking tongue-in-cheek and knew what the question meant, but I did not know if you realized that the terminology was actually correct.
@DrWorm well then, since I have an Android phone (and know nothing about the Apple nomenclature norms…) I guess I should have just shut the hell up since I had no part in that poll (or maybe pole?)
(couldn’t find a good tongue-in-cheek emoji)
@DrWorm That’s why I use Classic Shell (now re-branded Open Shell) It just says “Pictures”
The Win10 OS is pretty good, but it seems much more designed for social media friendliness and less for actual use as a computer. This way I can still get it to use the same structure I like. Much like a touch screen is not really the ideal surface to use to edit a picture or video.
Primarily pictures of my awesome kids, my wife, and the cool places we go. The rest is things I need to remember, awesome Pokemon from the PoGo universe, or the scores of my fantasy football games when I crush my friends (strangely I always lose the ones when I lose ).
If we are speaking FILM, my rolls are full of landscapes and wildlife. Mountain scapes, forests, rolling hills, maybe historic buildings or old interesting barns. These things make me happy.
If we are discussing my phone it could be anything from an odd situation at Wal-Mart to a picture of my niece. There are currently lots of stanley cup pics that need to be dealt with!
The common theme is there are very few pictures of me, but rather people, places or things that make me smile.
My 20yr ild thinks im weird cuz i only hav 3 pics in my Gallery. My Dalmatian, My Black Lab and my Black Cat!! Everyone else i kno had well over 100 pics. Why keep so many?? I dont get it!
Whoa, @rockblossom THAT’S IT!!! Thanks! I’m surprised it’s a nymph since it was so large. Makes sense because I have seen the full grown version around here as well.
@chienfou how’d you post the pic? I tried to copy and paste, but it wouldn’t post my pic, which is why I did the share link. It’s a wicked looking thing! I’d have been too scared to touch it.
@Gypsigirl213 you have to either upload it to imgur etc. and link it or you can upload it from your computer by clicking the upload button then selecting the image file to upload. Benefit of that is it stays linked, where often the other sites end up hosting broken links…
As for the ‘critter’. I found it chewing up a small (15inch) pecan sapling growing next to where I park my car. I did a search for “dragon caterpillar” on the Interweb and found out it was totally benign, just crazy scary looking. I took it up with me to the grandkids in N’ville 2 years ago when we went up to watch the solar eclipse. They weren’t too keen on holding it tho!!
Mostly random snapshots of things I think friends will find funny or interesting. A few of them eventually make it to some form of social media.
If I’m hiking or traveling and want stuff to put on my wall, I take my DSLR. I don’t have dogs/kids/an SO/etc., so none of that. The only picture of food is a pork belly taco that is literally just a slab of pork belly with BBQ sauce and picked onions in a tortilla.
Mostly pictures of my kids.
Sometimes things I need to remember though.
The kids usually make me happy. Soooo things that make me happy?
What were we talking about? Let me check my phone. Yeah, Meh is really phoning it in lately, and I should know.
Inflatable animal pooltoys and trains! Probably nobody is surprised.
@PooltoyWolf Do you have any inflatable pool-toy trains? Pictures or it didn’t happen…
@shahnm I don’t, actually! Mostly inflatable canines, like wolves.
@PooltoyWolf @shahnm oddly…ummmmm…not surprised
@PooltoyWolf @shahnm @ybmuG Trains such as the GE C30-7
@shahnm @ybmuG I’m sometimes predictable lol
@shahnm @therealjrn @ybmuG That’s not even the best one! Here’s Fenris as engineer on the GA 1026:
I had to check. …is about 50/50 Molly, my dox mix and white washed out accidental exposures.
I take pictures of things to remember them. Now only if I can remember where I set my phone down.
/giphy Getting old sucks.
Okay, this giphy has nothing to do with getting old but I’m keeping it!!!
@Mehrocco_Mole
ಠ_ಠ
@Mehrocco_Mole And they said sucking your thumb is a bad habit…
@Mehrocco_Mole Um…what was the question?
My phone “camera roll” consists of pictures and videos of things, people, or events that I wanted pictures or videos of, but did not have either of my DSLRs or other dedicated cameras with me.
Dick pics.
No, really, I have lots of pics of my neighbor Richard.
@ThatsHeadly But you’re totally not stalking him…
@shahnm now, don’t go making assumptions before all the facts are in…
@ThatsHeadly
/image restraining order
Roughly equal parts of about a third of the above.
Gone… Was on a micro sd that got torqued (don’t ask) and I’d been having issues with the cloud backup so it hasn’t saved anything for several months and I just haven’t had the time to figure it out
@ybmuG Just find a 12 year-old to do it for you.
Four very awesome grandchildren take up at least 80% of my memory (phone, disk, brain) and the rest is about equally divided in the other categories.
OWLS! TOWELS! JOWLS! AWESOME!
I have literally thousands of memes or other fully images saved to my phone. I’m slowly releasing them back to the internet.
Mine is mostly pictures and videos of concerts. Also pix of my niece and nephew.
The single biggest categories over the years are my kids, my cats, a few vacations, and BOC/Fuku/Fuko/IRK/Mehxchange pix. After these it is rather random.
Random crap

All of the above. Except selfies. Fuck those

@chienfou Windows 10 actually uses a “camera roll” folder also as the default location for photos / video recorded with the device.
@DrWorm That’s why I use Classic Shell (now re-branded Open Shell) It just says “Pictures”

POPSOCKETS! SPROCKETS! DAVY CROCKETT! AWESOME!

food. (so i guess that falls under “something that makes me happy” but i felt compelled to be more specific.)
My 20yr ild thinks im weird cuz i only hav 3 pics in my Gallery. My Dalmatian, My Black Lab and my Black Cat!! Everyone else i kno had well over 100 pics. Why keep so many?? I dont get it!
Art, basically. The art of photography.
Bugs. I have a lens kits already and use the macro lens to photograph unusual and beautiful bugs. For example:

Anyone know what this is? It’s big, like the size of my thumb.
@Gypsigirl213 GIS says it’s a Black Widow. But I don’t see any red.
@Gypsigirl213 @therealjrn GIS is FOS on that one!
@therealjrn Kinda hard to be a black widow when it’s not even a spider.
@Gypsigirl213 @therealjrn It’s not a black widow, as it’s not a spider. Only has six legs. That’s an odd one, does not easily key out.
@Gypsigirl213 Leaf-footed bug nymph
@Gypsigirl213 I DO however know what THIS ONE is:
@Gypsigirl213 @rockblossom Good ID! I never thought to check for a nymph. The adult is quite different …
@Gypsigirl213 @rockblossom @stolicat And a real PITA in the garden…
@chienfou @Gypsigirl213 @rockblossom @stolicat @msklzannie
Look, I said I didn’t think so. That was all GIS and the scapegoat’s fault y’all.
@nolrak is the one sending 30-50 feral hogs into your bed at night.
@chienfou
Whoa, @rockblossom THAT’S IT!!! Thanks! I’m surprised it’s a nymph since it was so large. Makes sense because I have seen the full grown version around here as well.
@Gypsigirl213 looks a lot scarier than it is dangerous. Found it in the yard a couple of years ago…eating a pecan tree sapling…
@chienfou how’d you post the pic? I tried to copy and paste, but it wouldn’t post my pic, which is why I did the share link. It’s a wicked looking thing! I’d have been too scared to touch it.

Mostly my big, goofy dog and my tiny one-eye black kitty
Mostly screenshots. Or bugs, or injuries. Sometimes informational things that I wanted to refer back to later in the day. Or photos of the TV.
@InnocuousFarmer all great uses!
